I have a 9 yrs old poodle/ maltese mix. His name is Smokey. He has always had skin problems ( since he was a puppy), but yesterday I noticed a small, hard knot on the back of his neck. It does not seem to bother him b/c my husband & I have touched it( put pressure on it) & he doesn't seem to notice it @ all. The vet can not see him until next week, but I am just scared that it will be something serious. We recently lost our 15yrs old cat & I am just extremely nervous. Has anyone else had this problem?

A "bump" can be just about anything from a small vaccine reaction (which should go away in a couple weeks if you had vaccinations given recently), a tumor (either cancerous or non-cancerous), an oil filled cyst/infected hair folicle (basically a doggie zit), an abcess (infection under the skin) a bruise, or any other number of things.
Only your vet will know what it is by feeling it and possibly doing x-rays or a biopsy.
If it is rapidly growing or bothering your dog, or draining pus/blood,then I'd see if you could get your dog in somewhere sooner. Otherwise just be patient and wait for your vet to diagnose it.
I hope it turns out to be nothing serious. Please keep us updated.

I hope it isn't anything serious. Hopefully, it is just a bump that doesn't mean any harm. Good luck at the vet next week! Keep us updated on Smokey!
