urine problem??

this morning one of my sibes passed some greenish stuff/ liquid in her urine , shes 11 yrs old & on meds for her arthritis , not sure whether to inform vet or not :confused: :confused:

That I would do. I would not hurt. it is best to be on the safe side.

You need to get the dog to the Vet ASAP for a liver blood panel. Green urine is frequently caused by an elevated level of bilirubin, a protein that keeps the intestines alkaline, and is broken down by the liver before being excreted in the urine. High concentrations leading to green urine can be indicative of impaired liver function. Most of the NSAIDs given to treat arthritis have the capability to cause liver side effects- so there could be a cause and effect relationship. If the Vet discovers elevated liver enzymes, then s/he will probably withdraw the dog from the arthritis medication until the liver returns to normal. Possibly switch to another NSAID, or give the current one less often when medication is resumed. Again the only way to know for sure is to get a blood panel run. But don't ignore this warning sign. It's better than taking a chance of risking liver failure.

Thanx folks , when i called my vety yesyerday she said she wasn't too concerned at present but if it carries on send in a urine sample for testing on, she also said it could be from where suka hadn't weed for a while :confused: not too sure about that one as she can get outside nearly always , anyway suka has just finished the 4 week course of CARTROPHEN injections , it may be that which has caused this green colour, it was only a small amount of green liquid in her pee but i will be keeping an eye on this, thanx again. ;)
