View Full Version : My Splash girl is going "home".......

To her forever home, that is. Her new home has been approved by interview and a home visit. Splash is on her way to Vermont, believe it or not. The Golden Retriever Rescue here is overflowing with dogs and had to do a huge outreach to the NE corner of the United States to find willing rescue groups to help relieve the overcrowing.

I knew fostering would kill me.......and it is going to. :( I have fallen in love with this girl, but as a good friend reminded me this morning, I've been saying all along that she needed to go to another family, not mine. Right. I have to keep reminding myself of that.

I'll miss my Splashy girl. 3 1/2 weeks and she has already stolen my heart. :) I love her, and I know she will be happy in her new home with a new playmate and new mom. Just wish it weren't so hard to let them go. She leaves Thursday.....I will be a weepy mess. :(

*hugs*

Oh Logan, I know how you feel. I have been thinking of volunteering as a Foster mommy, but I have a hard time letting go.

Just remember that you did Splash a wonderful thing and think of how happy she'll be in her forever home. :)

Hi, just curious where in Vermont Splash is going, it may be near me. I'm sure she will love it in this state, its a great place to raise dogs and cats too! When she leaves you will have a little extra time and love to go around with all your own pets.:)

 Wow! Kia has beautiful eyes!

I am sure it will be hard to say goodbye to your splashy, but soon another baby girl (or boy) will come along and take another peice of your heart... don't worry, it is beig enough to around...cuz for every little piece one dog takes it gives a bigger piece back :)

Logan, I truly respect you for doing that. That is the very hardest part about fostering...they eventually have to go away. I hope you do OK with it. I know it's hard, but you know that she needs to bless someone else with her specialness forever and ever.

I am glad you did such a wonderful thing, but I am sorry for the loss you are going to have to go through.

Love to you during this parting period :( Just know that we are all here to support you when the time comes for Splash to go home.

I have a niece that fosters newborn babies until a permanent home adoption can be arranged. Sometimes she has the babies for months. It is always difficult to give them up.

Without people like my niece for humans and Logan for our precious furbabies, heaven only knows what their lives would be like.

To think that there are people in the world like you both - that make such a huge difference brings tears to my eyes.

Splash has known nothing but love and devotion and good care. She will take that experience with her to her now forever home in Vermont.

Logan, maybe it is just as well that it is Vermont - because you might be "going over for a visit" pretty often to see Splash.

All of us honor you for your selfless - caring ways.

YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!

Give Splash a hug for me before she leaves your home, please! I know it is hard. I had tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat when all our babies left for their forever homes when they were 8 weeks old. It is gratifying to know that they are going to great homes though.

Is there any way you can know who it is so you can keep in touch. We send cards and emails when something great happens in the puppies life. We also send Christmas greetings. It helps to keep in touch and make sure the pups are doing okay. :D

Logan, I'm sorry you're losing Splash. I know what you mean about being broken hearted...when they took Bailey it about ripped out my heart. That's when I knew that fostering wouldn't work for us. You have all my respect and admiration for what you do. I'm sure Splash will love her new home and hopefully they can keep in touch with you. Give her a hug for me!

Logan, I'm sorry you are losing Splash, but you are doing a wonderful thing. Keep it up and keep your chin up too. You are a blessing to the wonderful critters you help.

Thank you all for understanding. Splash and I had a good cuddle session on the couch tonight, for the first time. She just crawled right up there with me and put her sweet head on my shoulder. Oh my goodness :( . I just hugged her and cried. I know she will be fine. I have talked with her new mom on the phone, and she is so excited about having her..........it is just hard. I keep asking myself if I will do this again, and the answer is actually "yes", I will, hard as it is. It is a worthwhile thing to help acclimate these babies to a real, loving home, and prepare them for life with loving people. Keep reminding me of this on Thursday when I take her to start her journey. :(

Thank's for giving her the most wonderful foster home imaginable, Logan!:) I'm sure Splash came to love her foster family very much. But what a wonderful thing that another family has opened up their hearts to this beautiful girl! I'm sure you'll miss her a lot. But hopefully you'll hear lots of happy updates over the coming months! God's speed, sweet, sweet Splash!!!

I received this picture by email this week while I was away. Splash and Polly were in route to their new homes, and this was taken along the way. I have heard from Splash's new mom that she is doing wonderfully and living up to her name, splashing in any available water!!!! :D You don't know how much better that makes me feel! She romps with her new sister, Amy, a border collie mix, and Bonnie said it makes her tired to watch how hard they play. :)

Such a sweet picture! I can see where it would be hard to let them go. I really don't think that we could let Abby go to another home no matter what! They look so sweet when they are sleeping;) They are doing much better together. Abby treats Buddy like he is a pillow or a stool - told her to "sit" and she sat right down on Buddy's head! She also tried to stand on him while he was laying down so she could see better!

As usual I came in late to a topic!!
I hope you are doing better Logan, I am sure with all the excitement you have had, you are. Splash sounds like a wonderful girl. You are a saint fostering furbabes. I will keep you in my thoughts.

Somehow I missed this post as well. I really enjoyed seeing another picture of Splash and from the looks of her face she was enjoying her trip. What good people you all are who took part in the rehoming of a very special girl. Congratulations to you Logan and Helen and Lily and Honey on a very successfull first foster. Hopefully you will be able to do this again and again.

What a great update! Star was especially thrilled to learn that her water loving Retriever soul mate found such a great home, with lots of opportunities for a "splash!!:D" I hope Polly's new home is just as special! They are GORGEOUS dogs!!

I missed this post when I was in Alabama for a week, and by now Splash is probably in her new home. I know she will have a great family. She is a sweetheart and Andrew and I will never forget Splash and they way she drug Roxey by her leash around your living room :D

I know how difficult it was to see her go. I am still missing Roxey and cry sometimes. She was with me for almost 2 months and totally stole my heart.

Sorry I haven't written . Beginning of school is a busy time usually .
Splash is doing well. I think she is getting taller. She seems to be able to reach the table and certain counters with head easily. Her and Amy(my other dog) play well together. I never thought I would find a companion for Amy that would wear her out but Splash can do that. She is full of energy! I have discovered that she must like or attempt to play with toads. I have found several of dead ones in the back yard. I think she plays with them because the toads are never chewed.
She likes to ride in the car. She loves to go for walks. I can tell she must not have been exposed to a lot of different everyday things and people. When i walk her with Amy , we live on a dirt road where kids are riding bikes and she is a little afraid of them but she is getting better and used to them.
When we are walking the kids in the neighborhood always ask to pet the dogs and she is getting very good at sitting on command and letting the kids pet her and she doesn't jump on them. Since is face is right up to theors sometimes. She does like attention but just the "pet me pet me" kind. She will sit to be petted and sit right across the room to follow you to be petted. Kind of funny to watch her do this.
I have attacched some pictures of her hopefully you can see them. I don't know why they would not come out . I have taken them with a digital camera. Computers can be so touchy! Let me know if you can view them.

(from me, I'll try and post the pictures a little later). Logan

Oh, good for you, Candy!!! As upsetting as it was for me when Splash left, after being with me for a month, it was far better, knowing that she is in a happy home where she is loved and cared for!!! Even if she did have to go all the way to Vermont!!! :D

Logan,

I comend you on the work you do! I would never, ever be able to foster the furbabies! I would end up adopting every one of them!

You have found Splash a "forever" home and I know it will be hard but just think about the special thing you did for splash and the new mom & dad!

Just think Logan, years from now, after Kyle is all grown up, he'll look back with such love, so many fond memories of his "first," his beautiful Splash girl!!:) And you helped to make it all possible! Good job!! And aren't they the CUTEST pair!!
