I have been working with my vet since last November on my horse he is 9 this year. He had lost some weight and was acting sluggish when I was ridding him. Vet drew blood and checked his stool. The only thing that showed up was he was a little anemic. She told me to try worming him just in case they had misses something, so I did and it didnt help. I took Beau back on Monday to get his teeth floated by one of the other vets in the office and he said that he didnt think it was the teeth causing the problems because they werent that bad and Beau had lost a lot more weight. I left Beau with the vets so they could run some test. They drew blood on Tues. and on Wed. did a fecal, a rectal exam and an ultrasound. The only thing that came back this time was he has some type of internal infection, but nothing to say exactly what it is. So the vets called an equine specialest and he thinks Beau either has cancer or an abscess, I can take Beau to him and he might find it and might not.(told my vets he has spent months testing horses befor finding cancer.) Or I could take him to either Iowa state or Kansas state universities either one is about 5 hours away. I cant afford the specialest or the universities. My vet told me they have done all they are able to do and to bring him home and see if the floating of his teeth helps or not but not to get my hopes up. Its driving me nuts seing him this way and I cant help him. He looks almost as bad as some of the horses that are being siezed on tv :( . I should say he eats everything that is given him and drinks he has never lost his appetite and is the dominant horse. This year hasnt started out very well. :( :(
