Hi some one suggested to me to use Dawn dishwashing liquid. Said it would kill the fleas, but to make certain to really rinse well. Does anyone know if this really does work?

Hi frawri, I'm not sure if it would work, but if I had to guess I wouldn't think it would. Everyone would get that instead of getting flea meds. for their dogs :D I've never heard of it working before either, but who knows!! Maybe someone else will come by and see this and know....

I would just stick with Fontline or Advantage! Cheap tricks will only get you a temporay fix, if anything at all. I would just spend the money, and avoid the Frustrations later. :)

I've heard of Dawn for ticks.

Here are some threads with info on getting rid of fleas.

Almost any soap will pop the fleas, but there's no residual activity to keep killing them. Dawn would be especially drying to the skin, too.

I'm not really sure if it will actually work. It won't hurt to try though. I would suggest going to the vet and get some flea meds for or dogs. I know that will work and it will probably work a lot faster too.

Use Revolution. It kills flea eggs, fleas, ticks, tick eggs and earmites. Do not bathe the dog 24 hours before or after using the Revolution.

Once you've treated your dog, you'll probably have to flea bomb your place. Dawn dishwashing soap does work when combing your pet for fleas. I bathe my cats in it because it's the closest to a cat's Ph. Comb your pet with a flea comb and check it for moving black dots. Dip the comb in hot soapy water. It kills them instantly.

I've used Dawn as a flea shampoo and it actually works very well - you just have to make sure you rinse well.
If using a flea comb - you can have a dish of hot soapy water to dip the comb in - to kill them.
For the floors - you can sprinkle the laundry detergent additive BORAX on the floor leave on for a few hours- and then sweep up it eats thru their stomachs (fleas).
just remove the animal from the room while its on the floor

Hi Shais_Mom. I haven't really tried using Dawn as a shampoo for pets but since its a dishwashing soap, it might be too harsh and too drying. There are actually some good medications out in the market like Frontline, Advantage, Revolution and other non-chemical treatments which you can use that are specially designed to treat against fleas.

I'm attaching a link to our site which discusses each brand. Just thought this might prove useful.

Do let me know how it goes and if you have any questions, I'm just a click away. :)
