Lol I know this is just a wonderful topic here. But Nebo has had bad diarrhea for the past 2-3 days. What's the best way to help that? One book said to not feed them for 12-24 hours...seems kind of mean, but maybe it helps. I think it might be his food. It has been quite soft ever since I have fed him that, but nothing like this. Also I brought a ton of food with us on vacation, but we ran out. There was no place to buy dog food (especially puppy food), so I ended up getting him some no name brand, which he had to eat for a few days. That's probably part of it. I'm going to go buy a higher quality food today, but of course he's going to be sick still from changing food now too. Isn't Pedigree a pretty good brand? I can't afford anything like Iams...

Um, I had some earplugs that I couldn't find. Well, I found them. In Nebo's poo. Entirely whole, I bet that didn't feel too good. He eats everything, I don't know how he did it...I'm constantly watching him, but apparently he's quite talented. lol. I don't think that has anything to do with the other problem though, it was old poo. Just thought I'd share that. lol.

Our big dog get gas real bad if his food is changed. We feed our 2 adult dogs Pedigree, and our puppy is getting the PetsMart store brand of Authority for Large Breed Puppies.

We recently found in one accident in the house, parts of a Pop-Tart wrapper. When our Ginger was first teething, she chewed a nice size chunk of our outside kitchen door molding off. And almost every feeding bowl that can, has teeth marks from Ginger. :(

I have always been told:
If the dog has diarrhea, do not feed for the first
24 hours and than the next day feed a little
food and rice.
IF the diarrhea lasts longer than
2-3 days or if their is fever or other sick symptoms present
than take to the vet ASAP.
Changing dog food could possible be the problem too.
When changing foods you need to gradually add the new
with the old. Like you, I also bring our dogs food on our
vacations.
I probably bring to much food now.
After one of our vacations
we were running low, I made my husband drive around
till we found a feed store that carried the brand of
dog food we use. lol
If you are looking for a supermarket food, I heard
Purina One is a good food.
I do not know if they make a puppy food.

Thanks for all the advice. He really seems normal and happy besides that, he does not act sick at all. When I had to change the food I did mix it in with the old. I bought some Pedigree Puppychow today, and he really seems to love that. I also got some stuff called Pet Pectillin Diarhea medication. I just started giving him some of that mixed in cottage cheese today, so I'm hoping he'll be improving.

Check with your vet, but ours tells us to give our dogs a Pepto Bismol tablet and that usually helps a lot. He also suggests Immodium, but be careful since Nebo is so little. Definitely call the vet before you try anything like that. He also says not to feed them much and if you do something bland like cottage cheese (good for you) or plain white rice. Good luck.

Oh, poor Nebu!:( :( I hope he feels better, soon!

I'm not exactley sure, but I heard that Pedigree has a lot of grease in it. I'm not sure, though.

I don't mean to make light of Nebo's plight, but when Cody was a wee pup and had the runs, the vet said to give him Pepto Bismo...and of course, being a first time dog owner who thought I had complete control of everything, bought liquid Pepto instead of the tablets. Needless to say, I was pink all over, as they say. I don't thing the Codster got a drop in him!! :D :D Thank God, he rarely had this problem, but I also heard that boiled rice (not instant) and boiled chicken helps too. . I've heard that yogurt helps too, and, right, ask your vet what dose of Imodium. I think that it's one human medicine you can give them in certain doses, Poor little Nebo :(

Amy, I hope Nebo is doing much better today. When Daisy's stomach was so upset, our Vet said to give her a1/2 tablet of Pepsid a day. When our other Schnauzer Kona was having problems he told us to give her a diet of , cottage cheese, hard boiled eggs and rice all mixed together. I think all of these suggestions are good. Hugs and Kisses to Nebo, I guess if he is hungry enough he will eat anything. LOL

I hope Nebo is better now. I have given my dogs pepto as well from advice from the vet. Seems to help.

I also give my doggies pepto bismol, tablet form, wrapped in cheese. I would definitely check with the Vet for what dosage since he's still a puppy.

Amy, I had heard that huskies have very sensitive stomachs. I feed mine Nutro. I believe they have puppy food. When he was a puppy, he got into a lot of stuff he shouldn't have and always had the runs. Come to think of it, his BM's were always loose. They were never solid until I started him on the Nutro. It is the cheepest premium food that I have found so far.
