I am so heart broken. A couple weeks ago i was in the pound and a mother cat and her day old kittens were brought in and dumped on the desk. The mother cat was one of the sweetest cats i have EVER known. Well, i had a bad feeling since i never seen her after that day even though i knew she was taken to quarantine. (you can see in to most of the two quarantine rooms.) I got around to asking about her today... Her and her kittens were destroyed. I can understand the kittens since our pound just wouldn't have the resources to deal with the kittens, but the mother?!?!

I can NOT have cats, but i would have done everything in my power in finding her a home even if i had to temp foster her for a few days. She really was the sweetest thing. I fell in love with her almost instantly.

I have been so angry and sad since learning this news. (Trust me, half the staff is not pleased with Momma's fate either.)

I needed to share with someone who would be totally understanding. I so want to have a good cry over this.

(And i can't share on my local rescue forum. If anyone found out who told me they would get in trouble. ...and i FINALLY have an inside source that is helping me change around things for the better for the animals.)

Oh god, how awful. To not even have a chance at a good life. I'm so sorry for Mama Cat and her babies. They're all together now, snuggling and enjoying the peace and love that they should've had on earth. RIP and peace to you, too.

Poor momma cat and kittens. I wonder if they tested her first and she had some kind of virus (not that it makes it right, but wondering if they had a "reason" to do it other than just being cruel).

Our Humane Society here does not live up to it's name either. It's very disturbing.

I keep hoping that it was a true euth' because she was sick... like FIV or luk

I highly doubt it though. 1) She looked to be the epitome of health (clear eyes, perfectly wet nose not runny not dry just shiny,) she even had a VERY healthy coat. 2) The three in charge of that stuff at this "shelter" are known to make what we'd consider to be unethical decisions.

And to think... Our shelter is one of the more reasonable in the area. :-/ (They all have their good points and bad points i guess. ...Just there is only one i can truly recommend in Mid-MI... and it's not the local one.) Ours is ho-hum. One moment a decision is made that you want them to get an award for, and the next you're running to the law books hoping to find that what they did is illegal so they can be held accountable. *shakes head in disbelief*

You know... I think that's most of the problem... we don't have any animal welfare group working directly with the shelter (i think they've tried.) The Humane Society here is strictly an educational group. They don't even handle cruelty cases. The other rescues pretty much help stray animals. I've seen such a HUGE different in the county facilities where rescues are allowed to come in and help out. (Weather it be helping with public relations or cleaning out the animal pens.)

That poor kitty and her babies. From the person who left them at the shelter, to the shelter workers, sounds like the cats didn't have a chance. I had always thought of animal shelters trying to help animals get adopted, but this sure gives a different view. Rest in peace Momma Kitty and babies.
