Anybody know how to stop whining when riding in car. It doesn't seem to matter what I do, she whines all the way. (in a crate, or loose). Does anyone have ideas..She is a small rat terrier....

How old is she? How long have you had her?
I'd start her with small trips, just around the block, and work up to longer trips, just a few minutes longer at a time, spaced out over days. She's probably whining because she's anxious. Do ignore the whining, responding will just feed it more.

Bunny whines a lot in the car too. We have an electric training collar that we use on her. She usually gets the picture... But without it, she's awful noisy. Im not sure what to do with the smaller breeds... I know they do have small breed training collars... I guess the short trips around the block would work.

I don't know if this is an issue or not, but is she an "excited" pee'er?
We found that our foster dog (a husky) is. We finally correlated it with her whining in the vehicle. I didn't think she had to go since she'd go BEFORE we went for a ride. Nope she gets excited and has to go. So we now will drive for five minutes then let her go and she'll be fine for another 45 minutes. *shrug*
I had a Rat Terrier when i was young, but after a few trips and a bit of whining she was the perfect travel companion. :D
Then again, if she whined, danced around, or any mis behavior and we were right back in the drive way. She loved car rides and very quickly learned to sit very politely.
Some dogs get car sick very easily. Can your Rattie see out the windows? If not you way want to consider getting one of the padded doggy car/booster seats. It may help. She could just be whining due to motion sickness. Being able to see out helps prevent that.
G'luck!

Do what karen said and if she/he still whines after that she could be scared. For small dogs it could be scary sitting in something thats moving.

My moms dog whines alot in the car too, but after awhile we figured out that she was whining because she didn't like the air that was coming out of the vents. So we turned off the air conditioner and made it so there wasn't much air coming through the vent and then she stopped whining.:)

I would do as Karen suggested and take her for short trips around the block.. slowly increasing the time in the car.
Also, if it's not too much of a hassle, it may help to feed her in the car.. maybe even give treats or give her lots of attention. It'll help her associate the car with the things she loves.
