Cali and Diego are a couple days away from being 5 months old. I've caught them twice now trying to get into position for loving!! I just called the vet and moved up the spay/neuter to Wednesday this week, rather than Feb 20 that I had previously booked.
Is it normal or unusual for them to be active this early? Are they ready?

UhOh!!! Hopefully it isn't what you think. I've heard of females going into heat as early as 5 months but I would think that you'd know if Cali was in heat. She's be making loud meowing noises and rubbing her body all over everything. She'd also be very very friendly to everyone. I'm not sure when males are sexually mature but I always thought that they matured a bit slower than the females.
I know in the past I've caught my cats doing this and they're all spayed and neutered. I found out that it's just one cats way of acting dominant over the other one. Maybe that's all it is. Good luck.:)

Oh five months, definitely. I've had cats go into heat well before the six month mark before. My sister's cat went into heat around 3 or 4 months (I can't remember, but I was very surprised!). She is obviously fixed now, much earlier than my parents had planned on, but it does happen. :)

Yep, you've confirmed it, Cali is in heat, at just under 5 months of age.
