Katie's Suzie got spay today at around 10 am and stilll hasn't woken up from it and Katie is worried sick. The vet has given Suzie two reversals. She is home now with Katie and Katie is watching her like a hawk pleading with her to wake up. Please pray for Suzie and Katie.

Why would a vet send her home if she hasn't woken up from anesthesia?? Even the cats I took to clinics had to be partially awake before the vet let me take them home.

Oh my.... I hope everything is all right.
I don't want to make light of the situation, but I keep hearing the song "Wake up little Suzie, Wake up" going through my head.
I am sure her Meowmie is worried sick.
Many prayers being sent from me and the girls in Indiana.

I'm was just wondering the same question. Why did the vet let Suzie go home when she didn't wake up.

I Am Wondering Too Why A Cat Who Has Not Awakened Was Sent Home, As To My Mind She Should Be Under Observation As It Sounds As Though Too Much Anathesia Was Used.
Please Wake Up Suzie And Set All Of Our Minds At Ease.

PT Prayers for Suzie...come back to your meowmie, little girl! Nice long sleep you had, but that's long enough. Wake up and have a purring nap in a loving lap. :)
Creator, Katie needs and deserves every good thing right now - please restore Suzie to her full health!

I just talked to Katie again on the phone. The reason that the vet let katie take Suzie home without waking up is that no one would be at the vet watching her, she would be all by herself. Katie called urgent care at her town and they said there was nothing that they could do. I found that impossible to believe so i called my vet and asked for advice and she told me what to tell katie to do for Suzie. She told katie to fill empty plastic bottle with real warm water and wrap it in a towel and put it next to Suzie to keep her warm and to give her karo syrup or honey and if she doesn't swallow it to rub it on her gums because suzie is in distress. And if she still doesn't respond to take her to urgent care so they could give her fluids to flush out the aest. But urgetn care already told katie that they couldn't give her fluids. Katie is very worried about suzie. I gave her my vet's number so if she needed more advice she could call her 24 hours a day.

I wonder if Katie has a nursing friend or tech who could do some sub-q fluids? Even at a human ER??? (LOOONG shot, I know!) Or a vet on-call at the shelter?
This is awful...keep her warm, Katie, and give her the honey....
Please, God, let Suzie be okay....!

Katie - if she is swallowing at all, can you get any water down her? Warm water and honey? I know that is not what Melissa's vet said, but I wonder if it will keep Suzie more hydrated?
Suzie...I gotta go to sleep now...but you have to wake up, okay? Your mommy Katie loves you and is taking very good care of you...just open your widdle eyes and look at her!

Last night when I got home from work and feed my gang I called Katie to see how Suzie was doing and she said that the honey really helped her soon after giving it to her she started to slowly wake up. Katie even got her to eat some baby food. I haven't heard from Katie today so since I haven't heard from her i am assuming Suzie is doing ok. I will have to wait until someone at work gets here that I can use their cell phone to call her and make sure. thanks so much for all your prayers.

Ok, I just talked to Katie and she said Suzie hasn't gotten up yet but is alert. and responds when she calls her name. She is still worried about her. She was getting ready to feed her again and I told her to put more honey inher since her gums are still whitish. I think I am going to try and call my vet and see what she says. Kepp your prAYERS GOING.

Prayers Sent!
I hope her OWN vet can give some advice....they owe her a free house call, as far as I am concerned!
All I can suggest is mixing in warm water with the baby food and the honey so she gets rehydrated.
Sure good to hear Suzie knows her name and her meowmie's voice! :)

Thank you all SO much for the prayers and positive vibes! Also thank you to Melissa for keeping everyone up to date on this situation AND for caring about us.
Phred, please kiss the prayer pups for me!
As you all can imagine, this is all of our WORST nightmare. It can happen... I think we all forget this sometimes. (including me).
My vet sent her home with me at 5 pm, and she was still knocked out. I would not have left her either way, seeing as she would have been there with no supervision... I would have taken her home with me anyways, because atleast I could watch her.
I called my local urgent care, and they said that they cant do very much, seeing as she has already been reversed, and that as long as she is breathing, she should be ok, until my regular vet opened.
At about 12:15 am, after the honey and warmth, she did start to open her eyes.
I woke up every 1-2 hours to check on her, and I kept reheating the bottles, and the towel in the dryer. I also got about 1 syringe into her with baby food and water.
This morning until about 4 30 in the after noon , she was still alert but still not standing. I kept on with the honey and just about the point Melissa and I talked, and she said her vet said take her to the vet, I went to try the food one more time, and Suzie was sitting up in her cage! She had to go potty
She is now in my bedroom, still very groggy and cant stand well, so I am taking her in the morning to get her fluids and maybe a blood glucose to see where she is, to be on the safe side.
I am sorry you all had to worry about Suzie, I was a neurotic mess all yesterday. I would have posted earlier, but I wanted to stay in the house and watch her.
Once again thank you all for the prayers and for worrying with me. *HUGS* Katie and Suzie

Katie, I am happy to hear that she is doing a bit better and pray with all my might that she comes through this with no problems.
Please don't apologize for worrying us. As I learned, PT people are unique, who will cry, laugh, worry and pray with you whenever one of our babies need it. I experienced this with my Katie girl. It's good to know that no one has to go through these emotions alone, as PT will always be here for us, no matter what.
{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}} Katie, as I know what you must be going through.

Katie, we are just relieved that Suzie is doing better. I put myself in your place and if it had been one of mine I would have been a wreck. Melissa was great to let everyone know what happened. It is wonderful to have a group like this one who love their furbabies and are so supportive of each other. Let us know what the vet says tomorrow. My crew sends headbuts to Suzie.

I am so happy to hear that Suzie is doing better. Big ((((hugs)))) to poor meowmie. I know all too well how scary this very situation is.
I had a very similar thing happen when my Hallie was spayed in 2003.
She was dropped off at 7AM, spay done by noon, all was supposedly well, pick her up by 7PM. Simple right? No way.
I was there at 7PM. The vet's office stalled me for an hour and a half, telling me she was still waking up. Finally at almost 9PM, they gave me my now "awake" cat, who was breathing, but not moving at all, eyes closed, face almost completely nose-down in her carrier. The vet told me that she had been an “anesthesia hound” (yes, that is an exact quote), and that she had required almost twice the normal dose of anesthesia. To this day, I am convinced that he almost killed her that day (and I soon switched vets after this incident).
Once home, I left her in her carrier, and it was 2AM before she moved at all. Over the next few hours she woke up a little bit, just enough to vomit twice. I took her out of the carrier to clean it, and she pathetically stumbled (falling over several times) the approximately 3 feet to her catbox, where she peed. She then stumbled another very sad few feet, collapsed, and passed out again for another ~6 hours. After that, she finally slowly woke up normally, and within 2 days was happily trying to rip out her stitches  (she needed to wear a "cone" for 2 weeks) She recovered fine, and is still well today.
Diane (who is sorry for the hijack/epic post, but I can so totally sympathize)
Here is a photo I took of Hallie once she passed out that first night (I hope that it isn't too graphic - I couldn't figure out how to thumbnail it  ):

I am so sorry that both of your cats had a terrible experience. Io was a handsome boy, that is so sad:(
And poor Hallie, that is EXACTLY what Suzie did, the falling/ collapsing, and then back into coma like state. SO SCARY!
I truly was worried that Suzies heart would stop... I was on the phone with Melissa, and I went to check on Suzie, and her breathing was so low, my heart sunk, I thought she was not breathing. Panic set in....
But today her vet appointment went well. I took her to another vet that I have used for the younger kitties, and they said she looked good, was a bit dehydrated, and that I can continue the baby food with her regular food for a few days. She is only 2.8-3 pounds. A very TINY 1 year old. That is why I waited so long to spay her, I had to save money and hoped she would get bigger.
Anyways, thank you once again for your prayers and support. *HUGS* Kt and kitties

I had a similar experience with my foster Kelsey! They had to call the vet back in to the clinic. She gave her a reversal and it helped fairly well. At least she was awake, but she was still very groggy for quite some time. I know how scared I was just for that short time. Bless all of your hearts who have lost or almost lost kitties to this!
I'm so glad that Suzie is on the mend!!!
