I was at Wal~Mart today and they had some angel fish in the little cups that they keep bettas in! I feel sorry for the little bettas every time I go in there, but now angel fish!! I couldn't believe it. Don't angel fish have to have air bubbles? I know they need filters and stuff and they need plenty of space to swim freely, but I wondered how long will they live in a little cup?? It looked sad :(
I have an angel fish and I've had them for years. I always have kept mine in a big aquarium with plenty of air bubbles, plants etc..

That is just plain sad. I hope this was a one time thing and not a new trend. They have hermit crabs, betta fish, ADF and now angel fish? They are going to far.

Angelfish don't breath at the surface, so yes they should have filters or air pumps. They also are taller than long so their fins may not fit in the cups. I hope this is just some cruel joke some teenagers played with the cups instead of something the store is doing. I don't know of any national fish suppliers who provide angelfish in cups.

Wow... I'm at a loss of words for this.
Has someone tried contacting a local animal rights organization about your walmart? I haven't seen this trend in my walmart... in fact, my walmart has taken live fish out of it altogether. Thank God!

No, I'm afraid not. They had way too many in cups for a teenager to have done it and plus they had a price above the cups that said $7 something...

Wow, that's horrible. Next thing you know, people will start trying to house angelfish in a .5 gallon setup. You should ask who they use for a supplier. Most walmarts will tell you.

yeah I thought about next time I go if the angel fish are still in cups to ask about it. My mom knows a guy who works in the pet department at wal mart and I'm sure he could tell us something as to why they're doing that. it just seems cruel--it's bad enough they do it to bettas but at least they can breathe w/out air bubbles...

That is horrible!!!!! I love Angel fish, but have never seen them in litttle cups before! Our Wal-Mart has also done away with carrying live fish. This is fine with me b/c every one I ever got from them has died. I recently went to PetSmart and got a Betta and he is doing great. I feel sad for the angel fish! :(

yeah, I hope they don't keep this up much longer. Any fish I've ever got from wal-mart had always died, except bettas and gold fish. I think they are pretty hardy fish and they always live a long time when ever I've gotten them from there. Once I bought a few tetras and some sword tails and a few mollies and they all died within a few months....

After the four week quarentine period I no longer consider any deaths or sicknesses the fault of the store they came from. Our walmart actually has a very good fish section and I have no problem buying fish there. I haven't had any mass deaths from walmart fish. If they start selling angelfish in cups they certainly will hear from me though, and the supplier too.

I've never really thought after having a fish for several months and then them dying is the store's fault. It's just that I've bought some sword tails, tetras fish like that from 'actual fish stores' and then bought some from Wal~Mart and the ones from wal mart just don't live as long. I think it's because their immune systems just aren't as strong as other fish other people own/raise.... Some are just tossed here and there and aren't looked after and cared for as good as others... It could be like down the line or something and a fish be ok for a while but then die not long after you get them because of several reasons---not necessarily being your fault or the stores...

I wanted to let you all know I went to Wal mart today and I didn't see the angel fish anywhere. They had a few in some aquarium tanks so hopefully the rest were bought and carried to nice homes with big tanks and the rest that are still there won't have to be put in those small cups anymore!!!
