Chester has a headache and it's all my fault. It started out innocently enough. I came back in from checking on the mail. I did the usual check for tails and such when I shut the kitchen door. Because of the high humidity here lately the door sticks and is hard to shut. Well, I managed to get it shut but noticed the lock was stuck so had to open in again to get the lock to work. When I went to shut it a gain, I felt it hit something and bounce. Then came a loud screech and Chester fell on my head, dug his feet in and ran. He had crawled up on the refrigerator and apparently stuck his head out to peek out the open door. I didn't know he could stretch far enough from the refrigerator to reach the door. It happened so fast! He wasn't there and seconds later he was. I felt awful. I hunted him up, surprised he didn't hide from me. I checked him over and rocked him, and cuddled him, and appoligized over and over, and about drowned him crying all over him. Poor boy, I cried for a half an hour. It was a site all right; me crying and getting him all soggy with blood gushing out of my head and hand where he had dug his claws in when he fell on my head. He seems fine and is milking this for all it's worth. He just has to look at me and I pick him up for a cuddle or offer a treat. Luckily, my scratches aren't too bad either. My head hurts but that's ok, I'm sure his does too. What a morning!

I picture you both sitting there with ice packs on your heads, gauze wrapped around in a haphazard manner, Chester with a look of righteous indignation, and you with tears.

What an image! Please both of you -- heal well and quickly!

oh, I am so sorry to hear about your terrible morning! I know exactly how you feel, I once shut my Cookie's head in the refrigerator door, and she was just a tiny thing at the time! she shook her head for a few minutes after that....it makes you feel terrible, and so guilty, I know. cats are more forgiving than we are I think,(they have to be!) and they are so bad about always sticking their heads to into any space, or open door. they also have an amazing knack for always being underfoot! since these 2 new ones have been here, I forgot how much I have to look down before I can walk forward or turn around! I have stepped on tails and bumped them with my foot alot! then I feel soooo bad, because they look at you like why did you do that? once I kind of kicked Emma, she was on the rug in front of the sink, and she blended in, I had no idea she was there, and I went to walk , and kicked her, she ran off and I chased her trying to pick her up and comfort her. I guess thats where the expression curiousity killed the cat came from:eek:

don't feel guilty, your cat will be fine. I guess you will have to look up and down before closing doors! hope you and your cat are feeling better soon!

Ouch! Poor MOFF and poor Chester! Such a bad way to start the day, but it sounds like no serious damage was done so you can comfort yourself with that. And I'm sure Chester will be much comforted by all the extra attention and treats.

Thanks everyone! You all made me feel better. The rascal is sleeping now; tummy up. He seems fine and is in better shape than I'm in. He really got his claws into my head. Lucky, for Chester, he had my head to break his fall. :D

Ooooooooooooh, you poor baby! And Chester, too - but it's your open and bleeding wounds I empathize with. Grasshopper is doing the empathy thing with Chester, having been stepped on, kicked, sat on and rolled over on at night!!! I still wonder if the lump on her tail isn't from a particularly hard stomp that happened when that looooong tail got under my laundry-basket-laden self's foot!! Hope you both feel better!!!!!

Thanks again, everyone! Having friends like you makes these upsets easier to take. Chester is fine and helped me do the dishes this morning which consisted of his hanging over the sink watching me, grabbing at the soap suds, and waiting to make sure all the water got down the drain without his help. I now have the headache. I am surprised how much my head hurts. I've dabbed antiseptic on it and it's doing pretty good. Good thing we both have such hard heads.

If you'd like to see what the rascal looks like (well sort of, the pictures are his baby pics), Sandra kindly put my babies under the thread Come Meet Momoffuzzyfaces FurFamily. They really do exist.:D

"Casey" (all-time #1 GSD, {RB} :( ) was about 2 yo when Fred (part-Siamese) arrived as an adoptee super-tiny, weeks old kitty Kat. Fred adopted Casey as foster mom and followed Casey everywhere - including meals.
Fred would stand on her hind legs and dangle her head into Casey's bowl and try to mouth what kibble she could reach...

Fred developed a taste and finally managed to *eat* a piece one night... Casey gave a soft *Grrrr* and curled a lip; but gave up and continued eating around Fred. Feeling *full*, Fred needed a nap, and slowly climbed up and into  the bowl, curled up and covered what was left of Casey's dinner. Casey whined and gave me a *Daaaaddd...* look. I shrugged and glanced away.

Heard a muffled *Meee-rowww* then a soft *Thudddd* and lookd back to see Fred tottering, legs askew, and rapidly *shaking* her tiny head - beside the bowl! Casey was happily finishing her dinner.

I picked up the kitten and discovered her head was quite damp - with Dawg Drool! Seems Casey had, ever so gently, picked up the offending Kitty - by the head - and placed her back on the floor!

Thereafter, Casey would permit Fred to share one or two krunch pieces at meals; then curl a lip as a signal to back off. Fred would obediently sit down and observe till Casey was finished; then climb right in and lick up any remaining dust and crumbs.

They were quite a pair! :)

Awwww....that's such a sweet story of Casey and Fred. Must have been written by Phred though, instead of Cinder or Smoke or even Bootz. ;) :)
