View Full Version : My Kenny is gone.

Kenny passed away suddenly yesterday. My vet thinks he was actually more like 10 to 12 years of age rather than the 7 or 8 that the girl I got him from had said. He apparently had a heart attack. My vet said it could have been caused by something that is fairly common in Goldens but it really makes little difference. The end result is the same, Kenny is gone. :(

Oh Kim, all I could think was surely this wasn't "our" Kenny. :( :( :(

I don't even have words to describe my thoughts, right now. I have never lost a loved one so suddenly.

What I do know is that Kenny was a special boy and he certainly found heaven, long before he found the Rainbow Bridge. He found you and lived out his life in the lap of luxury. He was my favorite Golden boy on Pet Talk and always will be. I love Kenny. And I love you. My heart just breaks for you and your family today, Kim. I know Kenny is just fine.

Much love.

Kim ~ I'm so sorry to hear this. I don't visit the dog side much so I don't know Kenny, but I'm on my way to search for pictures of him. I'm sure he was a very special dog and I'm so glad you had some time with him.

Oh! Thank you for posting Kenny's photo. What a beautiful Golden Boy! His face is so kind and loving. RIP Kenny.

Thank you all for your kind words. Kenny was with us since last September 2006. We were blessed to have him in for just over a year. Some of you may not remember how we came to adopt Kenny. His "family" moved to Florida and left him behind with their son and his girlfriend to feed. The girlfriend was the only one who cared for Kenny and she is the one who placed the ad for him. He was left all day alone in a fenced area where the grass had grown to over a foot high. Thankfully the girlfriend was kind enough to find him a new home (ours) and he was so very happy to be with us. It was so great to see him jumping around like a puppy, especially when we brought his pesky little sister Dottie home. I've always wondered how his previous owners could have left him behind. I can't help but wonder now if they knew something about his health now that the girlfriend didn't?

Kenny, you were loved and will be deeply missed.

Rest in peace and sleep in the sunshine up at the Rainbow Bridge, dear boy. I am sure you left plenty of little golden hairs woven into the fabric of MommaKim's home that she will find for a long time to come.

{{{{hugs}}}} my mom and dad had two Goldens, one after the other...and sadly they don't make it much past 12 or so.

Of course, it's hard to notice if they are getting old - they are wonderfully goofy and puppies all their lives! :)

Those expressive eyebrows - the constant grin...

May memories of your dear Kenny gradually replace the pain in your hearts...how awful for you it was so sudden.

It's hard because little Dottie misses her big brother. At least she now has Coco to play with her. She absolutely adored Kenny though. :( I feel so bad for her.

Kim

Kim, we experienced some of this when we lost Murphy and when we lost Zipper. Lilly was just lost without Murphy, as they were "inside" buddies together. I ended up taking her almost everywhere with me for a month or more. She did snap out of it, eventually, though. And when Zipper died, Honey was lost. Her reaction wasn't as dramatic as Lilly's had been, but it was hard to watch. Zipper was Honey's "outside" pal. Such gentle souls and obviously, so in tune with what is going on around them. When Lilly died, Honey and Mack didn't react that way, and I guess I'm glad. I was so torn up, myself, by that time, I'm not sure I would have had the energy to deal with their grief. Having another dog to bond with is so important. I'm glad Dottie has Coco to play with.

We will all miss Kenny. :(

Logan, Dottie likes Coco and Coco likes Dottie. Only problem is that Coco is a bit too rough at times for Dottie. Also, Coco is very food and toy aggressive with her! I have to watch as they eat to make sure that Dottie gets her bowl to herself. Also, when a toy is out, or chew bone, Coco hogs all of them! If she has one and Dottie has one, it doesn't matter ... Coco will drop the one she has and take Dottie's away. It gets very frustrating for me to watch! Kenny was so gentle with Dottie, even though he was big and clumsy at times, he never was rough with her!!! I love Coco and I am thrilled that we were able to help her out, but I sometimes wonder if she is a good fit here. Now with Kenny gone, I hope that Dottie will be happy with just Coco.

I am not sure how I missed this post - that Kenny had passed away but I did. Can't be anything to do with 8 dogs, 2 kids and 1 puppy do you think? I was so sorry that Kenny passed. It had to be heartbreaking for you that he went so suddenly. And although it will be heartbreaking for us, I would rather my dogs pass suddenly and quickly rather than them have a drawn out painful death. I often wonder how old our Jack is we were told he was 5 when we got him which would make him 9 now. But sometimes he acts older than that. We all (meaning all pet talkers) love our pets so much that their passing is just so overwhelming.... You will be in our thoughts and prayers!

Rest easy, handsome Kenny. :( I'm sorry I missed this earlier. But like Diana, I think sometimes it's easier when they go quick, it's heartbreaking to watch them suffer. (((hugs))) to you, I know you miss your golden boy. I'm glad he got to be with your family as long as he could.
