I sent this out to my cat rescue friends and thought I might share it here as well. It would be cool to rescue a PT pup (or two)

I know we have a vast network here so I thought I'd put out feelers early. My sister in law is moving in with us this summer - possibly toward the end of July. She REALLY wants a dog, preferably a puppy (*groan*). We are ok with that, but it has to be a small dog. Any of you out there know of a small breed in need of a good home?

My sister in law will not be working, maybe only a few part-time hours in the fall. She has some "issues" --- she has in inoperable brain tumor that causes bad migraine headaches and depression.

Dogs with big grooming responsibilities are a-ok, she's has long haired dogs in the past and knows the work involved. She's thought of perhaps Pom or maltese, shi-tzu, etc.

If I find the right dog (or dogs, bonded pairs will work out better for me, shhh don't tell hubby I mentioned that) we will take the dogs before she even moves back to Pennsylvania.

Of course, it goes without saying, we need a dog that is great with cats! I have my 5 plus her 2 are coming with her. this pup will also have to be gentle with older dogs, as Miss Nicki will NOT be appreciative of a small dog in her home. She's is T-E-R-I-F-I-E-D of small dogs (was once attacked viciously by a yorkie - big wimp! ). The transitition will not be fun on Nicki's part :( We also have a 1 year old baby in the house, so whatever pup will need to be good with children. Should I mention my house is an active place?

Anyone know of a dog that meets these requirements? I don't think the search will be easy, which is why I'm, starting now.

PS: She's moving from Florida, so maybe we could arrange a way for her to pick up the dog somewhere between here and t here if one pops up!

There are a lot of rescues here in Atlanta and I will keep my eyes open. Georgia is kinda on the way towards PA so maybe something will come open and be a perfect fit!

I'll keep my eyes peeled,
Ashley

Please check Petsinc.org. They are in Columbia, SC and often have small adult dogs. It would definitely be on the way to Pennsylvania. They are located just off an interstate.

If they see one they definitely want, I could foster until she drives through. ;)

He might not be as cute as some of the others we saw tonight... Ashley is beggin me to get this girl, but she won't fit in as well.

I know.... she said she wants one about 8 pounds. Then she says she wants a Sheltie. Last I checked they are a little bigger than 8 pounds (yes I know a smaller sSheltie can run you about 15 pounds, most I've seen are 25-40 pound)

Then she says she doesn't want a puppy... so I show her young dogs at about 2 or 3 years old. No, they're too old. She wants one around 9 months old. And exactly how is that not a puppy? Her answer, "well, they are 7 years old on their first birthday". Huh?!?!

I'm not quite sure WHAT she wants.

Oh dear, this is gonna be a long hunt!

I emailed her this pup this afternoon

I know she's older, but she kinda LOOKS like a Sheltie and is in her size range! LOLOLOLOL

ummm, I hate to say this Kim, but "bells and whistles" are going off!! Someone should KNOW what they want before they go and get it. My suggestion>> DO NOT get her a dog! If she wants one, PLEASE allow her to be the one to decide on it, to find it, and to make arrangements to get it.........otherwise YOU wil have a new dog and she'll be out looking for the "RIGHT" one.

Oh Jen, you misunderstood.... she WILL be the one to ultimately pick it. I'm not looking to add to my personal pet familt right now. I can barely afford the ones I've got! (which reminds me, since next month has 3 pay days in the month, I'm getting everyone's yearly done all in one week. Should be a fun week of carting cat carriers and a scardey dog)

good luck in searching for her - I just have to say Kuduos to you for allowing 2-3 MORE animals into your house! not many people would do that! :p
