Pharlap, you sure are handsome. You look as if you have a bit of blue heeler in your ancestry. I'm interested in how you got your name. Phar Lap was the name of a famous australian racehorse. Only the spelling is slightly different.
I'm glad that such a good-looking dog with the name of a famous racehorse has become Dog of the Day.

Pharlap, I too am interested in your name as it is so unusual. And you sweet pup have an angel who has guided you to the most wonderful family. I am so happy you settled into your rightful home so you can be all the dog that you were meant to me, one glorious, lovable, kind, and smart fellow. Congratulations on the top honor of being DOG OF THE DAY.

You probably are going to be a big boy if you're already 75 pounds! If you have 3 big breeds in you, that's not a surprise! You almost look like you are part Elkhound.

As Pharlap's "Mama", I can, with authority, say that he indeed was named after the famous Aussie race horse Phar Lap, which was a slight misspelling of the aboriginal word for "lightning"...
Thank you everyone for your kind words about my beautiful baby. I actually submitted that photo of him 4 months ago, so he is now 11 months old and over 90lbs....and in a scraggly summer stage of coat blowing. But beautiful nonetheless.

Thank you, Pharlap's Mama, for telling us about the origin of the handsome Pharlap's name. That's so amazing that a doggie from Arkansas (USA) is named after a famous Australian racehorse called Phar Lap. Phar Lap visited & raced in the US in something like 1932! His only race was in California. Phar Lap died there, unfortunately. Phar Lap is still remembered & loved in this country.
I'm sure that the doggie Pharlap will be loved for a long, long time, too...just like his namesake.

you know, i had been thinking the same thing. if it weren't for those distinctive markings on the face, i defintly would have thought wolf mix. very beautiful dog no matter which way you look at it.
i didn't say anything, since some people are sensitive about things like that.

Hmmm....I plead the fifth! All I can say is that the truck driver handed me a neatly folded piece of paper when I accepted Pharlap from him....and your average mutt doesn't come with "papers"...... Not that any of that means much to me...I knew he was coming home with me the moment I saw him...
Besides, the "papers" don't do him much good now that he's "snipped".... http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/rolleyes.gif

Pharlap, my sweet malamutt (malamute/husky/GSD mix) is in a contest sponsered by Heinz products, to promote their new dog treat product 'Nawsomes.
He's currently in third place...wouldn't you like to see a former DOTD win big??? If Pharlap is in first or second place in his category on Sept. 21st, he's named as a semi-finalist in the contest, and receives a years supply of 'Nawsomes dog treats, and I receive a video camera to take video footage of him for the final round of the competition that takes place later this year. Thank you so much for your votes!!
You can vote for Pharlap at:
Vote For Pharlap!!! (http://www.thinktreats.heinzpetproducts.com/nawsomes/_pages/view/entry_list.asp?Categoryid=1)
or, if that doesn't work,
Vote For Pharlap!!! (http://www.thinktreats.heinzpetproducts.com/nawsomes/_pages/view/)
Pharlap is in the "Catch" Category.
