View Full Version : Sassy hates me
Sassy hates being groomed and taking medication. Today, I'm getting ready to leave for the holiday, so I had to give Sassy his pill, trim his toenails, and comb the snarls out of his fur. Now he hates me. Why should I have to be mean to my dear cat??

Would Sassy like a grooming arch (http://www.radiofence.com/cat-toys/cat_arch_groomer.htm)? Might keep the snarls at bay.

My foster Furbee doesn't mind the medicine so much when I dip her pill in that cheesecake filling that they sell in the refrigerated section in the store, lol. She's a big fan of anything creamy and milky, lol.
Maybe Sassy would prefer something like that to mask the flavor of the pill?

Boo HATES grooming of any kind and she gets so full of knots for a sort haired girl. I have quit trying to get them out with the shedding tool but will pull them out as she walks by sometimes. Her's stick up and are short and come right out.
Now Giz, that crazy girl.... is SO use to her heart medication being crushed up with a soft Pounce treat that she now will not eat the treat without her medicine in it! Put the treat down, she sniffs and won't touch it.. Crush the pill up and grind up the treat in it and she eats every crumb...

As it stands, the determining factor is "Do I want paté today at all, or is kibble all I really want?" Although it does help to garnish the paté with a flake or two of Kitty Kaviar.

If this is a pill that you are going to be giving regularly to Sassy it might be worth it to take it to a Compounding Pharmacy. I think they charge around 20.00 or something but they will crush up all the meds and mix it with a yummy chicken or beef suspension and provide you with the proper dosage to give your cat based on the vet's dosage. Then all you'd have to do is use the syringe to squirt a small blob on a plate or just mix it in with wet food if you feed Sassy wet food. It's basically just like gravy. :)

THE LUCKY FOUND ATS DO NOT LIKE BEING PICKED UP AND I HAVE TO WORK AT THIS, PETTING AND HOLDING THEM AS THERE MIGHT BE A TIME WHEN I HAVE TO PICK THEM UP AND PUT THEM INTO CARRIERS. I AM SURE THAT SASSY WILL FORGIVE YOU IF THERE ARE WHISKAS TEMPTATIONS INVOLVED.
AT LEAST THAT JOSEPHS OPINION!!!

It's for his own good, remember that. Last time I trimmed Howard's claws, he shreaded a cardboard box with his teeth!!! and scattered the pieces all over the kitchen floor  Guess he told me.

None of my cats like to be groomed but my seniors, who are generally so sweet natured, turn into Tazmanian devils when it's grooming time. If I had a dollar for every time they knocked the brush out of my hand, I could retire!

Smudge won't let me clip his claws, but he enjoys being combed and brushed, at least for a little while. Of course, he shows his appreciation by wandering around, which makes it difficult!
