I never thought I would post a question in here....
Oscar. My tabby boy who was tamed and rescued by a former employer a couple of years ago. At the time, the vet said he was 2 1/2, no older than 3. So - he had been in the wild all that time.
My bosses gave him to me for Christmas - and I was delighted! He tamed down, and was here about a year before fluffy Cole joined the family. So I think he saw me as another cat - he snuggles on my pillow, grooms my nose (holding my face down with a long paw), etc. I just say this to say he is VERY bonded with me...doesn't snuggle with his 'brother' at all, though they like each other!
ANYway...I have seen him sniff my laundry before. No biggie. Today I have a lot of laundry on the floor as I just got back from a few days away.
I tossed last night's PJ bottoms in with the pile...and let's just say I saw Oscar lying on the laundry, and not only sniffing but LICKING "That Part" of the PJ's!!! There's nothing "on" them....but ewwwwww!!!!!!!!!
I buried them in the laundry pile, and when Oscar started to dig, they went into the laundry hamper!
PLEASE tell me your cats do this..................... :(

Candace,
My cats don't do this, however when I was growing up with Airedales, they used to get into the hamper and pull out my underwear and my Mom's. I don't know why, but EEEEWWWWWWW!!!!

He's just happy because it's YOU - like his Eau de Kittycat in his cheeks that he rubs on you after you get out of the shower. It's just a family-safety-warmfuzzy thing.

I'm embarrassed to admit it but I caught one of my cats doing it, although I can't recall which one. (Probably blocked it out of my mind. ;) )

I know one of my guys has a thing for my dirty socks and panties in my laundry basket... hasn't been recent because ever since another one peed in the dirty clothes in the basket, it's been put out of reach. I'm thinking it was Finae, because she also like to sleep inside any pair of pants that I take off. She's just a strange girl. She'll also sleep with her head almost inside my sneakers and shoes... it's like she's a dog!!

I'm sure if you search under "pillow" and "Magoo", you'll get the story of one of our most famous Cat Talk kitties, ahem, "getting busy" with his human's pillow! (Yes, he's neutered.)
Me, I think it's a scent thing, too. :)

LOL! Magoo - haven't had any news on him and his pals in AGES!
Anyway...Oscar was not 'getting busy' with anything...just sniffing and licking....eeeewwww!!!!!

I have seen my cat (the male) sniffing around in my laundry. He, too, will sink his head completely into my husband's shoes--I won't even smell them that closely!
In some ways I think that cats are similar to dogs in that they experience the world first through their noses. And since you are the favored member of the pride (or the pack)--after all, you do provide the food and control access to the outside--they want to connect most strongly with you.
When our kittens were young and we would travel away, we had to board them. I would pack a dirty sock from me and my husband for each of them to keep in their kennel--that way they always had a familiar scent from home. It's a good way to get a new kitten or cat to warm up to you sooner--put your dirty socks where they sleep. After all, look how close their nose is to the ground. Have you ever gotten down on their level and smelled your house? You'd be surprised.
Anyway, I think your cat honing in on your intimate apparel is just another way for them to feel close to you. I know it's gross, but take it as a compliment. Oh, and you may not want to "kissie" on their mouths. Nuf said.

Catty, you are forcing me to admit I can be sloppy :o. But at night i do tend to toss all my clothes on the floor, including the undies, to be put in the hamper at another time. (OK, so I am lazy :p)
Well, I have SEVERAL cats who are totally addicted to the undies!! I guess I smell REEEEEEEAAAAALLLLLLLL good.

My cats just sniff and lie down in our dirty clothes, whether it be underwear or tshirts. I truly think it's just a scent thing.
