72 hr emergency pack for dogs

With being pregnant and my stomach not allowing me to do much other then think I obviously am up late tonight unable to sleep. So I started thinking about making a 72 hr emergency pack for each of the dogs and what I would need to go in each. I have one for hubby and the kids and I but not one for the dogs. And since they are both shepherds I figured they could basically carry most of their own stuff. Here is the list I have so far of what I would want to try and put in each pack:

3 days worth of food
bottle of water
water tablets
colapsible dishes
extra collar and leash
dual purpose harness
rope
first aid kit
small tarp
towel or small blanket
boots
extra utility tool
extra matches


What else would you all add? most if not all should fit in each of the packs. And I don't want it so heavy that they can't carry it all themselves.

That is something we tend to forget. The only thing I could think of adding would be a good pair of pliers in case the dog has a surprise meeting with a porcupine. And also Benadryl tablets in case of bee or wasp stings that might create an allergy.

jar of peanut butter and a kong, at least alex the wonder dog asks for that :)

A small first aid kit. My vet was telling me most items in one i could use on mister if i had too. Other then that I think you got it all covered. i have an emergency kit for him in my jeep all ready to go,so all i would have to do is grab him and go. :D Hes too tiny to carry his own stuff :rolleyes:

I'd add a card with the dog's name, your name and phone number, and the veterinary hospital's name and number. And any allergies or past medical history that someone would need to know about if you and the dog were separated.

Good idea -- photocopies of current rabies and misc. vaccines, and vet and emerg contact names in a laminated or waterproof sheet too, incase you get separated?
