Last week I heard of a shelter in Rushville, IN that had 15 dogs (most of which were 12wks and under) and 1 cat (18 lbs) that had until 5pm on Saturday. The lady who fosters for me, Jill and I busted our but on crossposts (her part) and phone calls (my part) to get these babies out before E-time.
Since we were going to Indianapolis to drop off Casper and Jet on Saturday anyway, I decided to pull a few, well six to be exact. One of the six was a Beagle, and I was going to transport her to a Foster home (who lives close to me) from The Indiana Hound Rescue.Knowing that six were safe, Jill and I continued to contact people about the remaing 9 pups and 1 large cat. We heard nothing.
We hit the road at 5:30am and it was COLD! It was 1 degree without the windchill. Brutal. Anyway, we dropped Jet of at 7am, left to drop off Casper around 7:45, got there about 10am, left and met the transporter around 11:30 am, who was nice enough to meet us in Indianapolis near Casper's new home. (Jet and Casper's home were 2 hrs apart.)
Upon meeting Jamie, the transporter, we learned that puppy #6, who was a last minute add on to our list, was showing signs of Parvo. Having Pumpkin, the pregnant 10 month old, I could not chance that, so sadly we did not take her. Jamie assured me that the pup would go straight to the vet and not return to the shelter. If the pup had parvo, she would be euthanized the right way, if not, she would contact me to set up another transport to get her. (I have not heard anything yet.) I was also pleased to learn that the shelter received numerous emails and phone calls regarding the 9 dogs and Osama, the 18lb cat...more about him than any other, due to crossposts the received that were originated from our rescue! All were saved by the time we met on Saturday. She took a dog named Mac and will find him a home herself, Osama was adopted! All the others were taken by various rescues! It is so awesome to know that I helped the City Of Rushville Animal Shelter have a NO KILL weekend!
So, on to who we have!
Lou Lou, 10 month old Beagle Female. I transported her later on Saturday to her foster home. They called me today and said she is doing really good and will go to the vet in the morning.

Luke, he is a 1 1/2 yr old Min Pin...and just plan WONDERFUL! The shelter said he was found as a stray by a lady and she brought him in the next day. She told them she called him Luke and he answered to it. Well, they and We don't believe he was ever a stray! He is house broken and crate trained, knows to sit and loves everything! He was probably HER dog! He is very skinny and needs to be neutered. He humps everything!! But he is a love bug! My cousin, who owns a Dobie and 2 min pins will be fostering him as of tomorrow after his vet apt.

You can see his hips, ribs, and spine. This is not a great picture, but you can see he needs some groceries.

These two girls are Lab/Retriever mix pups, but I am not too sure though. They are being isolated due to them having some sores on their back and chest that resemble Mange. They are scratching a real lot. I gave them flea baths, but saw no fleas, that was when I saw the sores. They go in tomorrow so I will have them do a scraping. They are about 12 wks and SUPER CRAZY!! They were found as strays.

I pray they are all okay and the vet can find out what is wrong with Lexie Lou and Emma...fingers and paws crossed that it is not mange! When we came home yesterday, I flea bathed everybody, gave them a dose of Strongid and started them on Panacur. Miley pooped out a large round worm today, so I know the dewormer are working. They slept very well last night, except for Miley who seems to be a barker. But she does go potty outside!! A big plus. She also has gotten sit down path today...of course only for a treat!! I will update you after the vet tomorrow if I can get still have my sister's laptop.
