Hi, I thought this would be a neat thread to start. I was looking at the Bon thread, and saw Anna's tattoo on her arm, but it wasn't a close up and I'm interested to see what it is :) (hint hint, Anna) :)

Anyway, I LOVE tattoos and I am addicted to the show Miami Ink too. I only have 2 right now, but have many ideas of more that I want.

So anyway, post a pic of your tattoos, obviously, only post ones that are in a spot that are appropriate for Pettalk viewing ;)

Tell us a little bit about it, if there is a meaning or story behind it...

Here is the first one I got on my ankle...there is no meaning behind it, I just liked this particular butterfly and it was my first one...it's about 4 years old...
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c400/my_harlee_girl/DSC07646.jpg

Here is my second one, on my back. This is mine, my husband, and my 2 boys birth month flowers. Mine...yellow daffodil, hubby...white narcissus, older son...purple aster and younger son...lilies of the valley. So it's a special one for me. I had my tattoo guy draw it up. The "finger" waves symbolize where our family got its start, at the beach, where my hubby proposed to me...it's only about 2 months old...
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c400/my_harlee_girl/DSC07643.jpg

This third one is MY HUBBY'S tattoo...he has one more sitting to go, and it will be finished, the koi is swimming upstream ( up towards his knee, since it isn't finished yet, I thought I'd clarify)...the koi will be red and oranges...should rock when it's done...

OK, now show us yours....

Wow Robyn, love yours! Never figured you for a person to have any tattoos, but then again everyone says the same of me:)
I'll have to get Mark to take a few, or if I can find some pics I already have I will post them tomorrow.

I look forward to seeing others!

Hee hee - your flowers one is lovely.

No tattoos on me, with my hyper-sensitive skin, I'd probably be allergic to the inks and end up with a massive infection.

How awfully sensitive is my skin? Mosquito bites itch for days - the ones I got July 4th just stopped itching today. After ten minutes outside that afternoon, my shins did a good giraffe pattern but in pink and white instead of browns, as each mosquito bite swells to anywhere from a half-inch splotch to over and inch.

Well, mine's nothing special. It has no meaning and I've had it for over 11 years now. I originally got it done without color and then a year later had it colored. I'm thinking of getting another one, but I want it to have meaning and I just can't think of anything.

Edit to add: I LOVE the tattoo that has all of the flowers representing your family. That is beautiful!!!

!
that's what I thought - but boy is it gorgeous!!!
I don't have any but have wanted one for quite some time.
I would like either a paw or a tiger lily. Or both. ;)
the paw would be for all my animals of course and the Tiger Lily is my favorite flower - I used to pick them with my grandma so it holds a special meaning.

 Shock from me too, Robyn! I knew you were getting a 2nd one but had no idea what it was! It's gorgeous! The flowers are a lovely idea! I love lillies of the valley-my month's flower-just like Jeremy!!! I'm thinking of faces of Cody and Logan on my ankle. Big question...despite rabies shots, surgeries etc..I hate needles...does it hurt???

Thanks everyone! Taz_Zoee, your tattoo is very nice, I love it.

Karen, yes, it does hurt...I remember thinking, this will be my last, it hurt so much, but the back is sensitive area...ankles hurt too though :) But really, after it's done, IMO, it is so worth it! If you get one, let us know!!

BTW,Karen, hubby HATES/DREADS/TERRIFIED of needles, and he dealt fine with it...it kinda feels like someone is scratching you over and over AND OVER in the same place with a pointy needle, as opposed to feeling like your being stabbed by a needle...it's uncomfortable, but if you talk to your artist while it's being done it helps the time pass. Boney areas hurt more than "thicker" meatier areas :)

OK everyone....keep posting, I know more of you MUST have some to show.....

Taz-Zoe, very cute!

Robyn I liked you explanation of the scratching over and over, that's exactly how it feels to me. Not a good feeling but worth it all in the end.

Now, I did find a scrapbook page where I put the pictures of my tattoos I have and one is a little risque' so look at your own risk!

Not all of them mean something, just designs I liked.
The bird of paradise was a gift from my dad, the Sturgis one we just wanted a remembrance of when we went there (we had him draw the design from a pin we got there) and the flowers on my left hip was an anniversary gift from Mark (he also got one at the same time).
The large one one my right side I had the artist draw up. I really like it all except the dark shaded part on my butt, just wish he wouldn't have filled it all in with black (too late now though  ).

I do need some touch up on some of them and I have my very first one (an eagle on my right arm-my whole family has some sort of eagle tattoo) that I like, but has faded so much and is so plain. One of these days I'll get it fixed:)

Anna, I LOVE yours!! Wow, the one on your back/side are truly a work of art...so awesome!! Rob and I have a 10 year anniversary coming up in April, and we may get a tattoo for it...the same one...we're thinking of the sparrow, they have 1 mate for life and so that symbolizes our marriage, if we get it, I'll have to take a pic. Rob also wants to get a "pin up" of me...kinda like a model from the forties, but of me...we'll see :) That may be another idea of an anniversary gift to him. But they are really great tattoos, thanks for sharing!!

I have one on my upper left buttock/hip of a dream catcher. Don't have a picture of it though. My son and I each had one done when we were in Amsterdam a few years back. His is Mr Natural on his right shoulder. That whole trip was magic and special for both of us.

I love all the tattoos! Robyn- your flower tattoo is incredible!

I have currently have 2, I want more though.

This one was a birthday present from my husband (he was my fiancee then though). I got it 7 years ago, a couple months before our wedding. I've loved ladybugs for as long as I can remember (since I was a kid). "Ladybug" is also Justin's nickname for me. Also I drew the ladybug.

This one I got 2 years ago. (The picture was taken just after it was done.) I got it simply because I love my pets and wanted something to represent them.

Wow! These tattoos are really beautiful. Tattoo artists truly are artists. I've seen several episodes of Miami Ink and was always impressed by Cat's portrait work. It simply amazes me how someone could replicate a face of a person on skin with such detail and accuracy.

My skin is getting very sensitive as I get older and thus I know it would not be a good idea for me to even try. Also I know I the type who would tend to want *a change* after awhile. Not an option with a tattoo.

Robyn, add me to the shocked list! Your's are beautiful, but I would have never expected you to be the tattoo type of person. ;)

Anna, I knew you had plenty of tattoos but I never knew how large that one is! It's beautiful!

I don't currently have any, however I have plans for one in the future. I'm going to get Simba's actual ink paw print on me somewhere.

Wow I LOVE your back peice and the meaning behind it. I like the idea of getting flowers that represent your birth month. I like flower tattoos but never have a a reason to get one.

Anna I never knew you had so many! They are all so nice and colourful.

Sorry my pictures are huge.

Got this one Dec 05. No meaning really, it's on the inside of my leg.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v713/rockee12331/IMG_3370.jpg

That one I got in December 06. I really love fairies and fantasy stuff and I always loved Disney as a kid (it's a disney fairy. It's on the inside of my arm.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v713/rockee12331/IMG_3364.jpg

And last is this one. I guess this is the only one that has meaning to it. I got it was when Roxy (bunny) was with me and it's to represent her. It's on my hip. I thik I got it June 03 or 04.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v713/rockee12331/tat1.jpg

I still really want some kind of animal one on my wrist of either a hand and a paw or one I found before without the vegan.

I'm not a tattoo person by any means! I don't hold it against anyone who wants them, but I just have to wonder about a few things. First, what if you want to wear something really dressy and classy and it has a low neck or back? I just wouldn't want my tattoo to show with everything I wore. Second, what are they going to look like when you are old shriveled up old ladies? :D Can you imagine being 80 or 90 with tattoos? I just wouldn't want something that was so permanent, in case I outgrew the phase.

That's why mine is where it is... on my toe. I can reveal it (sandals) or easily cover it up (dark hose, non-open toed shoes). I also picked a spot that doesn't fluctuate easily with weight gain or loss.... or age for that matter. :)

I don't have any tattoo's because I'm afraid of the pain and also because they're permanent. If I ever did get one though it would have to be a paw print or a cat.;)

I have a friend named Cat and she has at least 10-12 tattoos and she's a realtor and she some how manages to cover them all up. She also has a black cat tattoo.:)

Kay, I want the same think, but Niņo of course. I'm getting it on my upper back in black and grey for my 18th b-day.
I would only ever get black and grey because I don't like the look of colors fading. (Anna, your colored pieces are stunning though)
I wanted Niņo's portrait on my foot, but I don't trust any person to capture him and his spirit properly, so I'll stick to designs. I do want more in the future, probably around my ankle and on my feet. I want a stylized version of the paw print marking Niņo has on his legs made out of spots. I also think I want soemthing that reminds me of a big cat, like a cougar or lionness. I also want a horse shoe on my butt. :p
For me, anything would have to be classy and carry lots of meaning. Something like that, like Niņo's paw print, I would always want to show, even at a fancy event in a strappy dress.

I totally understand where you are coming from, tattoos aren't for everyone. But as for me, I would actually like it to show when wearing a low cut back on a dress, I think they look hot that way, and as for when I am old and wrinkled...well, at least my wrinkles will have some style to them, lol, heheh ;) :D

I love tattoos on feet! I wanted a paw print on my foot but the tattoo artist talked me out of it. He said because feet shed so much skin (much more than other places) the tattoo would need to be "touched up" often to keep it looking good. Just something to think about. I still may get a tattoo on my foot somday.

Same here. The artist actually said he wouldn't do it on my foot for exactly that reason.
But I still want one. Silly actually but I'd like to have a bright pink paint brush mark on the top right of my right foot...it was in a dream I had and I've always wanted it since :o

I have 5 Tattoos, But need help taking pics of them. But, My first one is a Pegasus on my left ankle. Then I got My name is Chinese on the back on my neck, then I got my Virgo symbol on my left.. Breast... And the last two I got the same day. I got Paw prints on my Right breast.. And A heart with wings on my right ankle. They ALL have a reason. My Pegasus is because i am from KY, and went to the Derby a lot.. and it is a Symbol they used a lot. My name on my neck.. well.. obvious. My Virgo sign, another obvious. My Paw prints represent the time Tyson Joined me.. he just walked into my heart, and into my life, and left his imprent there on me.. I will always love him and remember him for it. I May take one of your ideas to put his name under it though :-) My Heart with wings is .. I had my heart taken from me.. and I was able to get it back.. it was like it flyed back to me one day.

I Will try to remember to get pics up sometime :-)

I know where you're coming from. I don't mind people who have tattoos, but I would never want to have doodles all over myself. :p If I wanted to wear something really classy, or a dress for a/my wedding, I just think a stonking great tattoo would spoil the effect. I've also never seen anyone in a top profession with too many tattoos and piercings. And sometimes a lot of people I see with tattoos on limbs especially seem to have really inflamed looking skin around it, even after they've had it for a couple of months. Still, I don't mind people having their choices in life. :)

I'm too much of a wuss to get a tattoo ... I'm not sure theres anything that i'd get now that i'd still be happy with 10 years down the road. At least with my piercings, if i get bored of them i can take them out, but with a tattoo its a different story.

I'm going to live vicariously through my sister instead -- she goes for 'appointments' every 2 weeks (read: more tattooing). Shes been getting tattoos since she was 16 -- the pictures i've included are all the visible ones at least. I've been joking with her, that I'm going to start investing in stocks in tattoo removal companies just because of her ;)

Heres some pictures from a wedding she went to a couple weekends ago and her BF.

Great tattoos everyone, keep them coming!!

It depends on where you are getting the tattoo to depend on how much it hurts. Boney areas, and areas where there is thinner skin, hurts more, in my opinion. My husband got his on the muscular part of his leg and said it was tolerable. Mine on my back, hurt a lot...not a fatty area...lots of bone...so it was pretty painful, and while I was getting it done, I said "no more"...but I will get more....I can't wait, they are addictive!! I think it feels like taking a sharp pointy needle and scratching it over and over and over again in the same spot (and after it is all over, it kinda feels like sun burn...just tender skin, but that doesn't last long..a day or so)...but in the end, the artwork is so beautiful, that is was worth the pain, IMO. :)

I don't have one right now but I def. want to get a few..

One will be with my twin. We want to get a twin symbol and maybe each other's name on us.

I found these symbols today
http://www.whats-your-sign.com/images/twinchinese.jpg
This is the Chinese writing symbol, or Kanji symbol meaning twins.

The duality of nature is a concomitant of the twin (Gemini) sign. This sign represents duality in thought, causing contradictions. However, the symbol is also indicative to adaptability. Those with this sign have a knack for "twinning" their personalities to fit in.

It's very difficult to decide which one if my sis likes one of these because we are identical but we don't look alike so either one would be fine.

Genogram Fraternal Twins:A genogram serves as a useful and illustrative guide to certain characteristics within a family tree, or family chart. This symbol indicates a fraternal twin within the family tree.

Genogram Identical Twins:As mentioned, a genogram is used when representing a trait within a family tree. This is the symbol indicating identical twins within the family chart.

Then I would LOVE to have the Origin Of Love symbol.

The other one I want is Maggie's portrait with her name under it.

Wow your sister has some amazing tattoo's,

I love the tree/branches affect on her left arm and the ravens on her chest.

I REALLY want a small raven tattoo but I'm scared of the pain lol.

Just woundering anyone know how much a tattoo hurts and whats the feeling?

:o

She gets all her tattooing done somewhere downtown Toronto, and has been going to the same guy for a long time.

She says that the most painful place that shes had tattoo'd is her stomach - that it hurt like nuts. The chest hurt slightly less than that. Everywhere else was ok aparently.

Mine on my ankle was not too painful. It was more annoying. I just wanted to scratch it while he was doing it. It was slightly painful closer to the ankle bone and then the flabby area behind (toward heel) the ankle bone.

I just got an email about people not getting tatoos anymore but they are carving their back. And it totally turned my stomach. Not for the faint of heart. Anyone wants it - email me....

Although I find some of them pretty or attractive, I personally do not want one or any. I have nothing against them for other folks. I cannot muster up the nerve to put myself through the pain and discomfort and risk. Yes, there is risk. Not all tatoo places are sanitary. Not all restaurants are sanitary either..... but just don't want to risk it.

It surely is a personal choice. Go for it if you'd like. :D

I also can't think of anything I'd want to permanently mark my body. The only thing I can think of is a paw print on the bottom of my foot. For some reason I love the idea of walking on a paw print every day... but I can't even consider it seriously because I already have foot issues where some days I feel crippled thanks to heel spurs. I can't think of purposely hurting my feet, even for one afternoon.

I have a friend who has a ton of tattoos and she's always getting another one added...... her last one was inspired by her cigarette lighter :p the one before that was Bret Michaels signature on her hip. She's very careful of where she puts them because she doesn't want them to show at work.
