Ok, i was wondering this: Since most of you know that im getting $500 next weekend, i was going to buy an brand new hp desktop. But i looked on Ebay and found Mac laptops like ibook g4's for insanely low prices. I was wondering, is an mac as good as i hear? Also all of the schools computers are some form of macs.

I have seen a lot of Mac users swear by their laptops.

I do not care for Macs, personally.

After all the flack in the thread that is now locked, all the advice telling you to buy a whitebox PC ignored because you swore you'd only buy HP, ad nauseum.....

Now you start this?

Macs are great but beware buying one from eBay if you know nothing about them. Some of the low priced ones down here also have very low specs too, not enough RAM, too small hard drive etc. If it won't run OSX don't buy it.

I have used both, and my resulting impressions were that I despise Macs. PCs all the way lol

My 4 reasons for an mac:

We live in an apartment so space is tight but most of the desktop macs are all in one
I like the graphics
i hear that Mac OS X is more stable and there are less security holes than Windows, especially vista
You can find them good but cheap on Ebay
My desktop went south yesterday and i no longer want Windows
And i also hear that the Mac laptops have great battery life, like 4 hours

Well, since im buying one off of ebay i havent really looked there. But i do know the minimum requirements for OS X and i double that to get the recommended. But i am going to buy an new Ipod Nano from www.apple.com (http://www.apple.com) with my name engraved in the back of it. And reggie is going to the vets next weekend so no reason to worry.

I've always owned a Mac. Had a 5500 Power PC in the 90's, then a Flower Power G3, and now have a MacBook (black) with a core duo processor.

I bought off of Ebay, but I also did a ton of research and also talked with the seller. You get what you pay for on ebay. If you want a reliable laptop, with a good amount of apps on it, as well as a large hard drive and memory to spare, you're not going to get it for $500. I'd be wary if I were you. Shop around and ask the seller questions about the laptop/desktop.

Google would find you a better review than anything I could write!

http://home24.inet.tele.dk/ccadams/se/desc.html This is my first Mac, it's now 20 years old and still works. How many pcs would last 20 years?

You would be extremely lucky to find a decent Mac on eBay for less than $500.

I have found some good 1GH 512 MB ram Imac desktops for $300. I am no longer aiming for an laptop but instead an desktop.

Hi there...with all due respect, I think with this being a Pet forum, you might have gotten almost all the feedback possible.

Re-check the link a few back, or some of the links in the locked thread. A computer forum would give you a lot more options! :)

I've had a MacBook Pro for the last year and a half and I adore it and have had no problems what so ever with it. :)
