Remember the dog Freckles that was abused by his owner in Chelen, Washington?
The owner kept Freckles in a harness and chained-up in the yard. When he was finally released, the harness was embedded into his skin and fur because he had never really been out of it.
This horrible man also taught and encouraged his childeren to beat the dog. :(

Freckles has a new home (and 2 new brothers)!! :)

Here is the story of Freckles meeting his new family and finally arriving HOME for the first time. It is a feel-good story and very touching:

I'm so happy for Freckles, and I wish the same treatment for his former owner that the former owner gave Freckles.

Freckles, may you live the rest of your life in perfect happiness...you deserve it.

Dogs are so forgiving, aren't they? Precious little Splash, who was so badly abused by her former owners loves us like we have had her since birth. She climbs in our laps, gives us kisses, romps around the house, wrestles with the girls, and is just happy, in general. There are good endings, we just don't hear them often enough. :D

I am so glad to hear that Freckles's future looks brighter
now. It never would have happened and he would still be
in that horrible situation, if not for a vacationing couple in
the area who could not stand to hear his hearbreaking cries
for help. The stupid jerk who was beating him actually gave
Freckles to this couple when they asked to take him off his
hands. If they had not had the guts and the compassion to
act, he might be still be suffering where he was. I would like
to personally pin a medal on these kind, caring people. Liz.

I am so sorry that poor Frekles had to go through such hell in the beginning of his life, but my goodness look at how gorgeous he is! He's truly stunning, and about as cuddly looking as possible. What a sweet heart. He deserves all the good things that come to him, and he sounds like he is in true doggie heaven on earth with his new mom :)

Update on the trial date of the so called "human being"
who abused Freckles and other dogs who have had the
misfortune to cross his path. The trial is scheduled for Thurs.
Sept 5. I would like to pass this info along and ask anyone
who lives in Washington State, or a nearby state, to please
attend in person and show strong support for prosecution
of this person and justice for Freckles. The link is here;

Just found this site. So glad Freckles has such a wonderful home;)
Did any one go to the trial yesterday on Sept 5 to show their support for Freckles? I don't live in that area and just wondered if there is any news on the results. To bad they can' t give him a sentence like he gave Freckles.

It is just so wonderful to see such a happy ending for Freckles.

taken from above the last picture

So happy. Thank you , Freckle's mom. And keep sending us updates. You're planting a big, stupid grin on a lot of human faces.
Certainly did that:D :D

And a quote from what Lizbud said about the couple who rescued Freckles.
" If they had not had the guts and the compassion to act, he might be still be suffering where he was. I would like to personally pin a medal on these kind, caring people."
I think we would all agree there. :)

also wanted to add this- a good quote I think:

On another note - we had to pleasure to once again speak with City of Chelan Police Chief Ed Bush - what a great guy. He was very upset that the Chelan County Prosecuting Attorney referred this case to the City Prosecutor. He said," You know, I used to interview many sexual offenders at the beginning of their purported "rehab" - where they must admit to anything and everything they had done in their lives. So many had said that they started their lives of sexual deviance by either hurting an animal or sexually abusing them. It's clearly a stepping stone to human violence." Chief Bush "gets it" while so many law enforcement and prosecutors don't. The City of Chelan is lucky to have him represent its citizens.

VICTORY FOR FRECKLES !!!!

Well, I just checked the site again and the idiot who kept
Freckles tied on a 3 foot chain & beat him daily for the first
7 months of his life, has been found guilty on two counts of
animal abuse. He is awaiting sentenceing. Please check this
link for the latest update on the trial;

Public input is still needed for this next phase of justice
for Freckles. Thanks, Liz.

Thank You to all of you who sent an e-mail to this judge.
She promised to read all the mail & e-mails that were sent
before the trial before she would hand down a sentence
in the case. I'm sure added e-mails to encourage the new
tougher animal cruelty law in Wash. should be strickly applied
in this case. Wash. just enacted tougher laws on animal abuse just two years ago.
This man who was convicted on two counts of
the cruelest kind of abuse I've ever heard of, certainly qualifies
for the maximum sentencing. Pasados is hopeing to get the
guy banned for life from ever "owning" an animal again.I hope
it happens. It would be true justice in this particular case.
I'm thrilled that Freckles has a happy life now, but really do
think that the world at large should know that people are
very serious about enforcing these newer laws.

I'm sure that Yorkster or I will be sure to update later.

Our e-mail is on the way to Judge Wise. :)

Note this paragraph on the Freckles web page:

"Sentencing is December 12th. PLEASE e-mail Judge Wise and kindly ask her to impose a sentence that will not allow the defendant to own animals in the future. By law, he can receive jail time or a fine or both - but to us, nothing will serve a better purpose than to MAKE SURE HE DOESN'T OWN ANIMALS AGAIN. Please thank her for her decision!"

The Judge Wise e-mail is linked from this page:

Well, it's over. Judge Wise handed down her decision
on the case of Freckles. Read what Pasados Safe Haven
has to report;

http://www.pasadosafehaven.org/Freckles_home.htm

I think he should have gotten more jail time, but 10 days
without a drink should help sober him up. What a disgusting
excuse for a human being...

Good news. I DO wish the sentence was harsher (like NEVER owning an animal of any kind again and more jail time).
I think it's nice that the church is helping his childeren, but I don't understand why they would ask for no punishment  :(
Do they really believe that he did nothing wrong? I might have to write and ask them what their thinking is on that........................

At the very least, I believe that this guy will be watched pretty closely- in Chelen county anyway. I hope so at least.

Thanks again liz! You're awesome! :D

Liz,

You did a great job in bringing awareness to this situation--I agree with Yorkster about him owning an animal for only a few years....he shouldn't be allowed to own one for the rest of his life....it's like saying a child molester will be rehabilitated after 2 years, which is a crock of crap.

I am just glad that there are people out there like Freckles' rescuer that can't sit by and think its alright for someone to abuse an animal...

Thanks again for bringing light to Freckles story and I am so galld he's found a loving home.

I admit that I was haunted by Freckles story before
he was taken in by the Pasados Shelter. I liked the fact
that they pursued the case through the courts. The moron
who badly mistreated Freckles was finally held accountable
for his actions. I mean the guy committed blatant acts of
horrible cruelty in front of several wittnesses. He felt the dog
was HIS PROPERTY and he could act with impunity.WRONG!!!

The reason the church became involved was because he
could have lost custody of them for teaching them to abuse
the pup & b/c of animal abuse cases being tied to cases of
suspected child abuse. Many times when you find animal
abuse, there is also child abuse, of some form, also going
on in the family. The church stepped in supposedly to look
after his children.

yorkster
12-17-2002, 01:38 AM
I don't understand why the church would think that asking for no punishment would be beneficial to his childeren. If this is how this man is (if you can really call him that), then you can only imagine how he treats his childeren, to say nothing of what he is teaching them. Sounds/seems like child abuse in addition to animal abuse to me.  :(

toastco

Amen and Amen To what Yorkster said!
The only way the children will be protected is they are removed from the home. If he is cruel to animals, then no doubt he is to the children. I don't think the church would be willing to see that the children are removed from the home.
I think this is one of the worse animal abuse cases (that we know of) How many poor things are abused and nobody steps in to stop it.
In my area, a few months ago, a small kitten was put on a ourdoor grill and burned. A next door neighbor ran over and got it, but when he was taken to court, the woman said she didn't see anything. So, the person that did this got off !! I was upset about this for months!! How often does this happen!!! As we know this is the beginning of child abuse.

As for why the church would step in to recommend no
punishment for this man, I haven't a clue. The church group
is Church of Morman (Latter Day Saints), and I don't know
what there teachings are regarding animals.Maybe they
want to "save" this man, and don't consider the animal
abuse as worthy of punishment. I really don't know.
There is an new article at the Freckles update page that's
titled "Domestic Violence Victims , aren't all human"
that tells the depth of the animal/human abuse problem.
