View Full Version : no pets on the bed? no way...

I looked at the results of the current pet poll, which asks if our pets sleep in our beds. I cannot believe that only 6% of pets sleep in our beds. A huge percentage, according to the poll, are not allowed. There must be some glitch here, right??? Almost everyone I know who has a cat or dog lets him/her sleep in the bed, and the critters are most able and willing to do so without hesitation.

My dogs are not aloowed on the bed, they have their own beds, and if they joined me on mine, the bred would break! a big disadvantge to large dogs. But my cats do sleep on the bed. Who am I to tell a cat No??:D

Both of my kids sleep with me. As shown in my posts in Dog & Cat General - A rare sight in this house - threads. :D
Yeah, must be a huge glitch!!! :)

My dogs don't sleep in our bed. I love my dogs, but I don't love their hair in my sheets. Plus, we have seven dogs, and a full size bed for DH and I. No WAY would everyone fit.

My dogs don't sleep on the bed because there just isn't enough room!
Have you ever tried to sleep with 400lbs of dogs trying to squeez and sleep beside you, or worse on TOP of you? LMAO...Not the most comfortable way to sleep ;)

My cats are allowed on the bed, although they prefer to use it while I'm at work all day. ;) My Layla sleeps on the bed with me, Lacey however is no longer allowed to jump on or off the bed due to her knee surgeries, so she has a great bed to sleep on right near the bed. :)
I agree, must be a glitch.
I agree. We have even had threads about how many of us have pets in our beds and I am sure there are more people that do than don't. My dogs are most definitely in the Big Bed every night. The kitties tend to sleep in a kitty ball by themselves. Andy, in particular, doesn't like it when anyone moves in the bed so he was never fond of group sleeping. :p

the only place we dont let the dog sleep on is the sofa. otherwise all the cats and Red can sleep where they want. on beds, on blankets, in the middle of the kitchen floor...

I have a guinea pig and she sleeps in my bed when I am doing my homework and she loves it...but I have to be very careful because I have a loft bed...I don't want her to fall out!!! But I NEVER sleep with her...I don't want to smush her or have her fall out!

HA! When Fister first came up here, I said: He's NOT sleeping on the bed! I must have been out of mind, saying a thing like that! LOL! Of course he sleeps on the bed - I even have to move over a bit sometimes - and I'm happy to. :D

All my four cats have a bed each, Ash never uses his and during the day will sleep upstairs on occasion, they all chose to sleep where they want, but at night time only lexie comes upstairs and sleeps on top of the bed,she never has tryed to come in and even though i have gently tryed to persuade her won't have a bar of it, however as i am allergic to cats, it is best that i keep it to a minimum in my bedroom as my allergies flare up too much, anyhow we have a good thing going here, all the other's are quite happy to sleep downstairs so i am not about to change that, i like that lexie has her own special place, she has had to put up with the invasion of the two other girls in her life , and tolerates them rather well.
I cannot imagine having a cat and not having it either in your bed or on top, that is part of owning a kitty IMO. :)

My birds are always allowed on my bed, even tho my mom hates it, there droppings stain even when I clean it up so I change my sheets allot. I use a bunk bed for now so sometimes Shiney sleeps beside me, I hook his little hut on top. Letting my birds sleep right beside me could be dangerouse if I rolled over during the night yikes! But other than that my birds are free to snuggle beside me while I watch t.v, take a small snooz ect...
You can see Shiney inside his hut on my Siggy photo. :)

i'm laughing as I read this thread because Cassie changes sleeping places 2-3 times every night. She starts off with me, usually on her pink blanket at the foot of the bed. Then she either sleeps on her other blanket, which is on the love seat in the front room, or in the bedroom closet where it's warm. In the morning I usually find her on the love seat. I should say she allows me to sleep with her on the portion of the bed that's not occupied by her blanket!

We believe in the NILIF and us being the "alpha" as well as not being able to keep them in the ferret room. Our dogs have crates, and pillows when awake. they are only allowed on the sofa if invited.
The shih tzu is an exception because he's small, owned by my sister, and has severe seperation anxiety(he chews himself bloody) so we gave up on crate training.
In the future I am unsure if mine will sleep in the bed..probobly be crate trained with the option of invite. ;)

We got a king sized bed just so WE could get some room in THEIR bed!
Many nights, I wake up hot as can be, only to find my legs have been completely covered in two or three cats. I have to gingerly pry my legs out from underneath without waking them up :D

My bedroom is a dog free zone (via a baby gate) where the cats can go to get away from the dogs. Oliver especially likes his peace and quiet and is found daily napping on our bed. The other cats are on our bed less often during the day, but they always have the option. At night we usually have at least Kitten and Turtle in the bed with us, often more.
The dogs each have their own bed and we have some "community" beds as well. The only time any of the dogs are allowed in our bed is when there is a thunderstorm during the night. Nova and Charlie are both terrified of storms so we allow them to come in.

When I get settled and turn out the lights, there are 3 dogs and 2 cats on the bed. But when I wake up cramped and have to turn on the light about 3 AM to see who has to s hift so I can strech my legs, there re usually 3 dogs and 5 cats! The cats come and go all night long. The dogs can't get up on their own. Two of them will jump down (not supposed to). If they need to get up again, they wake me up for a lift. I can do it without coming fully awake!
Just last night for the first time, I woke to Chaplin on the bed nibbling and puncing on my toes! He is about 5 months, and doesn't come up often. So I had to wigle the toes and play with him for a while before settling back to sleep.

Sharing the bed is the only way to go, if room is allowed. I don't care about dog hairs at all. Of course, I've only got one dog. He does contribute a decent amount of hair. Having that multiplied a few times, I might say no to all but not to some.

Sierra always starts out on the bed with me. Then the hubby comes to bed and she either jumps off or curls up in the crook of my legs if it's a chilly night. She's a GREAT foot warmer!!
There is a dog bed right next to my side of the bed she sleeps on a lot.
Buddy paces all night long, he doesn't sleep much.
When my hubby worked out of town the 3 of us slept in the bed all night long. That's when I found out what a BED HOG Sierra is!

Well, my cat's an indoor/ outdoor cat so he sleeps outside. And I don't think it would be comfort able to sleep with a 21 inch long bearded dragon ((on one at all for that matter lol)) and I wouldn't want to smoosh the hermies!!
However, I don't think I voted because if I dog sit they usually sleep with me :)

The day after I voted "no," Smudge discovered the joys of sleeping on my bed! So now he's my sleeping companion and occasional toe-washer at night. He doesn't sleep there unless I'm there, though, except very occasionally. Mostly he sleeps in a basket or box. I'm hoping he'll rediscover his "magic chair" (pressure-activated warming pad under a blanky on the chair) again for the winter soon.

I don't remember what I voted, since each cat is different. Sam sleeps on the bed and considers it his bed. Spunky is not a bed person unless it is during the day. Spunky sleeps with me on the couch or annoys me while at the computer.
Neither are under-the-sheet cuddlers.

When my bro an i were little,, we used to sleep with our dogs an i noticed that Tasha seemed to leave a grimy like feeling behind on my sheets. it so drove me up the wall. so i never allowed any dogs after Tasha passed on in or on my bed since than. unless its just for pictures.

It varies in our household. The cats have their own room that they sleep in at night (husband is allergic) and the dogs are allowed on the bed, but only Chipper seems to take advantage of that. Kia prefers her own bed.

Keep in mind that many pets, numbers-wise, are not dogs or cats. I would be afraid Miss Hoppy would be crushed when I rolled over, and besides, she likes to be hidden under something when she sleeps, so no one can find her.

Our three are allowed on the bed but they rarely sleep on there. They like to hang around on the bed when I'm in my room on the computer. They prefer to sleep in their crates or their own beds.

Very true. The reptiles would never sleep on the bed. :D

Our dogs are allowed to sleep on the boys' beds, but not my bed or my parents' bed. It's their rules. Sometimes Astra or Prince like to sneak up onto my bed in the morning though. :p

When I still had pet cats, I loved having them up on the bed (particularly after the kitten stage when anything that moved got attacked).
Right now, all of my dogs are so large, that having JUST one in bed is rather like sleeping with a sheep sized overstuffed bag of deer antlers and hardware that tends to totally fill up the bed. Mine are allowed up on the bed "by invitation" only, and one at a time please(!), but definitely no overnighters.
There have been some chilly nights when I've suggested to hubby that we consider a three-dog night. ;) (three sheep sized dogs in bed?) The answer to that is a reliable, "you have got to be kidding." heehee

I hate falling asleep without a doggy cuddle buddy! :p
Jack sleeps with me, Micki sleeps with my brother, Mini is usually in the parent's bed, Shadow prefers her bed on the floor and Kyra sleeps in her crate.
Then on weekends after everybody wakes up (and I'm still sleeping :p ) I usually have 3-4 dogs in bed with me. I love it.

Tobey has his own bed in our room and Archie sleeps on the floor next to me.........until they are sure we are asleep :D
Most mornings we wake up with them both curled up with us - I love to start my day with a group snugglefest!

My husband says he never needs a sleeping pill as Tigris on the bed purrs him into sleep.
Filou rather is an under-cover agent ;)
And my mom's doxie used to sleep at her feet in the bed.
I agree however that I could not really imagine with a BIG dog in bed.
As in the poll, maybe most people who answered had horses ;) :p

At home all the animals are allowed on the bed we have had as many as 4 cats and a dog on the at one time with both me & my husband. I would be lost without an animal in my bed. I was recently on vacation (Went home to visit my mom) and called my brother before I left to tell him to make sure his dog was at home when I got there. (sometimes he & the pupper overnights it at his girlfriend's) So the entire time I was at my mom's I shared the bed with my brother's pitbull who weighs in about about 80lbs. :) I just had to have a furry bed buddy while I was away. My first night home I had 4 cats and a dog on the bed with me. They all wanted to sleep as close as they could to me and that suited me just fine. :D

Zeke just doesn't seem to want up on the bed for some reason so I never really bothered. Josie used to always sleep with me. Lately she's started to snore really loud, and she starts kicking/moving in her sleep which wakes me up  So she's not allowed up anymore xD The kitties still sleep with me though

That's how I feel....I've always described sleeping with my dogs as bliss, even if it means fighting for the covers or at times doing acrobatic maneuvers to get in and out of bed.
I have one who spends only part of the night in the bed, but when he does, it is up close and personal (under the covers slapped up next to me).

We have two big shep dogs so they have their own beds downstairs. All our cats sleep in two different groups and have their own rooms. One cat does sleep with us on the bed though and has since we brought her home at 7 weeks of age 7 years ago. 'Stinky' is the only one that my husband will allow on the bed overnight and she has a soft fleecy blanket that is at the foot of the bed on my side. It's really funny, when we get into bed she's so chatty and comes up and chirples and walks all over us and does rollies and has a great time but then when it's bedtime my husband says 'go to your bed' and she gives him a look like "really? so soon?" but then she makes her way down to her blanket and curls up. None of our other cats follow his instructions (imagine that?!? ) so I think that is why he let's her sleep with us.
p.s. during the day we let our other cats nap on our bed and we turn Animal Planet on for them. It's just overnight that my husband only lets one of them stay. He's had some bad experiences with cats racing over him in 'sensitive areas' at 3:00a.m. and he's not too thrilled with that. lol

Rachel I could have written that! Bella is a sprawler and if I need to get up it is just easier to do acrobatic maneuvers than try to convince her to move when she is dead asleep.
Ripley, like Tucker, is an *under cover dog.* Sometimes on a warm night he will jump down and sleep under the bed.

My dog sleeps in my bed. I just can't say no to him! he has a kennel with a Kennel Pad and he has a Tan bed that is very comfortable but he says that neither of those will beat snuggling with me. He's so sweet!:)
