Oh gosh a beagle buddy :D :D :D

I have two houndies and they are the BEST.
They are very gentle, lovable, smart, keen, funny, they are quite the snuggle bunnies.

They love people of all ages and they get along great with other dogs and cats.

They are so friendly any dog that comes to our place instantly has two new best friends the hounds get along with any dog of any breed.

I'll show you some pictures of my houndies.

Your dogs are so cute!! WHen I get my dog I'll put a picture so u can see it ;). I have a question, people have told me that beagles were a little bit crazy, you know energetic, is that true????? (that doesn't matter anyways 'cause I used to LOVE taking my yellow lab for a long nice walk) Also..... Cute Cat!!! :D

Beagles can be very very energetic - my Aunt had one whose name was Peppy - and it fit him for his whole life long! They LOVE to run, love to be busy, and then they love to snuggle and be with you. Be sure to take nice long walks - though you'll probably have to walk a little slower - or faster - depending on how good a sniff he's got going! Many beagles are always nose-to-the-ground when walking, just checking out the whole world via the nose!

Like any energetic dog, they aren't a breed that does very well spending 10-12 hours alone every day - they love to do stuff and to be with you!

Peppy would sleep at the door of whichever bedroom at Aunt Bertha's place had a male who had been wearing bluejeans inside it - even if they had just been introduced - surely THIS would be the person who would take him running in the morning, right? :)

My beagles are not that energetic. I take my hounds for two walks a day in the morning and in the evening. We have a wide open 15 acre field and we go out there for about 20-30 min they run and sniff and play fight together. That pretty much takes care of thier energy for the day :D The rest of the day they spend sleeping in the sun or on the bed under the blankets or at my feet or on my lap or ...... :D

They are not barkers, about the only time you hear a beagle bark is if its on the trail of something. Well Copper will bark if Im late with his supper :D but other then that they are a pretty quiet dog. When I first got Hannah I couldn't wait to hear her bark, I wanted to hear that beagle bark so bad. I had to wait 8 days, it wasn't untill she seen her first chipmunk and tracked it up a tree that she started barking :D It was so cute.

Umm what else could I tell ya about the beagle ..

*Health Problems: Some lines can be prone to heart disease, epilepsy, eye and back problems. Also prone to chondroplasia, aka dwarfism (warped front legs, like a Basset's).

*Life Expectancy: About 12-15 years.

*Grooming: The Beagle's smooth short-haired coat is easy to look after. Brush with a firm bristle brush, and bathe with mild soap only when necessary. Dry shampoo occasionally. Be sure to check the ears carefully for signs of infection and keep the nails trimmed. This breed is an average shedder.

I can't wait till you get your beagle, you'll have to take lots and lots of pictures :D

Peppy barked sometimes, but always for a specific reason - to be let in or out, when he was tracking something, sounding an "intruder alert" but the funniest time he would bark is one unique to him. Aunt Bertha was elderly, and most of her contact with friends and family was over the phone. Well, if she said something like "Well, I'll talk to you later" or some other about-to-end-the-conversation phrase, but then remembered one more thing to talk about, Peppy would bark from the time he thought she was going to hang up until she actually did! He heard the signal, he knew it was his turn to have her attention, and she was cheating! :)

He was a great dog! And, as ilovehounds said, some beagles aren't nearly as "barkative" as Peppy was!

I have very fond memories of my Beagle, Daisy, who was my birthday present when I turned 7 years old--she lived until I was 23, just shy of her 16th birthday. She was what the other posters have said: extremely gentle, good with children, scent crazy (Daisy never lifted her nose from the ground on walks, I swear!), cute as a button, and very easygoing. On the other hand, she was also prone to running away, not easily housebroken, and quite independent. She was the only dog in her class to fail obedience TWICE--even the trainer couldn't get her to do anything!

Have some patience when you get your Beagle, but keep him active and enjoy what a sweetheart he'll be! :D

I hope my dog doesn't bark so much!!!!! I like puppy barks but they became a little... boring after a while !!! Yes, I knwe about the health problems (thank god) and I think the beagle coat is similar to the labs coat or not? (I owed a lab once). Karen your aunt is very lucky to have a wonderful dpg like Peppy!!!! :) :) :) :) Thanks for the advice kobieeli, I'll keep that in mind that last thing u said, even though I don't have many pacience!!!!
