Hot Spots on Chipper

This morning while petting Chipper Andy noticed some hair loss on Chipper's neck. We took off his collar, pulled back the folds of skin, and found this:

Two seperate areas of hair loss. No where else on his body is like this.

We see him scratching occasionally here and there (mostly his sides) but didn't think it was anything to be alarmed about. These are what you would consider hot spots, right?

He's on such a special diet, what could he possibly be allergic too? Could something he got at the Dog Park have caused a reaction that fast? He's fine otherwise. Eating, drinking, playing. I couldn't find any parasites on him. I've been putting hydrocortizone cream on the area. He's been leaving it alone (when we're around).

Has he been wet at all, like swimming or a recent bath? That is what causes Nebo's hot spots. If he doesn't get dried thoroughly the moisture gets trapped near his skin and causes an irritation. I imagine the folds of Chipper's neck would also trap moisture. Hot spots can be caused by a variety of things though. I have some hot spot spray from Petco I use for Nebo and it works pretty well. Hope Chipper gets feeling better soon!

It may just be his collar rubbing his excess skin?
I know that Shar Pei get awfully smelly and icky in their skin folds - maybe Chip has some Shar Pei in him?????

He avoids water like the plague and I haven't bathed him recently, but I wondered if somehow moisture got trapped in those folds of skin. Dog's can't sweat, right? :confused:

We have some hot spot spray here, but the area looks so inflamed and irritated I worried it might sting. I'll see if that helps though. :)

It is highly likely that moisture from the humidity of Sunday's weather - or he could have gotten splashed when he was trying to get a drink at the Dog Park, as that happened several times to other dogs that I witnessed!

Poor Chip - he had a busy, busy day, didn't he?

I'm sure with as much food (and water melon rines :D ) that were passed out on Sunday that he could have snatched one he wasn't supposed to get!!

Could it be possible that a bug got stuck in the fold of his skin and caused that??

I stopped by the vets while taking them for a walk and had a vet tech take a look at it. It's definitely a hot spot, but the cause remains unknown. Could of been a bug or moisture.

I don't think he ate something he shouldn't have. He's never had an itchy reaction.... just a bad tummy ache.

The tech suggested I shave away the hair around the area and keep applying hydrocortizone cream and to also put an antibacterial salve on it. It doesn't seem to be bothering him, so hopefully it'll heal up soon. :)

I think it's probably a bug bite that he just started to itch. I belive that happened to my dog once. When he finally quit scrating the hotspot it started to heal. Before finally healing though, it did scab over. Luckily he didn't continue to scratch at that point.

My one golden Chance always has hot spot problems and I use alot of different things on his and a big thing that helps is when I cut his hair/fur where the hot spot is ( after im done cutting the hair he has bold spots and it looks really on a golden but oh well). alot of different creams help also any anti itch creams really help whether its made for humans or pets.

I'm so proud of my Chipper boy. I took him into the bathroom and got him to roll over for me. I let him sniff the clippers and then I turned them on so he could hear them. He didn't flinch so I put them to his skin and he just stretched his neck out so I could shave the spot. I bet it felt good. I washed the area and slathered on anti-itch cream.

It should be healed in no time. :)
