By far the scariest 5 minutes of my life.
We were downtown this evening for a tree lighting ceremony and parade. Jack being the doofus that he is jumped into my arms. After a few seconds he decided he wanted down so he lept out of my arms and <not so> gracefully landed on his side in the grass. Not the first time that's ever happened to him. He got up, shook it off and seemed to be perfectly fine. A couple minutes later I look down to see him hunched over, his front leg tucked under him, head touching the ground. At first I thought his leg was stuck in his harness so I got down to his level, then it was more like he was choking on something. His eyes were dilating, he was as stiff as can be and he couldn't stand. I checked to make sure he was breathing and had a pulse, then I opened his mouth because it honestly looked like he was choking.
I picked him up and started running through the crowd. I called my dad to come pick us up, because I quickly realized there was no way I was going to make it all the way home carrying a 45lb dog.
As soon as we got away from all the people I set him down. He still wasn't able to stand and at this point I couldn't hold back the tears any longer. It brought back flashbacks when my kitten Bed died in my arms a year ago.
And then as sudden as it started it all stopped. It seemed that as soon as my dad pulled up with the car Jack was fine. Jumping, kissing and wagging his tail. My dad didn't believe me that anything had ever happened. He's been acting normal ever since.
Now I think it was a seizure of sorts, but my dad thinks the wind was just knocked out of him when he hit the ground. Whatever it was...it better NEVER happen again. Ever.
