I have taken a really big interest in Yorshire Terriers and although I'm highly doubting my parents would let me get one any time soon I just wanted to see what you guys thought of these breeders.

I really like this ones dogs but they don't really give much info on anything.

I like this lady too she seems to give a bit more info and she has a 5 year health garuntee.

Those are actually the only two I can find that I like and to me seem decent but I dont know what to look for.

We have a rescue near here but they are SO strict. I dont think they let their dogs go to people with other animals or little kids.

You might want to "think" about this thread you made BEFORE you even think of added a new pet.

I never said I was getting one, I said I was looking at breeders.
And like I stated in that other thread they are caged and I think everyone in that thread agreed they are harder to care for because of that. Of course I would have more time for a dog, it can come almost everywhere with me and it has the other pets to play with as well not to mention the fact that it can come to work with me. But again like I said I'm pretty sure my parents would let me get one anyways.

Don't even get started with bad pet care as everyone knows what you have done in the past with animals.

Oh Alicia, he he, you are just in acquisition mode this year, aren't you?

I can't say about breeders, I didn't look at the sites as I wouldn't know what I was looking at anyhow. I will just comment on the breed. Terriers do have a high prey drive. OK so not each individual animal within the breed will have that. But remember, you have cats! Yes it is possible to find a Yorkie who gets along with cats fine, no problem. It is just a bit more . . . challenging to find the right dog.

Just my off the cuff thoughts.

The first breeder has thirty dogs (22 are bitches) and had four litters from June 11-25. Even when I was looking for Belgian breeders, two litters a year made me iffy.. but four seperate litters in under one month screams quantity over quality. Raising a litter is hard enough, I can't imagine thirty dogs and four litters. I do like that she has Championships on some of her dogs though.. but I still would look for a better breeder.

The second breeder is against pet stores and puppy mills, so I like that. But at the same time, I didn't see anything about showing her yorkies (I could have missed it though) or health clearances. I also didn't like that she didn't mention anything about tests done on bitches she breeds her studs to.

Based on their sites, I probably would continue looking elsewhere. :)

That's what I read, and they aren't very good with other dogs. But if they are raised with them won't they be ok?

I have seen in the dogs annual magazine a listing for OZyorkshireterriers but I cant finc the site. Every time I type them in it says it doesn't exsist.

Funny, your going to need to refresh my memory as to what wrong I have done to my animals? The only thing i know & admit to doing wrong was putting a large filter in my 90gal & not realizing that BIG filters eat LITTLE fishies, & Mojo was sucked into the filter to his horrible death :( I admit that, but thats hardly a reason to say "about your past with animals".

Heres a list of ALL the animals I have owned & been responsible for since I have Joined PT .

Axle - hes 8yrs old & in great shape. The TO zoo & the OSPCA even say so!!

Oscar - Spent a grant in 1 yr trying to fix an illness she had. She lost the fight, as that illness always causes death regardless, but I tried.

Jack - Not too sure, he just died. But Fish have a random habbit of doing that. Sure him dying the first time caused a lot of internal damage, & then he died a yr later.. I'll never know.

Mango - My friend killed him while I was homeless. He refused to follow my directions & poisoned Mango. I had no idea until Mango was already dead. As I wasn't there.

Lilly - She 1yr old & doing great!

Mojo - Already explained that.. Feel like poo cause of that. THAT was my fault 100%

30+ tiny fish in a 90gal tank - Still have them, every single guppy greats me everytime I go near the tank.

Digi - Only had her for 2 weeks. Shes put on weight & has grown. She was very thin when she was dumped on me.

Max - He was murdered while being babysat.

So out of ALL my pets, which ones are you refering to??
Chad's animals?? Sorry they wern't mine. I did my best for Bear. I dropped everything to take care of her & she wasn't even my dog!!

I would type more, but I want to go home as its 5pm & I'm off work

I didn't make this thread to start a fight with you, if you have a problem pm me.
By the way I think you forgot all the rats/mice that you bred and owned and that other little dog Mr.wiggle/Biggles something like that...

Why does everyone feel the need to jump on buttercup whenever she posts anything she has been very civil and it asking for help, please stop!

Well, not always. That helps, definitely.

I think someone on PT recently lost their cat, Loki? To a dog they'd lived together for 3 years. It was quite tragic. If the prey drive is there, then you need to always be on your guard.

Oh ya, it was CritterCrazy. So I think then maybe I would have to either look for another breed or find a breeder/rescue who socializes them well with cats.

Make sure the dog can fit in with all your other pets too. I would visit them and chem them out before (or if) you are going to get them. They are adorable though

The rats don't count as I bred them to feed to my turtle. I took care of them & they were in a massive cage & always had fresh foods, water, & aspen. I treated some of the breeders like pets, but for the most part they were fairly wild, as they were not bred to be pets. That one male, wasn't my rat.

Mr. Biggles wasn't my dog.

I have not miss treated any of "my" pets. I did my best for other peoples pets, but I have little to no say in the care, or treatment of those animals... Also at the time, what little money I had, went to my pets first, then me & what little that was left over, went to animals I was trying to help... Like Bear.

If you have more to say, you know where to find me.

Yorkie are adorable dogs.
But if I remember you said that you were thinking about moving out and most landlords don't like to rent to people with pets. Most only let you have 2 pets.

After talking to some people about them, as much as I really like them I'm thinking they won't work with my life style if I'm going to have other dogs and my kitties.

Buttercup, don't look at advertisements in magazines. Reputable breeders are popular regardless of ads. They are popular and well-known for the quality of their dogs. You will only find them if you search, not on the Internet, but at dog shows.

Go to a dog show, ask around, get a couple numbers, ask for health clearances, ask for a health guarantee, ask to see parents' accomplishments, ask about socialization, ask about their lifetime support guarantee (if they don't have this, RUN away), and, lastly, ask to be placed on their waiting list if they check out alright. It's fun to "shop around" for breeders on the Internet, but a lot of reputable breeders don't have the time or funds to keep a nice, pretty website updated. In fact, I think it's more fun to shop around for breeders at dog shows ;)

If you do want a Yorkie (I'm not saying you are getting one) think about it. Think about if you handle another pet and if your cats will like a dog.

Think about if you handle another pet and if your cats will like a dog. I already have 2 dogs. And all my cats adjust well to other animals being in the house.

My mom's friend had a little yorkie for about 12 years and it got along great with her cats and chickens, and I think she had a few ducks and rabbits off and on. Her yorkie was so awesome with the other animals. Her name was Abby and she was so precious :) Sadly one day my mom's friend was backing the car out of the drive and accidentally ran over her. It was so terrible because they had had her for SO long.
I'm not saying any yorkie will get along well w/cats or anything, I'm just saying sometimes there are exceptions.

I hope you find the kind of dog you're looking for buttercup.

I use infodog.com, but I'm not sure if they list Canadian shows. I found this on Google, which might be a good start:

and I know she's a bad example of the breed, but....make sure you're ready for a challenge. I researched getting a yorkie and thought she would be perfect. Bless her heart, she's a joy - but definitely a challenge.

My Molly has been non-stop 24-7 since I brought her home. For the first three months, she had to go out every 3 hours -night and day. She appears to be nocturnal (loves to roam the house all night). We have to block the hallway at night so that she can't look out the living room windows. She loves to bark at the creatures that wander through our yard at night (I live in the country). And boy does she love to bark. She has a very high prey drive and has several confirmed kills in our back yard (small rodents-) She tolerates our other dogs for the most part. I think she'd like to be an only dog, but that's not an option and she knows it so she deals with it.

Like I said, she's not a good representation of the breed but sometimes that's what happens even if you do a lot of research.

I told someone the other day - I wouldn't take a million dollars for her, she's my baby girl. But you couldn't give me a million dollars to take another.
