Pregnant Pitt

I have a Pitt that was a stray and found her way to my house. She is at least 3 weeks pregnant and is starting to get aggresive to my other dog. When she first came here she was playful with my other dog and now when she sees him she growls and jumps on him and the start to fight. Is it normal for dogs to be aggresive when they are pregnant and will she continue to be this aggresive after the pups?

It could be that she is aggressive because she's pregnant. make sure you have a seperate room when she has the pups so she can have her privacy and that the other dogs don't bother her because she will probably be very protective of her pups. I hope you are able to find them all good homes. it's so hard to place pit bulls. :( they are wonderful dogs. I truly love them and hope to have one someday, rescued of course. :)

At only 3 weeks into pregnancy there's no way to tell for sure that they're pregnant. If she's obviously showing, she's much further along than 3 weeks.

It's highly unlikely that she's dog aggressive because she's pregnant. But if she's dog aggressive now, she'll be even more fiercely aggressive once she goes into labor and has puppies to care for.

If she's already showing signs of being obviously pregnant--better get the whelping box ready and keep the two dogs apart!

How do you know she's 3 weeks along?

I don't know much about expectant moms, but I've never heard of one becoming aggressive because they were pregnant.

I'd make sure to keep the dogs seperated.

How do you know she is pregnant? Unless you were there to see the tie, (and even then you can't be certain), there is only one way to tell for sure, and that is the vet. Around 4 weeks you can go to the vet for an ultrasound. You really won't notice much of a " belly buldge" until week 5. I would schedule an appointment with your vet as soon as possible, to get her all checked out.

Dog agression is not uncommn in pit bulls. Just keep them separated, especially as she gets closer to her due date and after the pups arrive.. Make sure to set up a quiet area in the house just for her (an extra room, ect.).

Also if you need any pre-labor/whelping advice please don't hesitate to ask.

Next, dogs usually do become aggresive when they are pregnant. You should take her to the vet soon to get her checked out to make sure she and the pups are healthy, if you haven't done so already. When the pups come give her privacy and keep her away from your other dogs.

That way no more guessing and you can prepare for the puppies and care for the female. she should be on puppy food from now on and while feeding her puppies. A whelp box should be made for her. Towels ready, sizzors, iodine, neck bands for pups, scale, book to log time, weights, etc. Among just a few things I named alot of things must be ready like a garabage bag for the placentas after checking them all. throw away so she does not eat all of them.

I don't think this is a concern any long and the person never checked back but the day is from August of 2007 ;)
