What software do you need to make a video?

I want to make a music video with a slide show of photos I've seen several, there was one Kay did that played "Sweet Child Of Mine" to a photo slideshow of Kiara. What software is required for this? Whatever it is, I'm sure I don't have it, but, heck I'd love to try to make one. Is there any "freeware" that I can download to achieve this? Thanks in advance :)

For all my videos I use windows movie maker. If you have windows you should have this software! :)

I have made videos like the one you are describing before on windows movie maker! :D

Its easy to use and I know quite a lot about it so if you need any help just ask ;)
