Guinea Pig Fan Club

I thought it was appropriate that as Blue Dragonfly started a Bunny fan club we should also have a Guinea Pig fan club as they are just as cute!!

So feel free to post pictures of your Squiggly Pigglies and chat about them in general.

Attached are my current two babies...Pooh (the mainly black one) and Piglet (the tan and black one). They are now 11 weeks old and are certainly developing their own little characters.....although the total opposite to their namesakes! Piglet is the curious, outgoing one and Pooh is the shy one...think I got their names round the wrong way!!

OK! Heres my Nut and Egg :)

Nut (black tan and white) is the outgoing one and she is always the boss!

Egg (brown, tan and white) is the shy one who gets bossed aroung by Nut!

They are sisters :)

How they got their names is a very long story so I wont go into that right now!

aahhhhh Nut and Egg are sooooo cute!! You do realise Ellie that you are gonna have to tell us the story about how they got their names now that you've mentioned it!!

ok... So basically my mums friends parents have like a guinea pig farm, it was almost my birthday and my mums friends parents were coming to England from Scotland because my mums friends were getting married. So it was near my birthday and I wanted 2 guinea pigs, we didnt know if they would be boys or girls so naming was a bit hard. So my dad (the master of names! :D) says what about Nut and Egg, I love it of course. Nut and Egg are the nicknames of my mums friends who are getting married and whose parents gave us the guinea pigs!

OK so on the practice of the wedding (I was a bridesmaid) the guinea pigs arrived and I picked them up one at a time. It was obvious Nut was the outgoing one and Egg was the quieter one. Nut (Catherine= the bride) made Egg (Greg= the groom) do a lot of the house work. So Nut (The guinea pig) was named after Catherine because shes the boss. Then Egg was named after Greg because she gets bossed around. :D

Ok the naming of the other guinea pigs! (Yes there are more! :eek: ) Ok so both Nut and Egg were pregnant when they came to us and we didnt know so my mum went out to see them in the day to find two big guinea pigs (Nut and Egg) and one little grey and white one (soon to be named Pepper). She was shocked and told me when I got home. There was only one baby, it was Eggs. That left Nut... we thought she was a boy! So my dad picked her up and realised she was pretty fat as well! We knew that she was also pregnant!

So time went by and I had a friend round (Lizzy) and we went to have our tea. We heard a very, very loud squeak! We both knew it was Nut. My mum said it was probs nothing but after tea we went outside to fine three little babies! Two of them grey and white and one a bit like Eggs colouring (although he was Nuts baby). You could tell the difference between the grey and white ones because one (later to be called salt) had a white stripe down her grey head, where as the other (later to be called Mustard) had an all grey head.

So we named them all foods just because Nut and Egg are both foods. So Eggs baby was called Pepper (looked like salt but bigger) , Nuts grey and white baby with a stripe was called salt, Nuts grey and white baby with no stripe was called Mustard and lastly Nuts brown, tan and white baby was called Vineagar.

My friend (Leila) had just lost her guinea pigs so she was going o take two babies. Her mum (an expert with guinea pigs) checked what gender the babies were. Pepper and Vineagr were boys and Saly and Mustard were girls. My friend took Salt and Mustard.

The other two were hard to find homes for but they went to my friends, sisters, boyfriends, stepmums, sister!

Salt and Mustard are both dead unfortantly (sp?) as one died on the hottest day of the year and the other the coldeset.

We do not know how Pepper and Vineagar are as we dont keep in touch with the owner.

I have one guinea pig Piglet.My mom and I rescued him.My aunt's friend was taking horrible care of him.His cage mate had died.They never cleaned the cage,feed him just pellets and no hay,used the wrost bedding and gave him no attition.My mom and I know if we didn't take him he would be died soon.The cage was so small.It looked like a hamster cage.We had just had to rehome my birdie cockatiel Emmy because of the move but we couldn't leave Piglet to die.We were going to find him a new home but ended up keeping him,when we moved again.

Wow Ellie...that sure is a story!! Do Catherine and Greg know that your guinea pigs are named after them?? ha ha ha!!

Zippy - that was really sweet of you. Goodness knows what would have happened to little Piglet. I'd love to see some pictures if you have any?

JuniorxMyxLove - Pepsi and Buddy...they are cool names for guinea pigs. Can't wait to see the pictures.

Hehe Pepsi has been neutered. My mom has not been forgiving by my dad for spending all that money ona guinea pig. We thought they were two boys. It was supposed to be Pepsi and Cola, but Cola didn't work. Then Pepsi and Coke, but that wasnt good enough. Then we ended upith Pepsi and Guiness. We were good untill we found out that Guiness was a girl. Her name was changed to Rosebud, and shorted to Buddy :] Buddy is the boss of their house. :]

Ahhh what a good idea, i have had many guinea pigs in the past, now i am gonna dig up some of their pics. There are 5 guinea pigs at home at the moment. Two are mine, two are my bro's and 1 is my dad's.

Zippy - Piglet is very cute. He looks a lot like my old piggy called Toffee (picture below). Unfortunately I had to have Toffee pts last year as she became very ill all of a sudden. The vet seemed to think that she was showing signs on organ failure and that there was nothing they could do for her.

Then earlier this year her sister, Liqourish (the black one) also had to be pts. She had been having teeth troubles for quite some time and had undergone various operations. Unfortunately the problem didn't get any better, just worse so we had to make the decision.

JuniorxMyxLove - Buddy and Pepsi are gorgeous!! Lucky you found out that Buddy was a girl before any babies came along!

Several years ago I had a piggy called Pickles who arrived with me pregnant. Although, I didn't know anything about it....well I was young!! I thought her belly was a big but had no inclination that she was pregnant. Anyway, I went on holiday with my parents and a friend of ours looked after her for me. I came back to 4 piggies!!!! :eek: Sadly I couldn't keep them, so they were given away to good homes.

I couldn't find a recent photo right now, but these are when they were about one month old, they are now 4 months old and alot bigger. Princess is the tri colored one and Skittles is the white and grey one. They are sister and brother. Skittles will be getting "fixed" between 5-6 months old. They have been in seperate cages for awhile, can't wait until they can play together again. They are such sweethearts and we are very happy they we decided to get them. I still can't believe how much such a little thing can eat. They love to "talk" when they hear the frig door open. :D

Ahhh Princess and Skittles are very cute!!

My two have grown so much over the last few weeks - so much so that we had to go and buy a new home for them! They now have a two tiered palace...which I was a bit skeptical of at first as I didn't think they would like the ramp....how wrong was I?!! Their favourite past time is so have little piggy races up and down the ramp to see who's the fastest!

I keep trying to get more pictures of them but being so young...they don't sit still for five minutes!

Any one else got any piggy pictures or stories to tell?
