Hey everybody! I couldn't wait, it's time for the clambake! Let's see I've got the steamers, lobster, scallops, corn-on-the-cob, plenty of butter and other fixings. Somebody know a good DOTD for a clambake (please, no clamjooz). :D

Bloody Marys are good!! It's not really Klam Juz but if a bloody is made with Clamato Juice it's really quite good and not "fishy" at all!!! And freshly made lemonade for those that prefer it. I like to make it with sugar water (similar to that to make Sweet Southern Tea). Hmmmm, how many PetTalkers does it take to make lemonade ;) Plus plenty of beer for the crab pot of course ~

DOTD should be BEER! A clam bake - I used to go to those with my grandparents and aunts & uncles in upper state New York. Wow! Were they ever fun. They were a benefit for the local volunteer firemen.

What a hoot they were! One of the years I attended my favorite Uncle had crash landed his small plane. He had made a landing strip in the fields behind their farm. I watched him do this and was beside myself..........until we watched him walk away from the plane. My Aunt put her foot down then, and claimed she was going to plow up the landing strip all by herself. Use the local airport she shouted at him! We were all relieved he was alright.

He drank beer all day at the Clam Bake and I have never, ever seen my Uncle get so drunk. He really didn't drink! But, he knew he was lucky to be alive.

So - barkeep - whatcha got to offer in a really good beer to go with these clams and corn - and oh.............gosh, I am drooling here.

A clam press I suppose? :D And please...don't offer me the job of cleaning the clam press...that would be worse than the cleaning job after the food fight!

Well, I guess we should get things started. Do we have enough big pots, I need one for the lobster, one for the clams and one for the corn. Mario, you wanna help me husk the corn? Make sure you pull off all the corn silk. Oh, look how cute Mario looks like he has a blonde wig with all that corn silk on his head.

Oh you know what else we need, Jimmy Buffett and Margaritas

Nibblin' on sponge cake,
watchin' the sun bake;
All of those tourists covered with oil.
Strummin' my six string on my front porch swing.
Smell those shrimp--
They're beginnin' to boil.

Wasted away again in Margaritaville,
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
But I know it's nobody's fault.

Don't know the reason,
Stayed here all season
With nothing to show but this brand new tatoo.
But it's a real beauty,
A Mexican cutie, how it got here
I haven't a clue.

Wasted away again in Margaritaville,
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
Now I think,-- hell it could be my fault.

I blew out my flip flop,
Stepped on a pop top;
Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home.
But there's booze in the blender,
And soon it will render
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on.

Wasted away again in Margaritaville
Searchin' for my lost shaker of salt.
Some people claim that there's a woman to blame,
But I know, it's my own damn fault.
Yes, and some people claim that there's a woman to blame, And I know it's my own damn fault.

I've never been to a clam bake. I have been up to Door County, Wisconsin for a fish boil, though and the traditional dessert is cherry pie. I hope that will work for a clam bake; I'm starting the crusts now. Be back soon.

Cherry pie sounds great. Here's some New England style clam chowder and some clam fritters to get everyone started. Can someone make a pitcher of Margaritas and/or slushies?

That's why we built the huge fire pit out back a few years ago. For just such occasions!! It even has one of those strong metal rods to hold pots up over the fire  I'll gather some some wood - team work, don't you just love it. (by the way Sara, I can't wait to get home tonight to read every page of KlamJuz again - thanks) ;)

WOW!

I'll dig the pit.......When we would make goat or pig it goes into a pit in the ground - like a luau....I think we can pull it off!

how's about a beach song?

Rock Lobster -B 52s

We were at a party
His ear lobe fell in the deep
Someone reached in and grabbed it
It was a rock lobster

Rock Lobster!!!
Rock Lobster!!!

We were at the beach
Everybody had matching towels
Somebody went under a dock
And there they saw a rock
It wasn't a rock
It was a rock lobster

Rock Lobster!!!

((High Pitched)) Rock Lobster!!!

Commotion in the ocean
His air hose broke
Lots of trouble
Lots of bubble
He was in a jam
Said the giant clam!!!

Rock, Rock

Rock Lobster!!!
Down, down...

Underneath the waves
Mermaids wavin'
Wavin' to mermen
Wavin' sea fans
Sea horses sailin'
Dolphins wailin'

Rock Lobster!!!

((High Pitched)) Rock Lobster!!!

Red snappers snappin'
Clam shells clappin'
Muscles flexin'
Flippers flippin'

Rock, Rock

Rock Lobster
Down, down...

Lobster... Rock
Lobster... Rock

Let's rock!!!

Boy's and bikinis
Girls and surfboards
Everybody's rockin'
Everybody's frugin'

Twistin' round the fire
Havin' fun

Bakin' potatoes
Bakin' in the sun

Put on your noseguard
Hit on the Lifeguard
Pass the tanning butter

Here comes a stingray
There goes a mantaray
In walked a jelly fish
There goes a dogfish
Chased by a catfish
In flew a sea robin
Watch out for that piranha
There goes a narwhal
HERE COMES A BIKINI WHALE
ROCK LOBSTER
ROCK LOBSTER
ROCK LOBSTER

No, Orange Kitty (someone name this poor thing), they are not all gonna be for you!

Add mayo and ranch dressing to taste!

Season salt and Walla!

-------------------

The story of Walla!

My niece came over and after she would accomplish/finish something she would mutter the word, "Walla!", I listened to this for a while until I asked her what she meant....

She swung her head to one side, raised her palms to the sky and said something like.....

"You know, it means that you are finished! WALLA!"

I thought for a second and wondered what the French would think.....

Voila! :D

But I like crab rolls, need anymore help with the pit, the clams have been washed and the corn has been husked and I'm just waiting to put the lobsters in the pot.

If you run out of clams, call my brother in Rhode Island - he digs them for spare change. Now these are the hard shelled kind - Little Necks and the like. Not the soft shelled for steaming.

There is nothing better in this world than to walk on the beach, dig up a clam, open and eat it right there. That is HEAVEN!!

 Clams and bloody mary's!!! I'm in! :D
Make my mary hot of course, and perhaps we can saute a few of those clams with a garlic butter sauce. Some chili crab, could also work, and if Richard can wrap up some fruit (pineapple works well) with lobster tails in banana leaves before going in the coals, we should have quite feast. Now a Claire Valley Riesling will wash everything down well, or those who have a palate with a need for something more intense, I would suggest a Hunter Semillon.
............drools............... (I'm going to have to blame that drool on possum)

Don't worry! I'm not on a diet!!! But everything you eat makes up your diet and since onion rings aren't supposed to be good for you, I used it in my little poem! :D

Now give them back!!! :D

Sorry Connie I ate your share of onion rings :p (Well I had one and I was planning to fed the rest to orange kitty but Mario stole them! Naughty Mario! )

Oh my Dog, Connie! You've got me cracking up here.
I love onion rings, too.
As for clams, I'll pass on those. Okay, I'll admit I've never had clams but the look of them....I'll pass! You can give me a nice order of shrimp and crablegs, though! YUM.

P.S. I make "the best" onion rings with purple onions. MMMMM!

OMGosh, :( did I miss out on the whole clambake???
I've been preoccupied with a sick dog all week, and have not been doing my usual cruising the PT threads. And I'm living in the middle of clambake heaven, there's even big professionally catered ones here. I'll bet Thursdays was lots more interesting.
I'm too tired to think of anything to say. "I'll be back"

I think that we should name our nameless orange kitten here in the bar, Pippin Jnr, or perhaps just Pip? What do you think?
