Hi, I'm so mad at myself right now. I accidently forgot to close and seal the lid to Storm's food container so it was just lying on top of the container on Sunday night. I came out on Monday morning and noticed that the lid had been knocked off and was on the floor. The container was still in it's place so I was hoping that none of the cats had tried to eat any of the food.
Starr must have eaten some of it because while he was eating back in my bedroom on Monday morning, he made several piles of very mushy poo on my carpet. I've also noticed some pancakes in the litterboxes and he had another accident on the kitchen rug and dining room rug some time yesterday and another accident back in bedroom tonight. They've all been mushy poo. I e-mailed his vet to ask her what I should do if anything. He now seems to be back to square one and he was doing so well. I can't believe I let this happen and I hope he'll get back to normal quickly. Please send Starr some positive vibes. Thanks for reading this.

Awww, Starr.
You'll get back to feeling better soon, if you stick with your special food.

This shouldn't be too much of a problem, Tracey. Just make sure he continues to get HIS food for the next few days and I'm sure he'll get back to normal.
About two weeks ago CJ started having totally liquid diarrhea again and I freaked! I couldn't figure out how in the world that happened when nothing in his diet had changed! I continued to feed him as normal, making sure that ALL he got was his regular food. About 3 days later his poos were back to normal so I figured whatever he got into just had to make it through his system. Hopefully the same is true for Starr. :)

Thanks everyone.:) Starr seems a bit better today and so far so good. My vet e-mailed me back to say that these things happen and he should be back to normal within a week and to keep giving him the same dose of meds. She also said that I'm doing a great job.:) Now I double check to make sure that the all of the lids are on tight so that this won't ever happen again.;)

Oh Tracy, don't blame yourself, these things can happen.
That's for sure. We've all done it, with different cats and ailments, but still.
I now keep the cat foods (all of them) in a closet with a knob (not a slider door, they figured THAT out), in a container with an air tight seal, with the twist tie on the bag or the zip lock closed on the bag. THREE levels of cat security. And I STILL catch cats sitting staring at that closet door pondering break ins!
It takes a while for me to get the food OUT at meal times, but so be it.
Best wishes, Starr!

Tracey,
It's good to hear that things are on the mend. Don't blame yourself now - we all know you're the best mommy and want all that's good for your baby-kids. Starr will feel better and so will you :)
Hugs to all and please enjoy a very special Meowmie's Day - you certainly deserve it :D

What do you mean by saying, "I can't believe I let this happen." Lets get one thing straight here missy, you did not LET it happen!!!! It was an honest mistake that anyone of us could have done. You're a fabulous cat meowmie and don't you ever forget it.
I'm sure in a few days, once the other food is out of his system, he will be back to making tootsie rolls for you.
Starr, don't be such a piggie and go stealing Storm's food again. Meowmie had enough worries about you, she doesn't need anymore.

Tigris had some attacks of diarrhea in the last weeks and the vet has also put him on Royal Canin Sensitivity Control- which works out well.
She has said that when he gets some other food (and I tell you it is VERY difficult to keep him away from Filou's kidney diet, especially the dry food) it's good to have him not eat for a day (ok half a day- I cannot resist longer).
With this we have it fairly under control now.
Hope Starr is fine again soon :) Poor boy must have been so proud when he managed to steal Storm's food.

Thanks again everyone.:) Starr now seems to be back to his old self and I haven't noticed any diarrhea or mushy poos since Sat. He hasn't had any more accidents since Sat. morning so I think it's safe to say that the food is now out of his system.:)
I have to feed Starr back in my bedroom so he won't get into the others food and I can't let him back out until the others have finished. I also have to make sure that no crumbs are left behind. Starr loves to eat and he sniffs around as soon as he gets out to see if he can find more food. I wish that he could understand that eating his siblings food will make him sick again.

Tracey, I can't imagine how hard this is for you, feeding Starr seperately from the others. I have never had more than two cats at one time, and thankfully, I've always been able to free feed them.
I hope Starr will continue on his good path now. :)

Well Starr is still not doing well.:( He's still having accidents and they are diarrhea or very mushy poo.:( Yesterday was a good day and I thought that he was finally over his tummy upset but this wasn't the case. I was letting Sunny out of my room at 5am this morning and I noticed that Starr had made several piles of diarrhea in the hallway and some more in the dining room.:(
I had already e-mailed his vet on Tues. night and she wants to see him for a recheck. She works from Sun.-Wed. and I was able to make an appointment for this Sun. at 9am. I just don't understand why he's not recovering and doing so poorly again.:( He's also getting much harder to pill so my vet said that his meds could be compounded into a tasteless liquid form. I hope that this will help. I'm sure it'll cost more but it'll be worth it if it will help him. I wonder if he needs a larger dose now that he's gained some weight back. This may be the reason why the 5mg dose isn't working as well. Please send some positive vibes his way. I'll update you some time on Sunday after his appointment. Thanks.:)

Gosh, poor Starr and poor you! I really hope the vet can figure out why he's not improving. Perhaps, like you said, now that he has more weight on him he just needs a larger dose of meds. Good thoughts coming your way! I hope he gets better soon, I know how frustrating that must be for you.

Sending lots of positive thoughts for poor Starr! After so many days, I don't think it's coming from the food he ate the other day that he had a relapse. Maybe he would really need a larger dose of his meds.
Best wishes to him!

well see, it's not your fault - if it was the loose lid the other day, why is he keep doing this?
poor starr, I could sympathize you! exactly same thing happened to my crayola in past few days and now he's resting very well. you must be so frustrated.
maybe try water with some salt, that's what the vet recommended me - I did asked him about my concern for cats too because they share same waterbowls - he said it should be no problem. and it seems had helped crayola a lot.
and try some pumpkin as fasting?
wishing you all the best and hopefully by now starr feels better!

Thanks everyone.:) He had another diarrhea episode this morning.:( He's also always hungry and will cry for his feedings more so than he ever did before because he's pooping out almost everything he eats.:( My vet said that she will most likely have to adjust the dose of his meds. I can't fast him because he has to take his meds with food. Now I really think that he may not have gotten into Storm's food after all and it was just a coincidence that the lid was knocked off and he then started having diarrhea again.:( Sunday morning can't come fast enough for me. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks.:)

Hi and thanks again everyone for keeping Starr in your thoughts and prayers.:) Starr had another fecal test done and a vet tech also took some blood to do a few other tests and I should know the results in about 3 days or so. I'm sure that his fecal test is normal and I should know the results today if the doctor isn't too busy.
Starr was very good but he bit me while I holding him for the fecal test. Luckily he didn't break my skin so I'll be fine. I'd be mad too if someone tried to put something up my red irritated bottom. He cried a little bit when the vet tech took his blood but then he calmed down and was very good. He now weighs 9.7lbs so he's gained even more weight since his last visit which was in April. He's about the same weight he was before he started getting sick so I'm very pleased with this.:)
He's now trying a new diet and the vet wants him to eat a higher protein diet so I'm trying Innova Evo dry and wet. I can also cook chicken or turkey for him too and give him some of this. My vet also said that Eagle Pack sells frozen pre-cooked meat and I could also use this but I have to use only chicken or turkey. I rarely cook so I need something that's quick and convienent. I think that there are some other brands of canned food that are also high in protein that I may try and if you know of any please let me know.
My vet wants him to continue with the same dose of meds but I had them both compounded into tasteless liquid so I hope that it'll be much easier for me to give these to him. He'll still be on 5mg of pred one time a day in the morning and 5mg of pepcid ac one time a day in the evening. I sure hope that this new diet works.
When I opened the Innova Evo bag all of my other cats wents nuts. I wouldn't mind feeding all of them this except that Storm needs to be on his prescription diet and he's allergic to fish and this has herring meal in it. If this diet does work out I may just end up feeding Storm back in my room and then I could feed the rest of them out in the kitchen and dining room area. Please continue to send some good vibes to Starr. Thanks.
Edit:I also forgot to mention that I noticed that one of Ziggy's eyes seems to have a larger pupil than the other one. It's her blue eye and I asked the vet about it and she said that there could be something wrong with her eye.:( She'll be going in some time next month unless I notice that it becomes worse. I sure hope that it's nothing serious. Please also keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks.

prayers continuing for little precious starr!
re: larger pupil, shouldn't be a problem. my eclypse is the same, in blue-est eye. :) I find that odd your vet says it's a problem. is it really big than usual - dilated?
