My Frisco has a nasty rash in the pit of his left leg. This rash is about an inch long and is raw as can be. I noticed him licking and running around so I knew something was wrong. This is my "touch me not" kitty so it took a little while to get a hold of him and see what was wrong. It seems to be healing, but it's still red and crusty (some scabs are starting to form). My Jessee (now at Rainbow Bridge) had the same thing. Every once in a while these itchy sores would appear on her belly. I took her to the vet and was told just to put Neosporen on it. The sores healed really well. But every now and then another would appear, heal up and go away. This rash that Frisco has looks like the same thing. Anyone ever have these sores or rashes on their kitties. Maybe it's some kind of mange.
Purrley my Andy used to occasionally get something that sounds very similar. It shows up on his leg and sounds quite a bit like what Frisco has (although not really a sore, but looked more like a crusted scratch) and it is accompanied by a swollen lower lip and the vet said the two areas are the same thing just manifesting itself a little differently. He said it was an allergic reaction and told me the medical term for it but unfortunately the name was long and I couldn't remember it once I had left the office. He treats it when it occurs (so far only three times and maybe a year apart between flare-ups) with a steroid injection of some sort. It works immediately. Apparently the condition is not painful but just looks bad. I will be waiting to hear other Pet Talker's responses too. Hope Frisco starts to feel better soon!

My kitty Miley girl has been struggling with something similar for a month now. I have had her to the Vet twice for it. This last time he gave her a shot (cortizone) long acting, to stop the itching. He seemed to think it was an alergy of some sort. She HAS stopped her licking for the time being. I would do the trip to the Vet for sure. A small spot can develop into a staph infection, then you go to the big league. I don't want to scare you. You may want to do some internet surfing to get more information on this. It is common with doggies too!

Purrley,
Sorry I don't have a clue about the rash. What Pam has
described sounds very similar to what you see on Frisco.
Just wanted to wish you luck getting this treated. Liz.

I don't know anything about this either. I just wanted to wish Frisco well. I hope it's nothing serious. Good luck.
