INVASION USA

2/3 of immigrants cost Americans $22,449 a year, shows new study

2007 WorldNetDaily.com

WASHINGTON – Someone has finally fixed an approximate taxpayer cost of between 12 million and 15 million illegal aliens residing in the U.S.

A new study by the Heritage Foundation's Robert Rector found a household headed by an individual without a high school education, including about two-thirds of illegal aliens, costs U.S. taxpayers more than $32,000 in federal, state and local benefits. That same family contributes an average of $9,000 a year in taxes, resulting in a net tax burden of $22,449 each year.

Over the course of the household's lifetime that tax burden translates to $1.1 million.

If the lower figure of 12 million illegal aliens is used for estimation purposes, the total tax burden translates to $2.2 trillion.

"Would any of us buy shares in a company that we knew would produce a loss of a million dollars a share," asks Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, in response to the study. "Cheap labor is not cheap at the cost of over a million dollars per head of household."

Rector's study, "The Fiscal Cost of Low-Skill Households to the U.S. Taxpayer," examines the economics of the 17.7 million American households made up of people without a high-school degree. Using numbers from the Census Bureau, the Congressional Research Service, the Bureau of Labor Standards and other government agencies, Rector determined what they earn, what they spend and what they receive in government services.

About half of the 17.7 million households studied are illegal aliens. About two-thirds of illegal alien households are headed by someone without a high school degree. Only 10 percent of native-born Americans fit into that category.

"Over the next ten years the total cost of low-skill households to the taxpayer (immediate benefits minus taxes paid) is likely to be at least $3.9 trillion," Rector writes. "This number would go up significantly if changes in immigration policy lead to substantial increases in the number of low-skill immigrants entering the country and receiving services."

Interesting article. I wouldn't disagree on the cost to citizens social
services, but I think as long as American business interests favor low
salaries for workers, they will keep coming here. Business's gain is our
collective loss.

Yahbut, I also heard that hundreds of millions of dollars worth of produce have gone unpicked because of the crackdown on illegals. Good, bad or indifferent, they do jobs that US citizens don't care to do. So, pick your poison. I think the "guest worker" rule is the best compromise, but any solution is going to p!ss somebody off.

I'm confused- this article isn't just about illegal aliens.

A new study by the Heritage Foundation's Robert Rector found a household headed by an individual without a high school education, including about two-thirds of illegal aliens

It's talking about households that are headed by a person without a high school diploma. Let's see, truly needy people are taking some tax dollars- I'm so angry.

There are a million things wrong with the argument that poor people are the source of everyone's problems. I get so sick of hearing it over and over, just rephrased.

Good article. Another good reason why the Fair Tax should be implemented. Pay as you buy, whether you're here legally or illegally, regardless of your source of income.

Well I'm trapped right in the heart of the problem and the BS that they do jobs Americans won't do is an outright lie. The truth of the matter is that they do jobs for less pay and fewer benefits than Americans do.

There are plenty of Americans that will do the same job for decent pay. The same decent pay that they were getting before an illegal immigrant was hired for the same job.

Having lived with this situation since the beginning, I'm completely convinced that the illegal immigration problem is just a modern day form of slavery. Slavery that is taking jobs from American citizens and costing the taxpayers millions of dollars every year while the employers that hire them flourish and grow rich!

Picture yourselves (any of us) crammed into a tiny home meant to house a family of five or six; but instead it's filled with 15 or 20 individuals working for minimum wage or lying to collect welfare. People coming and going at all hours--many of them jobless. You're dependent on welfare to feed your children--those same children who are crammed into overcrowded schools. Your only medical care the ER at the closest hospital. Is this the way any of us would choose to live? Every day in Phoenix and Tucson drop houses are discovered with 50 to 100 illegal immigrants held against their will and crammed into a 1200 square foot home with no food water or plumbing. Is this humane?

In the days of slavery, the slave owner was required to furnish food, housing and medical care and nothing more. The same things we're required to provide for our pets! Today those necessities are furnished by the welfare system or by the more honest of the illegals cramming themselves into homes with other poor immigrants working for slave wages. Their living conditions are something that we wouldn't even tolerate for our pets.

The American government sends billions of dollars to Mexico every year, supposedly to benefit the poor. Apparently it's throwing money down a rathole since they continue to pour across the border at the rate of 10,000 or more every day. And 200 or more of those desperate people die a horrible death in the desert every year!

Any one that thinks our government is promoting "comprehensive immigration reform" with the interests of the illegal immigrants at heart is living in a dream world. It's all about cheap labor and not a thought about the suffering it causes for immigrants and American citizens alike!
