Interacting with any protected bird or animal (like feeding deer, ducks, geese) is against the law... People will always do it, cause who can resist feeding a hungry animal? I got to pet baby canadian geese, fed them, & took pics... I'm not in jail yet woot! hehe

its only when people go over board at feeding them, is when the law will toss the book at you.

Your allowed to own them I ''THINK'' with a licence, I have seen many people have them as pets and many people know this auction buys and sells them. :)

Yes you have to have a a permit to buy them, but if you sell them you must get a license.

Hmmmm... neat... I'll have to look into that when I get some time... I know with Axle, the law states you can own a Snapping turtle, but there are rules.. you cannot buy or sell them.. once you have it as a pet, your stuck with it for life (I'm NOT complaining, I love him)... You can only own one & you cannot breed it.

Snapping turtles fall under the wild game animals act (like deer... tiss very complicated & confusing:S)... Some cities ban snappers as pets, like the one I live in ;) But I've been told by the city, not to worry about it, cause I've had him since he was a hatchling & he'll be 8 this year.. + I origionally had him in a city that allowed them... so all is well.. unless he causes problems, (like eats someone cat or bites someone...) but that cannot happen cause he lives in my bedroom

They are beautiful animals; I use to have one. We had him a year and he flew away next door to live with some other wild C. Geese. They fly around the neighborhood here all the time. I have no idea which one he is (his name is Rain :) ) since they all favor soooo much, but he must be happy because he never decided to come back home.

The only thing about him was he wasn't ever as tame as my ducks. He was always very cautious and wouldn't let you touch him at all. But they are gorgeous

Here is a picture of Rain if you want to see it. He really bonded with my ducks they were all best friends ;)

Awww he's beautiful,

Do you know the life span of a pekin duck?

I read it's around 7 to 15 years old, one lady has one at 9 years old.

Hey Arganade,

Is that the kind your baby ducks are--pekins?
I use to have one and got her as a baby at a Tradeday about an hour away. She was precious but after having her for 3 days I found out she had an infection, but I was fortunate enough to get her some med. and she got healthy and got ok.

I had her about 9 months.... Her name was Apple-- (you can see her in the background in Rain's picture that I sent) The infection came back and we got more meds. but they didn't help. She must have always had some of the infec. in her from when she was a baby and just never got rid of it :( She died at only 9 mon old--way too young for her to die--she still had so much life in her--she was so sweet and free spirited.

But, I think they usually live around 5-10 yrs at the most if they are well cared for and don't get sick or anything. Nine years is a really good age for one--her duck must have been real healthy all its life...
