PLEASE help my friend find a home for her rats!

I belong to the RatPalace forums and a lady posted this VERY SAD message. She has some rats that need good homes, BY MONDAY or she has no other choice then to sell them to a petshop, which can possibly mean snake food!!!! Here is what she posted:



I have several beautiful fancy rats that need homes now. Colors range from agouti; beige; fawn; topaz; platinum; black; russian blue (very nice); siamese(very nice); himi's; triamese; masked. Most are verigated; banded; solid...some capped or masked; some berk or
mismarked; some odd-eyes; several rough coated and rex; several dumbos. Beautiful, lovely little animals. Most are quite young some are nearly 2. I will GIVE them with cages and supplies to someone who is willing to either keep them as pets or get them in a rescue to adopt the majority out. I HAVE to have them OUT by MONDAY!!! NO CHOICE! I will not pick and choose who is to go, it must be by the cage. If they are not picked up by monday, I have to release them to pet stores where these gorgeous creatures will go as snake food. I have no choice. I am located in Shreveport, LA. PLEASE call me, I will not have time to check e-mail or lists. If she were in Michigan I would take one, but I am not able to travel that for for one :(

What a heartbreaker to have to get rid of all of her furbabies. I wonder why such a terrible thing would have happened to have prompted such a thing.

I hope she has luck. It sounds like she has quite a few to rehome :(

If she was in PA..I would help. Unless she is willing to pay fro the shiping to me then I can't help her :( . I hpe the ratties don't go as snake food!

There was no reason why the rats needed to go as snake food. There are other alternatives to feeder tanks. There are humane societies and animal control. At least if they could not find a home they would be put to sleep humanely and not by the mouth of a snake. There are petstores that will take rats as pets. There was a big discussion about this lady on the Rat Fan CLub. She was obviously a breeder. By the sound of her post and having amazingly colored rats (russian blues and platinums are very sought after) I am sure she had no problem finding at least some of them good homes and if not I hope she at least cared enough about them to give them to the Humane Society instead of the petshop.
