WAY to funny Gary! That is how it is at my house too but since they are here more than I am, the counters are theirs and I am allowed to use it now and then.

Uh-huh, it's definitely selective hearing. Pretty dishes, by the way!

Churchill had the same rule. Once when I was cat-sitting, I popped open the Fancy Feast can on the kitchen counter - and the rascal hopped right up on the counter to supervise my preparation of his meal! Such a boy. I gave him a kiss on his little tabby head, put his dish in its place and he jumped right down to eat. I'm sure he's tormenting the chefs in kitty heaven even today.

At my house the "official" rule is that the cat is not allowed on the dinette table. The general rule is that I try to keep her off the table except when there is food on it, which is about 1/2 hour out of every day. The working rule is that she gets her own dish, especially when we're talking about the milk in the cereal bowl or chicken from a Chinese take-away. No sticking her nose in mine when my back is turned. I say, "Cassie, get down!" and she just looks at me. I swear if she could talk she would say, "Why? You're going to share it with me anyway."

Um, Gary, never mind putting your FOOT down; PUT THE DISH DOWN!

You can't expect us to smell it and not want it NOW!!! IMMEDIATELY! INSTANTLY! :D
