"The Las Vegas importer of the contaminated Chinese wheat gluten, ChemNutra Inc., that led to the original pet food recall has suggested that spiking a product with melamine can make it to appear to be richer in protein during tests, thus increasing its value."

WHAT? They put that in it on purpose? If that is so, that makes this even worse.. I had just assuned it was a accident.. I read that they have also found it in RICE!!

Greedy scumbags. :mad: The protein test only counts nitrogens; melamine has a lot of nitrogens in it so will give a higher "protein" level. I wonder if this hasn't been going on for a long time, but the dose was low enough to not be toxic. Then they got really greedy, and said, Hey, let's spike some MORE melamine in! (JMHO)
