Skin Problem

I have a seven year old yorkie. She is a wonderful pet. She has a skin
problem. I have taken her to 4 different vets. They all say she has an allergy.
No one has helped her. Every thing that I have read dogs do not sweat.
She does. You can be holding her and all of a sudden she will get very hot
and wet all over. This spell doesn't last but a minute or two then she gets
cold. She will do this 5 or 6 times a day. Then she starts scratching. Then
she get a hot spot. Has anyone every come in contact with something like this. Does anyone know what it is. I told her last vet I thought that it
was a harmone problem. He didn't pay me any attention. I am now trying to find another vet to take her to. I have done everything they have suggested
and nothing has worked. She has short hair but she is beginning to lose it.
Please help. If anyone knows anything I can do please tell me.

Is she spayed yet? What kind of food does she eat now? I believe most
dog allergies are food based. I do think your vet should be doing more tests
to pin down the cause. If they aren't willing to work with you on this, I would
look for a vet that did. Best of luck with your Yorkie. :)

Does sound like a metabolic problem - unless it's predictable N minutes after eating.

The sudden rush of blood to the surface of the skin can literally fry the outer dermal layer, resulting in an instant itching sensation. One can replicate this in humans: Take 1000 mg of niacin and consume a little alcohol along with it. The result will be a hot flash. Wait for it to subside, and then expose previously covered areas of the skin to the air- you will itch and want to scratch severely as dead skin cells are sloughed off.

The loss of hair could be the result of a skin infection as a result of the scratching. Or it may even be plugged into the metabolic problem. Ask the next Vet if they believe Cushings might be a possibility.

Bathing your dog in oatmeal shampoo may help with the itching skin.
