My cat Scooter is an indoor cat. We had houseguests this weekend, and one of them let Scooter out. To make a long story short I heard some terrible crying around the back of the house, and when I went out to see what was wrong Scooter was fighting with a huge male cat. Since they were both going at it full tilt I had to use a broom handle to pry them apart.
Poor Scooter looks like he was in a war. He ripped off 3 claws, and is covered in scratches and scrapes. I took him to the vet, and she gave me antibiotics in case one of the scratches gets infected.
Scooter seems very subdued since the fight, and he isn't going anywhere near any of the doors. We figure that since he loves to play with our other cats, and loves to lick them, that he may have seen this male cat outside and tried to approach him. Little Scooter is obviously a lover and not a fighter, because the other cat had hardly a scratch on him. Also Scooter is neutered, and I don't think that the other cat is. The other cat belongs to some people living nearby, and he is often picking fights with other cats. When I mentioned that neutering him would make him much calmer, the owners just looked at me strangely!
So Scooter is licking his wounds, but I hope he will be feeling better shortly.

Poor, poor Scooter!!! I hope this doesn't change his attitude toward other cats.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Oh no! Poor Scooter! These people sound like the neighbors we have with what I call "the nasty neighbor cat." It's like this cat just picks fights and is the nastiest cat I've ever seen. Anyway, it's good you took him to the vet right away in case any serious damage was done. But since it doesn't seem that way, he'll probably just need a little time to heal. And like Sara says, I hope it doesn't change his attitude at all.
This has always been one of my biggest fears when we have guests, but I think since Tubby is older now, 1)he's not as quick as he used to be, 2)he has learned that no means no and 3)he's much more content to just lie around the house where it's much more comfy. Peanut usually isn't a problem because she's usually hiding when we have guests, and really has no desire to go outside at all.
Here's hoping Scooter heals quickly! :)

My cat Sam knows how you feel, she got beat up by a neighbors bully tomcat a couple of summers ago right on her own front porch! She is a big cat herself and usually scares off any other cats but not this one, he even took a chunk of fur off her butt! She is getting older now and is only allowed out during daylight and usually supervised, she is happy to stay indoors during the winter-doesn't like the snow and cold anymore! Expect your cat to be skitterish for a while, Sam was scared to go back out again for a long time afraid that bully would show up again! I did have the vet check her and luckily she only had that one boo-boo that eventually healed. There seemed to be a lot of loose fur out there so maybe she got in a couple of good shots too.:p

Poor Scooter! :( I bet he's busy licking his wounds now. Hope he'll be OK soon! Give him some nosekisses from us! :)
Fister also got into a fight with a new male cat last year in our yard. This new cat can be really nasty, he's attacked at least 3 different cats, but his owners still lets him out! Fister was living in that yard for the first year of his life and still wants to go down now and again to check everything - it is HIS yard! ;)
Well, after the attack, he didn't want to go down for quite a while, but this other cat seem to have calmed down again - no fights this summer! :)
Here's what he looked like when he came up - but the other cat was bleeding even more.

Oh no!!! Poor Scooter:( How frightening. You obviously ARE a lover not a fighter! I only hope you will not let one bully kitty change your sweet, loving disposition. That's always a fear of mine too...some family member, friend or worker accidentally letting one of the cats out. Thankfully you were not even more seriously injured or lost. Lots of headbumpies and get well hugs and kisses from Sandra, Mr. B and Oliver!!

Poor Scooter is right!! I hope he feels all better soon. I've heard that unneutered males will fight with ones who are when they are outside. I don't know if this is true or not. Mine stay inside. I hope that cat keeps his paws and claws to himself in the future. I'd be tempted to let the neighbors know that they will be held responsible for paying for vet bills in the future if they don't get him fixed. Get well soon Scooter!!!

Poor Scooter (and Fister :( )!! I hope his wounds heal quick and still wants to play with others.
Noah, Noel & Basil send their head bumpies....(I had to MAKE Noel...she's a bit of a "cat hater"
