Hello everyone! We're staying at sirrahbed's house right now, and they've had a "garden cat" visiting their house for the past two weeks. She's declawed and has been wandering the neighborhood. We asked around all at all of the neighbors and no one knows where she came from or who she belonged to. So... SHE'S COMING HOME WITH ME! We're so excited. So, now what you're wating for... pictures!

We've tentatively decided on Hazelnut, but anyone else have a food themed name suggestion?

She looks delicious... how about Mary See (of See's Candies)? :D

Or maybe a spice name: Cinnamon, Cardamom, Fenugreek, Coriander...

We've tentatively decided on Hazelnut

This is not a bad choice either. Lisa from Arizona had a Hazel a few years back. She was a lovely cat, just like this gal is.

Aww, she's adorable!! How bout sticking with the M theme? Marmalade (not sure if I spelled that right) or Molasses. I got those becuase of her brown coloring. I know those are the greatest names, but they just popped into my head. I love thinking of names, so I will try to think of some more M food names that would suit her (looks at least).

Hi, Hazelnut! Welcome to Pet Talk! You are BEAUTIFUL!

Edit: Hi, Gingersnap! (To Gingersnap's Mom - I think I like Gingersnap better than Hazelnut.)

Yes, she is a beauty isn't she? As of this moment, they are calling her Gingersnap but this changes every few minutes :D I was thinking "Sweetpea" since she came from our garden ;) Lilac? Columbine? Peony? Forsythia? Petunia?

We have her set up in a cage with food, water, litter and a hammock hanging from the top. I just looked in at her and she was "upstairs" in the hammock. She is a purr machine and a talker.

When we returned from Texas two weeks ago, she was waiting on our front porch and has been living out under our lilac bush. So, I am feeling like she came to the right place since Devon (sirrahved) and Jason were due to visit and leave for their first church call in Nebraska next Sunday.

So, as of tomorrow morning, she will go *POOF*. :D

I like the name Ginger.

Silly name, Nutella, but I thought of hazelnuts and chocolate, and instantly thought of that yummy stuff in a jar that I'm allergic to! :p

Or you can call her Marzipan. Ever have a Mozart ball??? They have marzipan and pistachio filling and dark chocolate on the outside??

I'm so in the candy mood today!

She is so lovely and declawed? She use to belong to somebody at some point... wonder if she was dumped.... or just didn't like it at home anymore? Lucky she picked the siirrah household to hang out at, that shows she is also SMART!

She's beautiful. I like Hazelnut, Ginger, and even Mochalatte, or some variant. Cinnamon?

Her coloring reminds me of Rocky Road ice cream.

Anyway, it never ceases to amaze me that cats find their way to friendly homes. Are they telepathic or do they mark the place as cat-friendly? Perhaps pheromones left by our critters that we cannot smell?

Do dogs do the same?

Anyone read the The Cat Who... series?

She's beautiful! I like Hazelnut as she has a slightly mischievous look in her eye - the "nut" part :) and her fur is the color of Hazelnuts

Yes, I suspect she must have been dumped or abandoned - though nobody has recently moved from this neighborhood. She is declawed on all four paws and sweet as she can be. She has not once hissed or growled - just begs for affection and purrs. She loves to have her belly rubbed and when hubby and I have been sitting out on our porch, she jumps into our laps or sprawls out next to our rocking chairs. Her fur is shiny soft and she appears healthy. So somebody must have loved her. Sirrahved is taking her to the vet tomorrow to be scanned for a microchip and then checked for FeLk.

She devoured food as soon as we put it out. I had not fed her previously because I was thinking she was another visiting kitty as we often have here. She is a sweetheart that is for sure. I bet she will make a purrfect companion for Marshmallow. Oh yes and she does not seem to be at all afraid of dogs so she has been around them before. That is a plus since she will have two border collie siblings :)

Do ya'll consider her a calico? We started talking about this since we just assumed she was calico and female. We just took a peek at her backside and it appears to be girly. The fur is not really orange or maybe appears darker because it is mixed in with all the black.

It's hard to tell by those pics, but she looks like a tabby and white. She's got an M on her forehead, and that's a typical tabby mark. She's pretty no matter what she is! Tabby and tortie mixes are called Torbies... Not sure what a Calico and Tabby mix is called??

she's gorgeous!
She looks a lot like Logan's dear Mimi, I think.
The name hmmmm
the only "gardeny" name that comes to mind, is simply
"Flower" - one of my childhood friends had a white cat named
that. :)

She was Nutella last night and Iris this morning :) When we were leaving our garage, she would appear from my iris bed. If she does end up being a he, the name will be Graham Cracker. (to go with Marshmallow & also the name of the other Lutheran pastor in their new town)

Anyway, she is now on her way to Indiana and will head out to Nebraska this weekend. As the kids left, I was thinking it felt good to be sending them off with a piece of my garden :( :)

Hazelnut is a good one.
The first pic showing her back made me think of S'mores, but the brownish...maybe Toffee.

I've always wanted to name a girl Chrysanthemum after the children's book character. She was a mouse but I loved saying the name, lol. *Chrysanthemum, Chrysanthemum, Chrysanthemum

I like Pawla too since she's completely declawed.

I think cats have the feline equivalent of the old hobo code, which would tell following wanderers where it was safe to ask for food, shelter, etc., and what places were off-limits.

Feline Leukemia and AIDS negative! An untraceable chip, pretty bad case of ear mites.

Female, so the name is...

IRIS!

This morning when mom said she always came out of the iris bed Jason and I thought Iris just had to be it. I now am the proud meowmie of one very grumpy cat! Not that I blame her, of course. This has been a crazy couple of days for her!

She was someone's sweetheart at one time. I can't say that I am not happy that her microchip was untraceable and that none of the neighbors knew who she was. I think she appeared at this yard so she could become a sirrahkitty!! Now, I can see pictures of her and hear about her adventures.

What do the dogs and Marsha think so far? :)

sirrahved
06-20-2007, 02:29 PM
She's hidden VERY well. The dogs were unphased when they met her. She hissed a little because they were jumping around like we had left them at the vet's for 5 days. Marsha didn't see her, or didn't care.

Aw! Welcome home Iris! That's curious about the chip - I thought they all were registered in a big cyber database somewhere. Very strange. Do they ever reprogram chips once they've been installed?

actually from what I've read - there are 2 MICROCHIPPING companies and unless the shelter has BOTH readers they still may have a chip but it just can't be read by the shelter. This is one of the reasons why I've never had my crew chipped.

YAY!!! Another Kevin Henkes lover!! Chrysanthemum is one of my all time favorite kids' books by him. I love the video that Scholastic did of it too, cause the person who narrated did a great job with personalities and voices.
Remember the line "A Chrysanthemum is a flower. It lives in the ground with worms and other dirty things." What a brat that kid was, lol. I love being a middle school librarian, but boy do I miss those picture books!!

As a mythology buff, I'm pleased to report that Iris is a Greek name, meaning "rainbow." The Goddess Iris was the messenger of Hera, Queen of the Gods, and has been described as swift, cheerful, dedicated, and intuitive. Here's a link to a lovely modern statue of the Greek Goddess Iris.
