View Full Version : Precious April Honey Bear!
Little April Honey Bear, did you know that my love affair with poodles started over 30 years ago with a poodle named Peaches, a little apricot girl such as yourself? :) I confess to having tears in my eyes as I read through your bio. Your story was hard to get through as I learned of the many years of pain and sadness you endured before meeting your special person. Thank you, special person for saving Honey Bear!! No one would ever know it now, looking at the picture of the sweetest little girl you are today, even at the majestic age of 16, sitting under that Christmas tree. :) I am just smitten totally by your precious picture, your loving personality and the beautiful bond that you and your wonderful person share. I can think of nothing more fitting than having you as our very special Dog of the Day and I know that no one will mind if I also add the title of Dog of a Lifetime as you certainly are!! Bless you sweetie. You have totally stolen my heart this morning. http://bestsmileys.com/love1/25.gif

Such a sweet little bear. I'm so happy for her and her family that she found a loving and caring home to live out her years. I just don't understand how anyone can mistreat and neglect these precious little creatures that God sends to us - all they ask for is love.
This little trooper definitely qualifies for Dog of a Lifetime!
Peace to you all and have a great New Year.

You have us all in tears, precious April Honey Bear, and we are honored, truly honored, to have you as our very special, our extra special, Sunday Dog of the Day. :) But as your Mom says, you're so much more than that sweet angel April. You are a Dog of a Lifetime and any dog lover, any caring, sentient being, would be proud beyond words to have had you as their loving, devoted companion and best friend these many years. My heart aches to know that you have lost your sight and hearing, but you pups are so much braver than we humans, and I know that as long as you have your Mom, your family and friends there by your side, you feel their love and comfort with every fiber in your beautiful being. Our hearts break knowing that for too many years you were neglected and abused, but we all give heartfelt thanks to your wonderful Mom for making the second half of your life so very happy, so filled with love.:) I hope you and your family can enjoy a special day today April, celebrating your life, your indomitable spirit, the great joy you have brought to your family's life. Much love, gentle hugs and kisses to you precious one, with hopes that you and your family all, enjoy a peaceful and blessed New Year:) We love you, April Honey Bear:)

Dear, sweet April....what a lovely little dog you are! I am so glad your former owner decided to give you up; that was your lucky day!
Until he died a few months ago, I had a 17 year old poodle mix who was also deaf and blind, so I know well what you are going through. It must be very difficult for you, and for your person, but I'm sure he/she is more than happy to do whatever is necessary to make you happy and comfortable.
I wish you a very happy new year, and wish I could give you a big hug! Do stay well and eat lots of treats today as DOTD!

Thank you so much for telling it like it is. I am a volunteer at a no kill animal shelter in Quebec and am extremely happy that April found a proper home before it was too late. People that use animals to make a living sicken me (and those who do this and neglect the health of their "bread winner", even worse!) . April found her heaven on earth when you saved her and thanks you every day I'm sure. Recently I looked for information online on helping blind dogs as a friend of mine has one - I was fascinated at the different ways of helping them (bell on their collar so you know where they are) etc. Hopefully many others will read April's story and know that blindness and/or deafness is NOT a reason for euthanasia. Patience is the key and their love in return makes it all worthwhile.

Her sister is a part lab/ridgeback who will give her a ride on her back. If I put her sister in the big dog side, she would walk along the gate between them until I would bring her sister into the small dog park with her. They take care of each other.
April is totally blind now, has no teeth at all and can't hear. She barks for food, to go outside and to find me. She bangs into things as she still can't get used to being blind. This poor little thing has been so through so much in her life that she deserves to be "Pet of the Day"! Really, she deserves to be Dog of a Lifetime.
April, you are a total Honey Bear! It sounds like you have been the Dog of a Lifetime for your person! Please bark for her to give you a gentle hug from me. Happy Dog of the Day, sweetie.
