Taking him in to the vet in an hour. He skipped dinner last evening and breakfast this morning. His eyes are glassy and his walk is odd. Normally he is dashing about with Bobby. He hasn't interacted with anyone since mid morning yesterday. All he does is sleep, and grumble if I pet him.
Billy did the same stuff right before he died. :(

This made me smile, as Chestnut is anythng BUT little, he he.
He has quite the fever, they were concerned about it and gave him subq fluids to try and get that down. Also took blood sample, will have results tomorrow.
Chestnut is marked as a "caution." When we went for his annual in June, we could not weigh him; the vet could barely do the physical exam. The vet tech was wearing the thick gloves which go up to the elbows. Chestnut was a hissing, spitting, biting, clawing maniac. It took 4 of us to keep him on the exam table. In other words, he was his normal self at the vet's.
Today, he sagged on the exam table. All on her own, the vet tech got him weighed --13.6 pounds, same as May of 2006. Vet tech -- again with no help -- got his temp with the rectal thermometer. The vet did a thorough exam. Once in a while he would glance at what was happening, that was his only reaction! Only took one tech to give him the fluids and get his blood. So he is clearly not himself.
The vet said his bladder and colon are full. With 8 litter boxes with hoods in 4 different rooms, it is not easy to tell if he is using them or not.
I was to get some baby food for him and try that and the a/d prescription canned food. But when we got home, Ruffles needed her a/d and he ate some of that, so I will hold off on the baby food. At least he ate something!
Just have to wait for the blood work as nothing showed up in the exam except that he is not himself at all.
Thank you for your prayers and good thoughts!

It is so heart wrenching when they are not themselves because we all know just how fragile they are. I hope the news will be good tomorrow and will wait for a update.... Please post soon as you hear something.

I am so sorry that poor (and yes, widdle) Chestnut is not feeling himself. Sounds like he was such a good boy at the vet.... but clearly that was because he was not feeling well.
Many prayers coming from me and the girls in Indiana for good results tomorrow..... come on Chestnut.... EAT!
Too many furbabies have lost their appetite lately. :::sigh::: if only I could lose mine, and then Sasha would slow down some also!. :::sigh:::

Oh boy, that's scary when a cat w/that type of disposition at the vet's doesn't do what he normally does. Sounds like my Puddy and when my vet calls about her, he wants to hear that she has hissed and growled, etc. If they don't give him that report, he knows something's wrong. So I can relate to what you're saying. But you know that my Puddy has bounced back so many times and Chestnut can, too. We're all praying for him and you, too. Keep us posted.

Thanks everyone, it really means a lot. Chestnut is 9. I found him, a one pound sick little kitty. He has been fine after recovering from all those baby things.
He sits in hiding, won't come out, and doesn't do a thing but sleep. I feel badly doing NOTHING, waiting for the blood test results. But he ate more of the a/d, so he is taking in a little bit.

We returned to the vet this morning. Chestnut's blood work shows he is healthy! His white cell count is slightly elevated, and his temp is 103.2. He is now on clavamox. He was lots more vocal today! ;)
The vet expalined there is something called "fever induced illness" which felines get. They don't know what causes it. Seems to runits course in 7 to 10 days. About 25% of all pet cats get it. In household of 10, one maybe 2 will gt t, so they aren't even sure if it is contagious. Virus? Bacterium? No one knows.
And the little son of a gun, in spite of eating less than half a can of a/d in 72 hours, he hasn't lost a single hundredth of an ounce! The vet said they are very efficient little bodies and, not moving about, he doesn't need to take in much. The whole body just slows down.
So we just wait and see, he should be over the worst of it. The vet is guessing his fever "broke" this morning. At 7:30 AM he was the worst I've seen him. I was on the phone in a flash, which is how we ended up with another appointment. By 10:30 in the exam room, he was the best he has been in 4 days! Silly boy, scaring mom half to death!
And by the way, I took Ruffles along and had her weighed. She is coming to the end of her month on meds and they wanted a weight before they decide what to continue and what to stop. At the lowest, in that horrible week in June, she was 6.09 pounds. Today she is 7.2 pounds and a happy, HUNGRY girl! :D The vet would like her just about 8 pounds, is what she said this morning.
