I spoke with Nancy about Sasha. In particular her constant panting. Nancy said that Sasha feels like she cannot get a full breath. Almost asthma like. She felt it was imperative that we see the vet and get a chest xray as there is something wrong in/with Sasha's lungs. Otherwise my 13 year old sweetie pie is feeling just fine, in fact body wise she's feeling about 8-9 years old, not 13. Nancy said the breathing issue is causing Sasha great anxiety. That she likes to be in the basement cause it's easier to breathe and quiet.

We are off to the white coats this afternoon. I will update when we get home. Wish us luck.

I will tell him at our appointment. It's in just a few hours. He's been my vet for 15 years, it will be interesting to know what he thinks.

Nancy was right and the vet said so. Sasha has a lung issue. She will be spending the day tomorrow with the vet getting tests and chest xrays. :(

I told the vet about the reading. He does believe in such things so it made the visit so much easier. Somehow I knew he would.

So, something is wrong with my baby's respiratory system. Hopefully nothing dreadful. I can't lose my last fur baby.

I'm so sorry. I hope it's not bad news. I know how hard it is to be without them for even one day. When you're with her again, please give her lots of lovin' from me, ok? I pray it's nothing bad and she'll be with you for some more happy years.

Thanks everyone. She's sitting beside me on her dog pillow. She's been very loving and active since we got home. I just can't see her having something seriously wrong. That's what I'm praying for anyway. I love her so much.

In 15 minutes we will be leaving home for the vets. I'm completely stressed out. After I drop her off I will go to work and try to be effective until the vet calls to advise what he's found. Will let you all know as soon as I know. Sasha and I appreciate your good thoughts and prayers.

Phone call from the vet:

He's taken lots of xrays, sees no signs of pathology. Thought she might have a collapsing trachea but that is not the case. She seems to have typical old dog lungs and nothing physically wrong.

She seems to have a decreased ability to handle stress, which happens as dogs get older. And might be the whole problem here. Her licking/chewing of her front legs is a stress reaction, much as we might bite our nails.

She may have allergies and we will consider benedryl for her. We might also have to consider anti-anxiety meds.

He is going to review the xrays again when they're dry to ensure he's read them correctly.

I will talk with him again when I pick her up. He really just wanted to call to let me know there was nothing "serious" that I'd need to worry about. He figured I'd be sitting here fretting about it, and he was right.

I'm glad it's nothing serious :) Give her some lovin' from me, as well. I hope she's got many happy years left with you. Dasher licks his front paws a lot, too. I've been wondering if it was a nervous thing. I guess I might talk to the vet to see if he still needs a little bit of meds, still.

Well, she's home. I reviewed the xrays with the vet. Nothing to see, nothing at all. Looks like all her symptoms are related to STRESS and possibly allergies. I will get her the benedryl tonight and go to the doggie health food store tomorrow and get some rescue remedy. I'd rather to that route first than to the high test doggie anxiety meds. Phew, nothing physically wrong and she should have a good long time with me. YA HOO!!! Just need to reduce her stress and figure out what she might be allergic to.

Thanks all for your good thoughts and wishes and prayers. We will all be looking at Sasha for a long while yet. :D
