Hey guys, a friend of mine got a 10 month old Australian Cattle Dog from a lady that was moving out of state.
They had planned on keeping him but he has bitten their 2 year old twice, once resulting in a trip to get stitches I met him tonight and he is a VERY sweet dog, VERY good with adults. Her daughter wasn't with her so I wasn't able to see how he is around her. They want to find him a new home ASAP. She just can't take the risk with her daughter. She also watches 2 other toddlers Monday-Friday during the day.
I've contacted local ACD rescues so hopefully we will get a reply soon.
Bentley
10 Month old male ACD in Port Richey, FL
NO CHILDREN - he will NOT be placed with children, no ifs, ands, or buts
Fine with other dogs.
No experience with cats.

This is not what you probaby want to 'hear', but is it realy worth the risk of rehoming this dog if he is a know biter? will his current owner take responsibility if the dog gets out and bites someone else once rehomed?

I really don't think it was an aggression bite. I believe he is just very confused as to what children are. I believe at the moment he sees them as prey/something to herd. Having met him, I don't see an aggressive bone in his body. I see a very confused dog with a lot of pent up energy.
He went from running 6 miles everyday with his previous owner, to being in a crate a majority of the day while my friend watches children.
I would not have my Simba today if we went by "if he bites or doesn't bite" - he would be dead. Unfortunately, the ACD rescue I contacted is telling me Bentley should be dead too. I just don't feel that way. :(

Kay, some Border Collie rescue people I know in the south are hardcore ACD fans as well. I will forward this to them and see if they would be interested in taking him into their rescue, or know of someone experienced with ACD's who wants one.

Rusty and Sequoia are both "known" biters.........however they have been with me for ever now and have never so much as lifted a lip. I do not believe in Once bitten dead......
Kay there are a few orgs here for ACDs with your permission I will forward this info and maybe they can help?

Yes, please crosspost to anywhere and every. Be sure to specify that he is not to be rehomed with children.
They have a few people coming to look at him tonight, I hope one of them are the people for him.

How terrible Kay!! Poor guy. Grant would herd me when we first got him and nip at me. He has since learned that it is not okay and no longer does it. I think it might be more of a training issue.

Oh Kay, he is gorgeous! I don't believe for a minute he should be dead! :( I wish I could take him,but you're so far away. And I do have two cats to consider. I hope you find the right home for him soon.

It's not that I don't want him, I'd pick up any dog but I can't home him. We are pretty maxed with 3. Jeff would flip.

Bentlwy sure is a cutie, bummer that he doesn't take well to children. He's a beauty, though.
Good luck, Kay! I hope that he finds a forever home!
