Prayers for Pepper

Pepper is currently undergoing surgery on her tail.

At about 6:00 p.m. she came running up to me in the garage and most of her tail is gone! :eek: Just a bloody stump was left. We rushed her to the vet and they need to remove more bone so that there is enough skin left to sew together and cover the stump.

Please pray that Pepper survives the surgery. The vet is very aware of her heart condition and will be very careful on the amount of anesthesia they give her, but things can still happen.............

The vet believes that it was severed -- not torn off like from a dog or something. We are looking all over the garage and house for her tail, but haven't found it yet.

I remember when K & L's cat Mouser lost part of his tail and they didn't know how it happened. They later found out that their paper cutter got him. Do you have a paper cutter or saws that would be out in the garage?

We don't have a paper cutter. We do have saws and a shredder, though. We checked them and found nothing. We will check more closely tomorrow.

The vet called. Pepper has made it through surgery. They are monitoring her to see how she wakes up. Her heart has not stopped, so that is a good sign. We will call them again in a few hours.

Oh my, I am just seeing this thread! I am so sorry to hear of Pepper's accident. I am glad that she is out of surgery and doing well. Please keep us posted! Many prayers coming from me and the girls in Indiana.

Pepper had a good night. She slept and ate and peed normally. We got the pain medicine and antibiotic down her this morning with minimum fuss.

She's mad (or embarrased) so she won't look at the camera, but I got a few photos this morning. Thanks for all your good wishes.

My very first "official" rescue was Peeka whose entire tail had to be amputated except for a very small stub. She came through it just fine and I know Pepper will be fine, too, sweet baby.

Poor Pepper!! What a horrible accident!! It must have been such a shock to see her coming home without a tail! But I'm glad she's made it through the surgery and is doing well.

She is as feisty as ever. She has an amazing fighting spirit. Nothing gets her down for long.

She supervised us with yardwork yesterday. She was not happy about it, but she was tethered to a clothesline, safe in her Walking Jacket (http://www.hdw-inc.com/walkingjackets.htm)

We continue to search our garage and have not found the rest of her tail. I can't figure out how, but she must have gotten outside and had her unfortunate accident somewhere else. :confused:
