Poor guy :( . I hope someone adopts him in time.:( :( :(

pupper-lover, it's really not likely. There are just so many on the GSD boards that are posted, but can't be saved. Just this week, some were rescued some were not, but there are two in particular that didn't make it out. It really weighs on my mind. Those faces, the fear.....:(

Over 10 years ago, on a visit to the local Humane Society, I was told by the head dog keeper that 7 of 10 dogs got adopted, except for the GSD's, which only got adopted at the rate of 3 out of 10.
Due to bad breeders and bad owners, the GSD's have suffered so much - my heart breaks for those pups that deserve so much better.

Good luck, aly. Is there a GSD rescue there that might take him??
Karen
07-18-2002, 10:27 PM
Oh, Aly, please do! At least let them know that people care! That poor dog, it is NOT his fault, but his people's, that he got heartworm.
I put in an email to the GSD rescue here and in Houston. I told them I'd take him until we could get a transport going. I also said I'd pay for his medical treatment but it'd be hard for me to take a big dog with health issues long term right now because of my moving situation and all that stuff. I just pray he likes cats and dogs.

Yay! Thank you, Aly! Hope it works out!

Thank you, aly!! You are truly an angel. I hope it works, too. He has only till tomorrow (Friday) at noon!
There is Pam in Dallas who volunteered to possibly transport this weekend, if that would help.

It's fast approaching Noon EST here which means in a few hours it will be Noon in Texas.
Any news!?

Nooooo! Not yet. (fear!!) Someone on the GSD bb is trying to save him, too, now, because time is running out and we don't know if he is being pulled out or not. She lives in Oregon, however. We don't know if these efforts are working or not. I'll let you know if I hear anything on the GSD bb. Prayers, please.

For sure Sue!! I won't let up on the prayers!! We need a miracle here! Hang in there precious one.
They don't open until 11:30 so I can't go get him until then. I haven't heard back from the GSD rescues.

07-19-2002, 10:54 AM
Thank you, aly, for all your efforts!!! A rescue in Austin is also being contacted by the GSD bb. Hopefully Tammy can do something, too. This is toooo scary!

Aly, Just say that if you get the GSD out - would it be possible to board him someplace for awhile (I would send some $$ to help out)? I realize you have enough going on with out trying to board another dog at the moment.
Sudilar
07-19-2002, 11:43 AM
Aly, there is an interested party on the GSD bb. Is he good with dogs, cats and livestock?? She's in Oregon.
One area GSD rescue did not pick up two dogs from Harris like they said they would and now the dogs are being killed today, too. There is also one in Montgomery. The rescue contact (Tammy) would love to help, but can't.

The shelter just called me and left a message because I couldn't get to the phone fast enough and I called back and she said that someone had come in to rescue him so Sam is safe. She did, however, point out that people "get miopic" about dogs and she just HAD to say that 20 dogs had died this morning and 20 more are set to die tomorrow. She said they have about 300 dogs there right now.
Anyway, the good news is Sam was rescued today.
Sue,
I'm really really sorry. I got there at 11:30 and looked for him everywhere. I gave the people his animal number and they told me his cage # but he wasn't there. I'm sorry. I wish I had known even a day earlier. I hope someone came to get him. I really really hope so.
I feel so guilty. I'm sorry :(
Oh thank God!
I couldn't stop crying thinking it was my fault he died. I'm so glad someone got him. They must've been walking out with him right when i was walking around all the hundreds of cages.
All the sad faces are haunting me. I am seriously considering going to bust one out of there. I can't stand it.
DoggiesAreTheBest
07-19-2002, 01:07 PM
Aly, don't blame yourself! Sam is safe. Molly just verified that!
I cannot believe that 20 died today. It breaks my heart!
What has the world come to?! Those pups are now not suffering and feeling neglected and abandoned. May they all Rest In Peace!
They have 3 full time staff at that shelter who do nothing all day but put animals to sleep.
I was trying to find this little guy but didn't see him. I wonder if I should go back and ask??

What can I say??
Mugsy, they told you he was rescued???? Oh, happy day!! Aly, if he wasn't in the cage, then can we believe that they told mugsy the truth? I would like to believe that. Yes, Souraya, they do kill that many, sad to say. At our kill shelter (Killi and Shi's), Thursday is kill day. :(
I need to take a break right now. I've been on here back and forth all morning and I think my heart can't take it anymore. I will look for someone on the GSD bb for verification. Maybe one of the rescue groups came through.
You don't know how greatful I am for aly, mugsy and souraya for trying to aid in saving this poor unfortunate dog. I hope he has found a new forever home. Big hugs to you guys. My heart goes out to you. You are the BEST. Also thanks to all who prayed for the dog, too.

Aly, that pooch with some R&R will look just like Reece!
I would check up on him and see if he is still there. I need to go home and love on the Draker. Talking to the shelter in TX has brought my spirits down.

I'm not sure I believed her, but I'm with Sue, I'm choosing to believe her. Don't worry Aly, you did OK!! Sue, let us know what you find out. Oh, I asked the woman who answered the phone (who, was, really snotty) if Aly had adopted him and she said no, she knew who took him and it was NOT Aly.

I know what you mean. I was only doubting because the woman was so crappy to me on the phone. She had just left a message and said she didn't remember leaving it...very weird. She said she gets about 100 messages and day and can't remember who she's talked to and who she hasn't...I understand that, but geez lady it hadn't even been 30 seconds!! Oh well, I'll be thinking the good thoughts too. It depresses me to know how many perfectly wonderful animals go down everyday just because someone doesn't want to be bothered.
They are VERY mean at that shelter. City employees... not that all city employees are bad, but most of the people who work there aren't there because they love animals. Kathryn Sharp (who wrote that email about Sam) is nice but I can never find her. I went there to save Harley from death row and told them so and they were still very rude to me. All they want to do is sit on their bums and paint their nails.

May I please finish that sentence??? Well, on second thought, I'd better not...this is a family forum.
We have some rude ones at our shelter too. The stress of the job must get to them.

I don't know Sue, I was always taught that when you get a job you do it professionally and that means not getting nasty with someone even if you're having a bad day. I agree with Kim...mean people do suck.

OK, all. I got the word:
Regarding the original dog in the post...he has been pulled by Austin GSD Rescue and I believe is already on his way to his forever home.
This is from Tammy, a reliable source.
Souraya, the one in Montgomery can only be saved by a rescue. There are some silly rules that really do hurt the dog's chances of being adopted.
Now I can breathe again!

Thanks Sue!! I appreciate the update. I'm glad that he got a forever home so quickly. My heart just hurts for those who aren't so lucky.
I went back to see the injured Poodle. He's in desperate need of help. Someone there told me he doesn't like cats though. I am trying to find a rescue to take him ASAP!
I got to see this little guy go home while I was there:

Here's the latest on Sam:
"Yes, Sam really got out alive and from what I hear was an ABSOLUTE DOLL of a dog...sweetheart to the bone of course."
WooHoo! I believe in miracles!
Another GSD bb person called the shelter and they told her he was taken by a rescue. (more proof)
So we really can believe it!!
Aly, I hope you can find that little guy some help, the poor pup.
The one you saw adopted was adorable!
Thanks, again, guys for all your help!
Yay for Sam. I'm so glad he got out :)

Sue and Aly,
Hi. I came across this GSD Rescue in the Dallas Morning News;
http://www.campwolfgang.org and also a story about the
wonderful man who founded it & why. His story is at;
http://www.dallasnews.com/localnews/index.html#columnists?2
Then click on columnist Jacquielynn Floyd story.
There are some great pictures of some fabulous GSDs. Liz & Bud.

Liz,
Thanks for the info on that wonderful angel!!
I am looking for someone to rescue this poor innocent GSD from Henderson, NC kill shelter. The GSD rescues out there are full up with litters of pups and have no room for him. He has such a haunting face. I e-mailed this wonderful person you just posted about to see if he has some connections in NC to possibly save this pup. Maybe your posting this is fate and he can do something to save little Amos:

Sue,
Amos looks so cute, like a baby Buddy. :) It doesn't hurt to
try , We never know when that right someone will see a pic
or read a story and make a match with one of these beautiful
dogs. Sue, I had to change the 2nd link to get to the story
of Wally Swanson the founder of Camp Wolfgang. His story
is worth the read. He's REAL people..... Liz & Buddy.

I e-mailed Ms. Floyd to thank her for publishing his wonderful and inspiring story. I wish I had the $$$$ to do what he is doing!!! All I can do is post the innocent pups or dogs that REALLY haunt me. There are just certain ones that can't be ignored. Mr. Swanson is wonderful. BTW, my first GSD was also named Wolfgang!!!!! and that's where the love of the breed comes to me from, too. What a coincidence!!
I'll go check out the links now Liz! Thanks for sharing :)
