The other day, one of my dogs urinated on my carpet. The smell was absolutely terrible. I cleaned it myself first, but it still stunk. So, I got my EXTREMELY expensive Professional carpet cleaner, and after using it twice, its still there! I've had to close off this room for the past 2 days because of the horrendus smell. What should I do?
Thanks!

Don't bother with carpet cleaner - get to a pet supply store and get "Nature's Miracle" - it is a cleaner that will break down the enzymes causing the smell. Also, make sure you spray enough to get through to the pad underneath the carpet, if there is one.

I second that!
Nature's Miracle is the best!

It even got dried blood out of my carpet!!!
Make sure to soak the area, so it gets down to the padding. Then let it dry on it's own. While it's drying and everything is still wet, it will still smell. Just wait till it's all dry and the smell will be gone!

It really matters how you FIRST clean up the accident.

First, you need to blot the stain before you put anything else on it. Use bath towels, and put them folded to 4 layers on top of the spot. WALK and STAMP on the towel until no more liquid comes up. You may need more than one towel for larger urine spots.

Once you have blotted up as much urine as possible, take the carpet cleaner and POUR it on the urine spot. Pour about as much carpet cleaner as you estimate there was urine that went into the spot. Let it soak in for a moment, so it goes in as far as the urine did. Blot again using the towel method. Do not substitute walking on the towels. This pressure of your weight blots up the most liquid.

Once I blot up the carpet cleaning liquid, I then wet the spot once more with plain water and blot. Blot as much as possible until the spot is as dry as you can get it. Then put a fan on it so it can dry as quickly as possible.

For your spot now, the Nature's Miracle can work very well. I have also had good luck with wetting older spots down again, and using the blotting, carpet cleaner method.

good luck!

you might think about having the urine of that dog check at the vet to make sure no infection, urine stinks anyway but when it is really foul is when I have found that they have an infection. Not trying to freak you out, I apologize if I am, just experience I have had.

I agree with getting the dog checked out by the vet if the urine stinks that badly.

I also agree with clotting up the urine with towels. after that i'd generously sprinkles some baking soda over the spot and use a spray bottle to get that down in the carpet and padding. Blot that up. Then use a generous amount of Smells Begone. (and call up someone i know with a steam cleaner if the puddle was really big.)
