View Full Version : "Splash" is coming today

Splash is a two year old, female, Golden Retriever, who was taken in by Foothills Golden Retriever Rescue about a month ago. She was found, tied to a tree, left to die, with no food and no water. She was a very, very sick little lady, and has been in veterinary care for over a month now. I haven't seen a picture of her yet, but she will be coming here tonight, to stay with Helen and me until she is adopted. Our first permanent foster, and I am nervous about it. But they have reassured me that she is a perfect little lady, and will fit right in with my two other "perfect" girls. I do hope so.
I'll keep you posted!! Say a little prayer for her, if you will, that she finds the perfect "forever" home. Keeping her is not an option for me, no matter how precious she is. :)

You must be very anxious about her coming! I am sure your Golden girls will be nice to her and her stay with you will be a great one.
Hope she finds a good home soon!

I don't blame you for being nervous, I would be too. I just know she'll love your family and home and think of it as hers until she can find a forever home!

Heroine? No way......just trying to do my part. But I am extremely excited, and nervous, at the same time! My friend and I will be picking her up around 8 pm tonight, after I attend a meeting at church. Helen is soooooooo jealous that she is at her dad's house right now, but I think Splash will be here for a while until she is tested and worked with. I have my challenge ahead of me because I will be responsible for her training. But I'm ready, and it sounds like she is a real love. Can't wait to see her!! I'll fill you all in tomorrow, on how it goes. Thanks for the good thoughts. I'm sure they will help! :)

Good morning, everyone. We weren't able to get over to the lady's house to pick her up until around 8:25, so there was really no time for me to update you last night. She is adorable, and you would never know that she was on death's doorstep a short month ago. She is energetic, happy, hungry and very much the pleaser, but completely untrained. I'm pulling out my old puppy kindergarden papers today to refresh myself. We'll have fun. I am charged with teaching her "sit", "stay" and "heeling". She is a fast learner, treat driven, and I will enjoy working with such an enthusiastic dog, I'm sure. :D
Splash is definitely not a Golden Retriever, but they are calling her a Lab/Golden mix, as obviously the Golden Retriever Rescue group had quite a large heart to bring her in, just like they did Weston. She looks quite much like a Lab, but probably with a little something else added in. As soon as I have a picture, I will share her with you. She is small, even for a lab. And Angie (I Love Hounds) will appreciate this, if she reads it, Splash seems to have a little "hound dog" in her too, but she is lovely, just about the same color as yesterday's Dog of the Day, the yellow Lab.
Thanks for all your good wishes. Honey and Lilly did a thorough check over of Splash, as did Mimi and Butter. Everyone has been fine, although I have learned that Lilly has just had enough of these energetic dogs. She woke me up at least three times last night with a sharp warning bark to Splash to leave her alone. I will crate Splash in my room tonight. I was just too tired to even put the crate together last night. I'll keep you posted! :)

Logan, Splash sounds adorable. We need pictures please!!! :D Have fun with the training and don't forget to teach Down and Come. I personally think they are more important than heel. ;)

I knew I missed something, Candy! LOL!!! Of course, we will learn come, and if she is handling things ok, we'll do "down" as well. I just know from my issues with Honey that "down" isn't always good for a submissive dog, so we'll see how that goes. I don't think, based on my few hours with her, that Splash will be submissive like Honey once she gets comfortable here.
This is exciting!! :D

Waz everybody in the big bed last night????:D
Logan
07-11-2002, 02:02 PM
Not in MY big bed, Sammi!!! LOL!!!! I will admit that I let Weston sleep with me two nights last week, but Splash chose the kitchen floor and the big girls slept in the living room, as is normal for them in the summer time. If Helen isn't home, they aren't interested in the "big bed" and that's fine with me. I don't sleep well anyway, and I don't need the added distraction. :o

Logan, even though I'm a cat person, I think it's so exiting!! I'm glad they all get along. I'm sure you'll be able to train her well! Please keep us updated and post pics whenever you can - but get some sleep too!! :D

I can imagine Splash standing there feeling the eyes of scrutiny from all of the furry brood. Glad to hear that Butter behaved himself during the intro! :D Logan, you know we need PICTURES, PICTURES, PICTURES!! :D

LOL!!! You sillies!! My foster girl, Splash, is doing fine!!! :D She is just adorable. There is a commercial on tv that advertises some brand of toilet tissue, and the kids use it as bumper pads for an exuberant puppy, all legs, that comes flying through the kitchen. Have you seen it? That's Splash!! She looks like that, same coloring, is all legs, and my opinion is that there is no way she is two years old. She is adorable and so smart! We took her for her first leash walk last night, just around the short block, to get her accustomed to it. Butter, the cat, came with us. What a picture that would have made. We didn't try bringing any of the others along with us, and concentrated on Splash. I felt that she did pretty well for her first try. :)
This house is WILD right now! Not only is Splash here, but I'm testing a 12 year old Lab girl, Murphy, to see how she does with my cats and dogs, so I can babysit her when her dad is out of town next week. She has now spent two nights with me. She's the funniest one of all. He says she hasn't moved around this much in years! She is especially interested in Mimi and Butter, having never been around cats before. But, all in all, they are all doing beautifully. I have literally, a pile of dogs, on the floor beside me right now. All four of them are right here!!! LOL!!!! :D :D :D
Isn't Helen going to have fun, fun, fun when she gets home next Sunday? :D
Wish me luck!!!! :D

Logan, you are really something else! What a joy to share the planet with people like you and all you other PetTalkers! (And Dadcat wonders what a computer is good for - HA!!) I can just imagine the "pile of dogs" and yes, I have seen that commercial, and can see Splash in my minds eye perfectly, now!! All good wishes and legrubs from Grasshopper!

I'm cheating because of time limitations, but if you would like to see a picture of Splash, you can. I'll try and post it later.
Go to the Foothills Golden Retriever Rescue site at www.fhgrr.com and click on Available Goldens. You'll have to scroll way down....and on the way, you'll see lots of beautiful faces. Splash is the very last dog pictured under "available soon". I'm going to try and get a better picture of her later, but you will see what personality she has, when you see her in this picture!! :D
Enjoy!

Logan, I expected to see SPLASH all wet in her picture! LOL She is beautiful. She reminds me of a Golden I recently rescued and found a great forever home for. And by the way.... I fell in love with Quincy!!! He is sooooo Handsome. Someday when I get my kennel (a dream) I hope to have room for a lot more than my current two!
