View Full Version : Can cats see ghosts?

Hi Everyone! I had a crazy experience with my little girl kitty last night and wanted to know if anyone has similar experiences.
We had a regular Monday-I came home from work, fed them, played with them, then went to the gym. I came home and all was well. After my shower, I noticed my little girl was acting very odd. She was hiding and running away from me-she's usually at my side like my little shadow-so this was very very odd.
After a while, I inched up next to her, trying not to spook her with any loud noises but she still ran away. When i was finally able to get about arms length away from her she was so focused on something over my shoulder. There was nothing there... but whatever she was 'seeing' clearly had her very very spooked. She spent most of the night under the dining room table and then later that night (at around 2am) I woke up and realized she was under the bed awake. She usually sleeps with me on the bed and is out like a light.

Any thoughts? Similar stories??

This morning she was still acting a little off and wouldn't really let me hold her or be near her....

I have heard all my life that they can see them and I have a firend that I use to work with that swears one of his cats sees something in his house that scares the daylights out of him and makes the cats fur stand streight up. It is a place by his satircase that is where the cat sits and watches for hours, he growls with his fur standing up then bolts in the oppsite direction... and this happens a lot. When the cat wants to go upstairs, he said he will walk through 2 rooms to get to the staircase, rather than use the hall where he "sees" this whatever it is.

I think they are on a differnt consious (spelling?) level than we are, hearing and seeing so I personally, think they do see things we can't.

I have heard that animals and young kids can see ghosts because they are more opened minded then older humans...
My cats don't mind the ghosts in my house. (Yes, there are ghosts in my house.) Whenever I take pictures of Snow or Angel I can see blurrs and human-like figures by my kitties. CREEEPY! I also hear footsteps in the middle of the night and the temperture drops. Whenever Snow feels this, she runs out in the hallway or where ever she can see the ghosts.
I think my cats like the ghosts. I mean, they cant hurt you or anything, only scare you.

Ghosts are typically seen by the very old, the very young, and the very ill /injured in humans. Not so much because they are open-minded as Snow Angel pointed out (though I am certain it doesn't hurt!) but because the veil between lives is thinner for them. I have no doubt that animals see ghosts, but I can't say with any confidence that the whole 'veil' idea applies to them. I imagine it is more due to the way their eyes work. Like how a camera will catch shadows, images, odd lights and things. That is of course all conjecture and speculation, but I still maintain that our fur-babies see a world we can't

Well I saw a ghost once. It was a figure of my grandfather walking in the bedroom right towards me and my dog who was a puppy at the time who was also deaf was crying in her sleep like crazy, my friend was with me and we screamed as loud as we could and nobody heard us. then he vanished. I saw him from the time he was a wight light ball until he formed to the figure of himself!!!! but I wasnt very young old or sick? it was sooo neat but of course very scary!!!

I also saw ghosts too! I saw them twice. One time, it was the middle of the night and I heard footsteps in the hallway. I got up to see what it was and therre was this woman walking back and forth. I got so scared I ran in my room!
Another time was when I woke up an saw a little girl by my mirror!!!!! I screamed and she disappeared.

Has anyone seen animal ghosts before??

I've seen my RB Pepper before. I woke up around 2am and I thought that I saw a cat walking by with a big bushy tail. I thought that it was just Sky but then I realized that none of my cats were in my room. Then I saw it again and it was my Pepper. I turned on the light and he dissapeared.

I used to notice some of my cats just staring at a wall or looking at something
that wasn't there. Maybe they see my Pepper. I know that Pepper comes to visit because I can feel his presence and I sometimes think that I see him out of the corner of my eye.

A pet psychic contacted him and he gave her the message yellow walls. She didn't know what this meant. I told her that I had just painted my walls yellow. This was Pepper's way of telling the psychic that he visits me.:)

wow… thanks for all the feedback! I don’t know if this has made me feel better or more scared! hahaha
Bieli is still acting odd although last night she was much better. She slept in the bed again. This morning she was walking very low to the ground and was a bit scared but at least she wasn’t looking at empty spots over my shoulder. I’ll keep you all posted!
Thanks again!
Happy Thursday!

I'm pretty sure animals can see spirit visitors. I swear Tobey has sensed my Dad's presence - he sat and stared at the same spot for ages a couple of days after Dad died, with his little tail wagging like mad!

I am convinced I saw my Grandad walk by my kitchen door shortly after he died too - I think he popped back to check I was okay on his way to the Bridge

Okay... Well how about our lost friends coming back to see us??? When my girlfriend's ancient pooch Teysha died, she swore she could hear her claws on the kitchen tile late at night. I thought that maybe she was just missing her beloved pet until I stayed in her house one night and heard it myself! Do you guys think that sometimes our pets might not go too far after they cross the "rainbow bridge"?

I think Leonardo sees Angels. He will lay beside me in bed and look off into space. He's not a bit frightened or anything. Since I always ask God to surround my house with angels, I figure that's who he sees.

The others probably see them too because they are never afraid of what they are seeing. :D

My cats are very used to seeing ghosts in my apartment, so used to it that they just state with interest and don't get scared any more. I think they are either seeing angels (angels will gather wherever you display their images, something I read once and found out is very true) or some friends (like Ora Ray Glore, the fmr. Hells Angels LACO Chapter president who's the older brother of my former fiance and adopted me as his "Lil' Sis" and sometimes accompanied by his parents one of whom knew me when I was affianced), and relatives (the Two Grandmas Nellie and Kay and the Grandpas Ron C. & Jacob Russell D.) who like to hang around and watch me and the kitties play.

If your animals are frightened of what they are seeing, it's time to consult a psychic or medium who can help you deal with the spirit that is frightening them; it might be someone who is malevolent or just doesn't know they are dead and needs a little help moving on!

I rarely sense something evil in my apartment; if I do, I will read the 15th Psalm aloud and with reverence, which anything negative simply cannot remain in the presence of even one word of the Psalms spoken out loud, especially those Psalms (the 91st Psalm, Michael's psalm, also works like that, too) I also burn frankincense, yes, the real stuff they burn in church, it can be bought online if you do a google search...be sure to buy the charcoal "cups" to burn it on as it (the incense) comes in a bag of chunks and not in stick form.

Hope this helps!

When we were still in Bahrain, Mouse would look up at the ceiling for forever. But, once I look up to where he was looking, he would just walk off like nothing happened. To this day, I don't know if he was PLAYING with me or seeing something.

My Chaz had me bewildered the other night. He was sitting upright on the top of his cat tree so I went over to try to engage him in playing with a toy. He ignored the toy and me and was frozen with intent, staring over my shoulder. I could only think it was a bird or something outside as he was facing a window that was clear across two rooms.

So I just shrugged and walked away. Then he jumped down and was slinking into the kitchen, tail fluffed to observe whatever it was from another angle. This time he was NOT looking toward any windows. He never fluffs his tail for any reason.

I thought it might be that he didn't recognize Lizette, who was calmly sitting on the dining room in the general area of his focus. I removed her, and his behavior did not change. He was freaked by something invisible to me. If it was a ghost, Lizette didn't mind it being there, and seemed very relaxed; enough to sit close to it.

Also, each morning I find one (always the same one) of the cats' toys deposited on the bedroom rug, next to my side of the bed. This has been going on for several weeks. I always pick it up and put it back in the living room. At first I thought it was either Cochise or Chaz, but I have never seen any of my cats carry toys in their mouths, ever. Maybe it is the ghost of Lily, Muskrat or Meeshe? I just don't get it.

i think that i saw the ghost of my dead dog.
blue used to lie at the top of the stairs,
and because he was black, i couldnt see him in the dark.
red was in my parents room,
all the cats were either sleeping or out playing.
i went out into the hallway, went to walk downt he stairs, i moved my right foot to the part where blue used to lie.
and i heard that weird groan noise you sometimes get when you poke a sleeping dog with your foot.
i looked down, i went to reach for blue as if his death had just been a nightmare-
nothing there. yet i still find myself, about, 9 months after he was put down, stepping over him.
and the cats never sleep in blues place.
+ isnt this a bit freaky?
(ps i know tis about dogs)
Purple died (blues sister) before she could be rescued
Blue died after 12 years with us,
Now we have a dog called Red that came to us Purely by chance?
Sometimes i think that Red may have Blue and Purples spirits inside her- she ahs the same nose and mischevious antics...

Definitely! I was away earlier this year, and my housemate was minding the cats, and there was some ghostly activity going on (so much so even we knew about it). The cats were just going nutz, running around and meowing strangely. I have seen it before myself.

I like the concept of "veils" being thin in humans, and I also think that animals are naturally attuned to what goes on in the next life. My two remaining kitties, Pixie and Randie, certainly behaved oddly when Nibbler passed on to the Bridge.

I think they can see them--and sense them. A good friend of mine used to own a Metaphysical shop that was in an old building that had all kinds of wierd energy. When I brought my normally mellow Howard to visit her one day, his eyes got HUGE and he was just looking all over as if he were seeing things that weren't there. Then a couple years later, I moved to an apartment that is actually an old house that has been divided up. Ever since, Luna has been obsessed with my closet door, which I always keep closed just to shut out the clutter inside (it's a fairly large walk-in closet). She will sit by that door and meow and meow and sniff at it as if there's something in there that she wants or wants to see or is talking to. She doesn't behave this way with any other closed door in the place, not the door to outside, not the bathroom door (which, too, I usually keep shut)....not even the door that leads to the cellar. Just the closet door. Sometimes Howard will join her in her obsession.

Not that I think The Boogyman lives in my closet (that's too cheezy), but I do think that there is some sort of energy in that part of the apartment that attracts Luna's attention and makes her act like that.

When The Found Cats go out on the porch they often Meeow to nothing at all, I think they sense Thier Angel Pals and The Porch Cat Angels.
Thier Friends often come home to see how things are going!!

It could be that a cat went into that closet to have her kittens, and maybe one didn't make it . . . The kitten's ghost is still there.

A house in a nearby town was demolished by a fire and they had a mother cat (Delilah) nursing her kittens in their bedroom closet and they all perished. :( When I read about this in the newspaper I was grief-sticken and sent them a gift card to PetSmart for their remaining cat. Maybe a similar tragedy occured and Luna just wants to meet and comfort the ghost kitty.

there happened to be a cat in the backroom meowing its head off and then she commented its not the one in the back we haven't touched him yet!!

I really believe they can. When my husband died in 1997, my cat was only two years old. Several times when we were watching TV, he would look up at the ceiling above us and stare at a particular spot. I assumed it was my husband making sure we were both okay. I reassured him that we were, and eventually he left. My cat and I haven't heard from him since.

Something strange that happened to me at Pet Smart. I was looking for a memorial for my El's grave about a week after he died. When I got out of the car in the parking lot, I noticed a large Golden Retriever that was barking. Anyway, inside the store I was looking in the memorial aisle, crying, when this same dog comes up to me and sniffs my hand. The lady with the dog gently tugged on the leash and said "come on Ellie". I thought this was odd because El's name was Ellie. It made me feel good! I felt as if El was telling me everything was okay.

I have a year old male Abby and he is a wonderful cat. However at times he seems to play with and 'talk' to something I can't see. I thought this was a small insect or something like that. However last night at around 11:40 pm Haku woke up from a sound and snoring sleep and rushed into the hallway where he began to cry for me. (He does that)
When I went out to see what he wanted, he was staring at the ceiling and seemed to track something moving there. I lifted him up higher so he could show me 'the bug' but he didn't attack anything. This sounds odd but I am telling you it happened. He started purring and reaching for something in midair just inches from us. Again. I saw nothing.

For the next 40 minutes I let him sit on my shoulder as he meowed to this whatever it was, and he was kneading my shoulder, purring like the happy cat the entire time. I live in a fairly new apartment complex and I can't figure this out. I think I might have something here with the two of us, but he doesn't seem bothered in the least by it, in fact he seems to like it very much. I do hear odd things from time to time, but nothing really too scary. I think if I didn't see that my cat was so comfy with this whatever it is, I might be a little more freaked out. Anyone have any opinions?

has anyone close to you passed away?
If it is a loved one its possible that the reason he is so comfortable with them is b/c they are there in love.

Animals are sensitive creatures, much more than most of us humans. My cat boys often look at intently at nothing. I have no doubt that they can see our family members and other people who have passed on. My boys never act like they are threatened by what they see. They act as if what they see is rather amusing. I have tried to take pictures of what they are looking at but by the time I get the camera out the cats are no longer looking in that direction.

According to Hans Holzer, a psychical researcher, he differentiates between ghosts and spirits. Ghosts, he says, are continuous replays of events, such as the ghosts that people see at places like Gettysburg, where they can see reenactments of battles. The ghosts aren't aware of the presence of humans because they have no real "life" of their own; it's merely a replay, such as watching a movie over and over again. We can observe them but we can't interact in any way. Spirits, however, according to Holzer, are souls who have pierced the veil, crossed over to the other side and can and do make contact w/those of us still here on earth. As someone who has been involved w/the spirit realm my entire life, I subscribe to this belief as well. So. Can cats see ghosts? Yes. Can they see spirits? Yes. Animals, children, the elderly and those who are ready to make their transition can see and communicate w/them because they are more sensitive as they are closest to the the thinning veil between the worlds. As we enter into the dark of the year, people and animals will have more experiences w/spirits, Samhain (Halloween) being the night when the veil between the worlds is at its thinnest. My black Halloween cat, Boo, sometimes stares at something and watches intently and I know that he's making contact. All of my cats do it but especially Boo.

Hi. I'm new here, but was reading this thread about cats seeing spirits, etc. I have to agree with 'ValorousFlame777' that, if your animals are frightened, it really is time to consult a psychic/medium to get rid of the spirit. Cats should never be scared of any spirit they see, within the confines of your home. If they are, the spirit is not friendly.

I have been seeing spirits since I was a small child. I am a "psychic-medium" and, since losing my precious "Yosha" cat, I saw her a number of times. She still visits me and she passed in August, 2006. I communicate with animals who are past on also. Over and above all that, my apartment has many "orb" spirits here, of which I took pictures of. My two kittens watch them and even play with them sometimes, but they are never scared of them, as the spirits are friendly. :) I would highly suggest what 'ValorousFlame' said to do, if your animal/s is frightened of any spirit they see.

Thanks for listening.

My cat and dog would both perk up their ears and stare at a spot next to me on the couch from time to time. I thought I was just imagining things because I watch alot of scary tv but now i'm wondering if it was my boyfriend's dad sitting there. My boyfriend brought his dad's urn to the house and my animals never did anything weird like that before it showed up. They didnt seem to be scared. My dog loved my boyfriend's dad so maybe thats why they just both stared.

Hi. I'm new here, so I will say "Hi" to everyone first. I want to comment on cats seeing ghosts. I have two 11 month old kittens that I rescued, along with another sister and their mother. My kittens are named "Tigger" and "Satin". There have been many times that I have watched both of them looking toward me, but their gaze is set on spirits that are around me. I watched Satin, one day, as she was watching something move. She ran down the hallway and stopped, looking at the wall. I was curious, so I took a picture on my digital camera and, low and behold, Satin had her sight on a 'spirit orb'. I have a number of 'spirit orbs' in my apartment. :)

As for seeing our beloved pets who have passed, I lost my cherished "Yosha" over a year ago. I have actually seen her, at times, and I quite often feel her walking around my bed, as she always use to do. No, it isn't one of my kittens because I have often checked, only to see either one on my bed. When I was very young, we had a dog named "Goldie", a golden Labrador. When she passed, I cried and cried and, one night, while missing her terribly, she showed up beside my bed. I remember petting her and talking to her for a very long time before she just vanished.

I am also 'in tune' with many animals who have passed on. I have described them to their owners and even given messages to their owners. I do that via instant messaging. I don't know why I have this 'gift', but I do.

Well, I guess I should stop for now, before I write too long of a message. lol

I will find a place whee I can post pictures of my 2 kittens, and my cherished "Yosha", who is waiting for me at rainbow bridge.

Thank you for listening...

One winter evening I was sitting in a room in the ceter of the house. The room with the stone chair  Lamoni was standing in the doorway looking at the main hall. We heard footsteps in the hall - 3 feet away. Lamoni watched the sound go by from right to left. He stepped into the hall and peered around the corner to the left. Nobody there.

A couple of minutes later the footstep sound happened again, this time left to right. He watched the invisible person walk by again. He peered around the corner to the right. Nobody there.

When the footsteps started to come back he ran past me an dove head-long into the bathtub. I looked over there and he was just peaking over the rim and he was shaking with fear.

The central heating duct runs the length of the house right under the hallway. We had removed the carpet just weeks before. When the furnace came on the boards would pop-pop-pop as the floor warmed. When it would turn off the boards would pop-pop-pop in the other direction. Sounded just like someone walking. Lamoni (RB) thought that it was a ghost. I miss him.

Me and my girlfriend were sitting eating dinner when our 10 week old kitten came running through from the hall startled. His heart was beating like mad and his hair was on end! We checked the hall nothing was there as expected! We shut the door frightened there was something there. could it have been a ghost???

Hi everyone,
This is the first time I stumbled onto this site...it is a cool site!! I do believe that ppl and animals see spirits, ghosts etc. My cat Mindy who is about 1 and a half acted very different on the day that my Aunt passed away in March.
My mother and family had just returned from visiting her after believing that she would recover from heart surgery...3 days after surgery she complained of a pain in her chest. The nurse went to get the doctor and she was dead on the floor...it was her first time sitting up in the chair too. It was a shock because she seemed to be doing so well.
I did not know that my Aunt had passed away and I was in my kitchen when I noticed a tiny child size china mug that my Aunt had painted for me when I was around 4...I stopped and said to myself, "I better put that away so that it doesn't break." About 30 minutes before that Mindy kept crying and following me everywhere like crazy!! She was crying real loud to as if she didn't understand what was going on and she was demanding an answer from me. I tried to cat talk to her...it would calm her down for just a few minutes.
Then, about 1 hour later that's when my mother came over to my apartment in tears and told me that Aunt Sondra had passed away at 12. Mindy was acting strangly around 11am to about 12:30 and didn't stop until my mother came over. So, I believe my Aunt came to visit me and I do believe that Mindy saw her and was trying to make me see her. I wish I could understand cat language because I tried everything that day to get her to calm down...the only thing that worked was when my mom came over and my mom and Aunt Sondra were close I think that is why Mindy calmed down.
One reason why I came to this site is because I wanted to ask anyone if they had any idea on how to help my cat to stop being so scared? She is scared of every noise that my 9 yr old boy makes, sometimes thunder, certain sounds that will sound like a hiss...a growl...anything real loud like vacuums and she freaks out. She stopped making her tail real big so that is a plus, but she is so scared of her environment and my son and I are very loving towards her and give her the attention that she needs...I don't know what to do anymore. Last night she hissed at me because I picked her up and she didn't want to be moved...so I told her to calm down and she seemed to relax a bit. I thought about asking the vet if I can do anything more than what I'm doing.
The other question I have is: she has been sneezing quite a bit the last few days...she doesn't seem sick-do cats get allergies, if so can they be the same kind of allergies that ppl get? Thanks for all of the answers and ideas ahead of time.
Oh, one other thing, she does act a little weird  she stares at the wall and tries to catch her shadow....I don't understand it at all. Thanks everyone.

Yes.

I have seen spirits before - My last encounter, my grandfather, soon after he passed away. He visited me the day before his wake, and I was so upset that night and he just stopped by and let me know he was OK... It was a very calm presence. :)

I was watching Ghost Travelers or something like that on tv a couple nights ago when they had said "Do you hear that, it sounds like something dragging". About 3 minutes after they said that I heard what sounded like a soda can sliding on my kitchen counter which was right next to the couch. I timidly looked to see if there was a can but there wasn't then was scared to see my cat staring at the wall in the kitchen right where i heard the sound! He kept looking up and down about 5 times. I looked to see if maybe there was a fly or something but there was nothing. I'm sure it was some kind of spirit and boy was I scared after that!!

Hi, one of my cats did exactly the same last year, crawled round the house like a commando, terrified me. I hardly slept and was planning on contacting the priest to bless the house. Next morning heard there had been an earthquake at the same time puss went berserk. Check USGS website, may have happened in your area.:)

I believe my cat Kit-Kat or maybe some other ghost cat came to visit me one evening. My cat Moose had gotten outside by accident (I never let them outside). It was late at night and I was on the porch calling him. All of a sudden I felt the sense of a cat around my legs and almost a feeling of a small wind. I looked down. There was no cat there. Also there was no wind that evening. It was not spooky or scary at all. It was sort of a calming feeling. Moose came back a short while after that. Maybe Kit-Kat was helping him find his way back.

I am so glad to read about these experiences.

My old kitty (R.I.P. 2007), ChenMao, was a rescued kitty. She had been abandoned by her previous family and had delivered a litter of kittens in the garage of a neighbor who subsequently caught and killed them (I never knew or wanted to know how...he's evil). The day that she came to me he was setting a trap for her. She was so sad, nearly starved and obviously terrified looking for her kittens. I took her in and she became such a sweet companion for 17 years. At the time I was staying with my mom in the house where I grew up and many kitties had come and gone before (doggies too). After about 6 months I was getting ready for work and ChenMao came to me and was crying a different meow than I was used to. It was demanding. It got my attention. When she saw she had my attention she started running to my old bedroom. When I didn't get up to follow she came back and did the same thing again. I told my mom I thought she wanted me to follow her. I did...she had found a large paper bag (storage for some old towels and sheets) in the closet and was lying on top of it on her side purring and behaving much like a mom kitty nursing her babies. I stood there and wept. It was so touching. She wanted to show me her babies. Mom told me that we had never had a cat that delivered kittens in that closet so I'm thinking it was her babies.

I had an experience in that same room when I was younger. We had a a Siamese named Melvin. When my oldest sister got married and moved out of the house she took Melvin to live with her. Melvin and I were buddies and he used to sleep with me at night. I cried when I heard that Melvin had passed on but a few days later I was in bed and had just turned out the reading light and settled in. I felt Melvin jump up on the foot of the bed and start walking towards my face (he slept on my chest). I was so happy to have him with me but then I realized that he couldn't be there. I turned on the light and there was no cat but there were indentations in the bedspread where his little feet had walked.

When I took ChenMao to the vet for the last time I told her that her little spirit could come and visit me anytime she wanted to. I wouldn't be afraid. She had a jingle ball toy in the sliding door that rattled everytime she went behind the vertical blinds to catch a sunbeam. I told her if she came to visit to rattle that toy. I never heard her. My niece brought her dog over and he went to smell the ball but didn't touch it, he avoided it as a matter of fact. After a year and half after ChenMao's passing I adopted Brie. She didn't bother the jingle bell toy. After 2 weeks I adopted Scutter, a most challenging little kitty on so many levels. On his initial investigation of the apartment I was wondering if I was doing the right thing and he entered the living room and made a beeline to the sliding door where he promptly knocked the jingle ball to the other end of the window. I knew that ChenMao was telling me that Scutter belonged with me and I WAS doing the right thing.

Thanks for letting me tell these stories. People usually laugh at me. My mom witnessed the nursing behavior and she said it made the hair on the back of her neck stand out. I was just very intrigued.

Love to you all,
Dj, Brie and Scutter :love::love::love:

Someday on the Rainbow Bridge I'll find Shana, Melvin, Tiki and ChenMao and maybe even Simon and Charmin and Alan.

i have also had similar expierences with my cats. my cats often stalk, play with, look at, or meow at something several times day or night. earlier today my siamese cat princess was crying for no reason at something that wasnt there. and often my other cat star looks at something for several minutes without moving.

I absolutely believe that animals can see ghosts. My husband died back in 1997. About a month later, I was on the living room couch with my cat Koko, when all of a sudden he stared right up at the cathedral ceiling over our heads. He definitely saw or felt my husband's presence in the room with us. I told my husband not to worry, and that we were doing okay. The episode never happened to us again.

I also believe. We also joke about Mit's reading Patch's book as he does exactly the thinks Patches did for me.
The story goes back 26 years ago, not long after my wife and I were together, she found a puppy in a dumpster. My sister said that she thought that my nieces were allergenic to their long hair dog, the puppy was a short hair. So we decided to trade. In the mean time my niece finds a kitten in the front yard. Long story shorter, we came home with the puppy and a kitten. The kitten was to young and I had to bottle feed her.
Now mind you I was always a dog person and did not really like cats., BUT this little kitten made it her mission in life to change my mind. She was my nurse, my companion, My friend and always keep a close eye on me. I had to go on a business trip for a month, this upset her so much that the diabetes started . She was about 2, so she received insulin for the rest of her life. The dog Ginger and Patches were sisters all the way. Ginger would try to purr and Patches would play fetch.
Now Mit’s is my nurse, my buddy, and keeps an eye on me. Like Patch’s he makes sure that I go to bed on time , if I’m sick he will sit on my chest (just like Patch’s) too make sure that I don’t get out of bed (this is the only time he sits on me in bed). Some times I see him looking at a spot on the bed (my pillow) and once in awhile he will chortle. No one sits or sleeps on my pillow, that was Patch’s spot.
Now I find that Lucky is doing some of the same things.
I think that we have the privilege of have Patch’s looking over us and still taking care.

Found this board while doing a Google search on the subject.

Those who know me well enough know that I have had experiences with the paranormal in the past. There were the incidents at my parents house growing up that followed me to college and didn't stop until I was baptized in the spring of 1993. In college, there was a dorm on campus that was haunted. And, at my second job out of college, I discovered that the offices the company I worked for were a former funeral home.

Since last fall, I've been wondering if I might be going through more experiences and had been wondering if I was alone in experiencing an animal coming back that hasn't fully passed on.

On Saturday, August 7th of last year, I had to have my first cat Chessie put to sleep. I'd adopted him when he was about four months old in April 2007. About three weeks afterwards, he was found to have a bad heart murmur. Since that was discovered, I began getting him checked regularly at MedVet here in Columbus, and he was on what gradually became multiple pills twice a day. In the little over three years he was with me and Casey Jones (my second cat), he never showed any signs of problems and acted completely normal. On the Saturday I lost him, I'd taken him to the vet for a routine blood check. While there, he suddenly collapsed from a partial blood clot that had been found in November 2009. It had broken loose and hit the artery going down his back. Needless to say, it was a very difficult time for me, and I still have difficulties dealing with his not being here.

However, there have been several incidents that have me wondering if Chessie is still around.

On the evening of Sunday, August 22nd, just over two weeks after losing Chessie, the first incident occurred. I was doing dishes in the kitchen and had the TV on in the living room. While drying dishes, I'd take an item over to the doorway of the kitchen to dry it and see what was going on on the show I had on. At one point as I looked into the living room, I saw Casey behaving very strangely. He was crouched down with his ears laid back, eyes wide open, and tail pulled down under him as he slowly crept up on the cat tent on the floor. From where I was standing, I could see into the tent, and it was empty. However, Casey was acting scared and seemed to see something that I couldn't, completely ignoring my standing a few feet away. As he put his head into one of the openings of the tent, he suddenly relaxed, went in, and curled up inside, acting completely normal again. At the time, I didn't think too much of it, thinking it only a coincidence that it happened at about the same time that Chessie used to curl up in the tent for a nap.

Later on that week, a second incident occurred. This time, I was on the couch watching TV when Casey again acted scared, this time slowly crawling up on Chessie's old bed that was on the floor in front of the TV. I could clearly see that there was nothing in it, but again, Casey was acting like there was something there. Like the incident with the tent, Casey got his head over the bed, suddenly relaxed, climbed onto the bed, and curled up on it, again acting like nothing had happened. I wasn't sure what to make of it as I'd never seen him acting like that before that.

During the evening of Monday, August 30th, an incident occurred to me. I was on the floor in the kitchen doorway working out on my AbSlide. I was taking a break and was just on my knees on the floor with my arms hanging down at my sides. My back was to the living room, where I knew Casey was. Suddenly, I felt whiskers and breathing on the open palm of my left hand. After three and a half years of having cats, I knew that somebody was wanting attention, and I began to reach back and look down to make over Casey. Nothing was there, and the feeling was gone. I turned around, and Casey was on the other side of the living room curled up in Chessie's old bed in front of the TV. There was no way for him to have been the one touching my hand since I would have heard and seen him running back to where he was. And this was before I'd adopted Smokey.

About a week later around Wednesday, September 8th, there was another incident where Casey was scared of something I couldn't see in Chessie's old bed. Like before, the bed was in front of the TV on the floor, and I could clearly see that there was nothing there. Again, he calmed down once his head was over the bed.

Smokey came home on Monday, September 13th, and I expected the incidents to come to an end once Casey and I had our new roommate settled in. They didn't.

Around mid-October, Casey had a third incident with Chessie's old bed. It was the same as the other two. The only difference this time was that Smokey was curled up at my feet on the couch.

Late in the evening of Tuesday, November 16th, I was again touched. This time, it was in the upstairs bathroom. I was in my PJs and barefoot at the sink getting around for bed. I felt whiskers and breathing on my right foot (closest to the bathroom door). I looked down to see who had sneaked in and was smelling my foot. Nobody was there, and the feeling was gone. I quickly looked around, and neither Casey or Smokey were in the bathroom. They weren't even upstairs. I found them down in the living room asleep together on the couch.

On the Monday after Christmas (December 27th), I had a different experience from anything that had happened to that point. I was on the couch eating dinner and watching a movie. Smokey was on the other end of the couch from me, and Casey was on the back of the couch. Both were curled up and asleep. I got up to go to the kitchen. At the time, I had only three lights on: the lamp on the end table in the living room and the sink and stove lights in the kitchen. The lights in the kitchen had formed a very defined shadow of the corner of the doorway on the floor leading out to the kitchen. As I came around my recliner to go to the kitchen, I saw a shadow on the floor like something was going from right to left towards the sink. I stopped for a split second and then quickly went into the kitchen. There was nothing out of the ordinary, but I had a feeling like I was not alone. I put down the plate in my hand and looked back at the shadow of the corner on the floor. Putting a hand between the shadow and the light, I tried to determine where the shadow had been cast from to appear on the floor where I'd seen it. I found that my had to be about a foot above the surface of the stove to recreate the shadow I'd seen. About a foot off the top of the stove would be about Chessie's height.

That night, seriously considering the possibility that Chessie was visiting me and Casey, I tried talking to him. I told him that Casey and I loved him and that if he wanted to continue visiting us, he was more than welcome since this is always his home. I also told him that as much as we loved him, he had passed on and needed to move on to the Rainbow Bridge to wait for us. I told him that he was healed from his heart issue and no longer had to take pills or get heart scans done.

Things were quiet after that, and I thought it was over until the evening of Saturday, February 26th. I was on the couch eating dinner and watching the Nascar race. Smokey was curled up on the other end of the couch. Casey came over on the floor and then jumped over me onto the back of the couch as usual. He began grooming himself when he suddenly stopped, leg in midair, staring across the room at Chessie's bed. While his ears weren't laid back, he had a definite scared look on his face and was breathing very rapidly, which had me very concerned. I tried talking to him and was only about two feet away from him. He was completely oblivious to my voice. Even when I put my hand on him, he only gave me a scared glance and then continued stare at Chessie's bed. After a couple minutes, he suddenly relaxed and resumed his grooming like nothing happened.

The last incident was this past Wednesday evening. I was on the one end of the couch watching TV and eating dinner. Casey was curled up asleep on the back of the couch. Smokey was curled up asleep in the recliner. While I was looking at the TV, I saw out of the corner of my eye a flash of something white going up from the floor at the other end of the couch towards the top of the CD cabinet. I quickly turned my head and looked, but nothing was there. I went back to watching TV, and about a couple minutes later, I saw movement again out of the corner of my eye. This time it was on the back of the couch about a foot away from Casey. I didn't clearly see what was moving that time. It almost seemed like a ripple effect in the air. Casey was still asleep and not moving. I turned my head back to watch TV again. Suddenly, there was a loud bang as Casey shot off the back of the couch, launching himself off the wall hard enough that everything on the wall bounced. He then cautiously came back towards the couch, looking quite scared and staring at the back of the couch. I felt around where he'd been and where I'd last seen movement before he got spooked, but I didn't feel anything. Casey didn't go back on the couch the rest of the evening, instead curling up in Chessie's old bed.

Definitely!!! Animals are VERY into the paranormal. They can see things we don't. I know that RB MooShoo and Mollie Rose are with me. I'll feel a slight "brush" against me all the time. I don't dismiss it.

Animals also have a sense when a Sunami, or other natural disasters are impending. So yes, I believe it.

I totally agree with you! I heard from somebody that once an earthquake or some volcano was going to erupt in winters, and so, there was a town near that volcano and there were lots of pigs, etc. there. In the middle of winters, the hibernating snakes came out in the open, froze to death, the pigs started chewing on their tails and the ants starting climbing out of their bills.:eek::eek: This thread is so creepy, its making me cry...

I feel stupid crying over this thread but, some stories are so creepy!! I feel so scared over those creepy stories!!

I have heard that little kids and animals see things we can't. And, animals can see some future maybe, or something like that, like they know when somebody will die and know something in the future at times too...Its creepy...:eek::eek:

Yes, I believe they can. I have seen my RB, Benny, the same day we put him to sleep. He came by and visited me by laying next to me by the computer. I could have SWORN I saw him, in the corner of my eye, just laying down and just being content as he could be, and as soon as I turned my head to look at him, he was gone. My other experience, my grandfather visited me the next night after he passed on. He was checking on me, and letting me know he was going to be OK and he's happy now. I still tear up every time I think about that, because I had such a close relationship with him. It's been almost three years.

Having grown up in a family with several "Psychics or Sensitives or Mediums" for a lack of any better description, and being one myself since a very young age. I learned things from my Grandma many things. We ALL can see spirits or angels of loved ones that have passed over, and even pets that have passed over. We're just so saturated with external noise and interference that most of us just don't notice these things. Animals are very sensitive to these energies that most people don't notice. Cat and Dogs are more "In Tune" to the energy and life forces that connect us all together.

My Grandma taught me that our cats and dogs are what she called "Half In & Half Out" meaning half in our normal physical realm, and half in the spiritual realm, and we should always pay attention to their reactions to the energies they react to. If your kitty is responding in a negative manner to something, you have to DEMAND the negative energy or spirit to leave, they have NO POWER over this realm, and if you believe in God or some higher power you invoke that power over them to leave and believe 100% in that power.

In my household my 4 cats all "see" things, as do I. usually my passed over pets, or relatives, all positive energies, and they respond in a positive manner, sometimes even acting like they are playing with them. It's an incredible experience to see them do this. There are just so many things that we can't explain in this world, but we should NEVER fear the unknown.

I had just lost a cat and then got a new kitten and I was wandering if my deceased cat Gus would approve of my kitten Tigger. Will one day Tigger was on my lap. He turned his head toward the porch door as his hair and my hair raised up on our backs. There was my deceased cat Gus appearing like a photo negative smiling at us and then walked through the porch door. My sister thought I was crazy but 2 weeks later she saw Gus at the porch door with Tigger. There are ghosts. It WAS VERY cool.:)

Oh u remind me of when our Boston terrier "Frankie" passed away. It had only been a few days since he died, and I heard scratching at the front door. I was sitting quietly with my big kitty Wendell. Frankie always scratched at the door when he needed back in. (Fenced yard of course). Well, in my mind - and knowing Frankie was gone, I figured I was just imagining it, when I saw my big kitty lift his head from sleep and look straight at the front door! Then I knew I wasn't imagining the scratching sound! I truly do believe that there is something to this....

Things have been quiet for a while here. Haven't heard from Chessie since this past April. Either he's moved on to the Rainbow Bridge to wait for us, or we just haven't sensed him. http://chatanuga.org/MyGhost.html#Chessie
